Seeing the Detroit Auto Show via drone

Sun, Jan 18 2015

Seeing the Chevrolet display at the Detroit Auto Show is worth doing this year, and not just because of the new Corvette Z06, Volt and Bolt concept. In order to attract the new kids, The Bowtie has gone what the old kids used to call "buck wild" with their show stand at Cobo Hall. A Corvette Z06, Trax, and Colorado are parked along a central aisle, called Mainstreet, at the end of which is a 20-foot-tall, 73-foot long transparent screen lording over the new Volt. Elsewhere are five more 20-foot-tall screens broadcasting nine stories today's Chevrolet wants to tell about its vehicles, from performance to belief in the power of play to its 4G LTE-equipped OnStar telematics service. Then there are the social media and virtual reality safety installations, the community presentations and more. Chevrolet flew a drone through the stand to show off what it's doing, which is has replaced eye-level video as the next best thing to being there. You can check it out in the video above.

12 new cars that will never go out of style

Tue, Nov 23 2021

Some cars never go out of style. It’s rare, but it happens. They get old. They get depreciated. But they never stop looking cool.  Some might call them modern or instant classics. Within a few years theyÂ’re no longer the latest and greatest, no longer the flavor of the month, but they remain special. Eternally special. Timeless.  These cars arenÂ’t necessarily going to be worth a fortune someday. However, some may not depreciate as rapidly or as far as other models. But thatÂ’s not what weÂ’re talking about here. These are the cars that enthusiasts will always find desirable from the curbside. TheyÂ’re the cars you end up shopping on eBay late at night 10 years later because you canÂ’t get them out of your head. TheyÂ’re the cars that will forever excite you when you spot a clean one in traffic or in a parking lot.  There are plenty of recent examples over the past couple of decades that could count as instant design classics. But then we got to thinking, what 2021 models will be forever cool to stare at? Which new cars and trucks on sale today will we be shopping on eBay late at night in the 2030s? We kept supercars and other ultra-expensive cars off the list to keep things within the realm of attainability, and ended up with 12 total cars. Lexus LC WeÂ’re not applying a numerical ranking to any of the cars on this list, but if we were, the Lexus LC would be No. 1. There isnÂ’t another car design out there that can stir our emotions the way an LC can when itÂ’s just standing still. This car is a concept design come true in the most beautiful of ways, and itÂ’s a shoo-in winner for Concours events decades into the future. All of this heaping praise, and we havenÂ’t even gotten to the LC 500Â’s intoxicating 5.0-liter V8. It doesnÂ’t win drag races. It wonÂ’t be the fastest around the track against any similarly-priced competition. But none of that matters. ItÂ’s quite possibly the best car you can buy new, and that says it all when it comes to the LC. Chevrolet Corvette It might not be the stunner that the Lexus LC is, but the new C8 Corvette is and will always be a special vehicle. ItÂ’s the first mid-engine Corvette, which instantly cements it into an automotive hall of fame section of sorts. All of the performance stats and specs are there to back up its supercar-like looks, and it remains the best performance bargain on sale today.

Since 2010, Chevy Volt has outsold Nissan Leaf by just two units

Tue, Mar 3 2015

The first two plug-in vehicles from major automakers in the US were the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf. Ever since they went on sale to much fanfare in late 2010, we've been tracking the monthly sales with great interest (and, of course, other green vehicle sales as well). After a big initial lead by the Volt – the Volt outsold the Leaf 23,461 to 9,819 in 2012 – the Leaf has been chugging along and outsold the Volt every month since November 2013. We knew that the cumulative totals would soon tip in favor of the Leaf, but for at least one more month, the Volt is going to be able to say its the most popular plug-in vehicle in the US. Overall, for all officially reported sales of the Leaf and the Volt, things are almost exactly tied. Since the vehicles went on sale in the end of 2010 until the end of February 2015, the Volt has sold 74,592 units and the Leaf has sold ... drumroll please ... 74,590 units. For February, Leaf sales totaled 1,198 units, a 17-percent drop from the 1,425 Leafs sold last February. Brendan Jones, Nissan's director of Electric Vehicle Sales and Infrastructure, said in a statement that, "Tough winter weather in several key markets held EV sales back in February. As we head into spring, we look forward to seeing more dealership traffic so shoppers can experience firsthand the benefits of the all-electric Nissan Leaf." Of course, it was cold in the US last February, too, but we're sure that the nasty weather did indeed play a role last month. Things were even worse for the Chevy Volt, which dropped to just 693 copies sold, down 47 percent from the 1,210 sold last year. That's just barely enough for Chevy to keep talking about its plug-in sales leadership, but we expect the message to change once the March numbers come out next month. Related Video:

