Mary Barra reportedly confirms GM's electric pickup truck plans
Tue, Apr 30 2019According to Motor Authority, CEO Mary Barra confirmed General Motors' intentions to build an electric pickup truck this week. Whether or not it would be an all-new vehicle is unknown. The news comes not even a week after Ford announced a $500 million investment in electric-vehicle startup Rivian. First, electric powertrains were integrated into cars. Then came the crossovers and the SUVs. Naturally, then, the next wave will be pickup trucks. Ford is set to produce an electric F-150, Rivian has the R1T, and now General Motors has reportedly confirmed its plans to introduce a competitor into the field. The article says the topic was brought up in a recent investor call as part of a brief overview of the automaker's electrification strategy. That's where the details end, however, as there is no indication of a timeline, what GM brand would carry the truck, or whether it would be an entirely new product or an adaptation of a current model. The latter seems most likely, which points to the Chevrolet Silverado or the GMC Sierra as possibilities. Chevrolet has been GM's electrification leader this decade with the Bolt and Volt, so an electric Silverado would align well with that messaging and branding. However, an electric pickup would likely be a pricier premium product, which could align it better with GMC. Autoblog has reached out to GM for comment and will update this space when we get a response. Sat, Jun 20 2015MotorWeek's Retro Review series gives us a nostalgic look back at some of the best sports cars and luxury sedans available in the 1980s and '90s. For its latest clip, the show shifts gears to remember the 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon. Similar to the success of crossovers today, SUVs were tallying big sales and making big money for automakers in the mid-'90s. The Tahoe and Yukon filled slots in the market as steps down from the larger Suburban. These twins weren't wanting for space, though, with plenty of room to haul around a family. MotorWeek came away generally impressed too, and called the models some "of the better riding sport utilities we've ever experienced." This review comes with some jazzy, electric guitar licks to enjoy in the background.
2014 Chevrolet SS makes its live debut
Sat, 16 Feb 2013Chevrolet showed off the new 2014 SS in an airport hangar last night, its first rear-wheel-drive performance sedan in the US since the Impala SS from 1997. We'll have more to say about the SS later today, but this is the sedan that Chevrolet sees as the final piece in restoring its performance credentials. For those of you looking for a manual transmission, however, that wish will go unfulfilled - at least for now: the only two options buyers will have are the color and whether or not they want a sunroof.
We'll work on getting some more angles (in better light) today at Daytona International Speedway, but with fans seeing the car for the first time, we don't hold out much luck of getting a clear shot. So for now, enjoy the high-res gallery above.