DESCRIPTION
For the 1969 model year, the SS396 series (138xx VIN sequence) was dropped and the Super Sport became a performance option. In 1969 the SS option could be ordered on the 300 Deluxe 2-dr Sport Coupe, the Malibu 2-dr Sport Coupe (13637), as well as the convertible, and the El Camino. The SS 396 equipment package included a choice of Turbo-Jet 396 V8 with either 325, 350, or 375 (solid lifter) horsepower. In addition, the package included these extra features; power disc brakes, 7" wide sport-styled wheels, SS emblems trimmed the exterior front & rear, and inside on the dash and doors, twin-domed hood and beefed up full coil suspension complimenting the look and ride quality!

Finished approximately 5 years ago this Chevelle was the recipient of a complete frame off restoration!! Every nut and bolt and everything attached to the car was removed, restored or replaced and then reassembled into the show piece you see here. The owner responsible for the restoration sadly passed away suddenly as the car was in its final stages of the restoration. A long time friend happened to own a Chevrolet dealership in the south and purchased the car from the widow. The final 5 percent of the restoration was performed at his Chevrolet Dealership. After its restoration it was placed on display in the showroom and was used sparingly by the dealerships owner in parades and to promote his company at car shows and public events. Recently acquired by our staff, we are pleased to present this fantastic car to the public, and offer the opportunity to own such a wonderfully detailed and restored Chevelle Super Sport to the astute collector and investor!

This beautifully Frame-Off, Nut and Bolt, Restored 1969 Chevelle SS396 is finished in Fathom Green with Black vinyl interior. Fathom Green is a Dark metallic color almost looking black! A rare color and sought after today. Features include 396Ci Big Block, 4 Speed Manual Transmission, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Bucket Seats, Center Console, Full Super Sport Trim, 12 Bolt Rear End, F41 Suspension, Styled Steel Wheels, BFGoodrich Radial T/A Raised Letter Tires, Full Size Spare tire, trunk mat, spare tire cover, dual side mirrors, soft ray glass, AM Radio, dual exhaust, powdercoated frame and control arms, correct T3 headlamps, and more!

This was a full restoration of all components. To give you an idea, the following is a short list of new items: wiring, fuel lines, fuel tank, brake lines, brake shoes, brake disc, master cly, brake booster, body bushings, suspension bushings, all weather stripping, paint, exhaust, springs, shocks, seat covers, seat foam, carpet, dash pad, door panels, headliner, sail panels, kick panels, heater controls, ignition, body bolts, bumpers, stainless trim, interior emblems, exterior emblems, correct hoses, correct hose clamps, tires, center caps, lug nuts, brake rotors, radiator, fan shroud, heater core, and so on. The list is seemingly endless, and we haven’t even gotten to the small parts yet!! The engine was also professionally rebuilt along with the rest of the drive train. Some upgrades include a weiand aluminum intake painted to look original, Holley 4bbl carburetor, HEI ignition, high performance suspension bushings, high performance shocks, high performance driveshaft, and chromed swaybars.

The paint is wonderful as is the interior. The body is straight and all panels fit well and look factory. The engine is very strong and the transmission shifts beautifully! The overall build quality and professional craftsmanship of the restoration shine at every corner of this car. The engine bay is highly detailed and looks very correct to 1969. Something seldom seen in restored cars today! All the lights, fluids and so on have been checked and this car is ready to enjoy today. It needs nothing but a new caretaker and proud owner to enjoy her!! Please feel free to ask any questions you may have about the Chevelle. International world wide transportation of the car is available and we are happy to assist in arranging shipping if so needed.
