1969 Chevelle Ss396 375hp L78-real L78 on 2040-cars
Elmira, New York, United States
Ok I had to re-list the item as there was a glitch in Ebays system, so the main picture wasn't showing--I have been told that this is a true L78 Car--I have the #'s Matching block that will be included in the sale-It has the correct Vin stamped along with the correct Suffix Code JD and has the Hi-perf stamp on it-See the photo--I do not have a build sheet or protecto plate--what I have is the block--The car currently has a rebuilt 396-325HP motor from a 66 Chevelle in it--The original block is good and is ready to be built and has no cracks. It is a true Lemans blue car with paint code of 71B-Obviously it was a vinyl top car-The guy I got it from did not like the vinyl top--I personally love them and had planned on putting the correct vinyl top back on it--It is a 4speed car. It was a frame off resto before I purchased the car-The previous owner did the resto-I believe it to be a nut and bolt resto-It was done sometime in the last couple years-So all the chrome trim and body panels are excellent-There is one tiny chip on the car-its about the size of a pen head maybe a little bigger-I think one of my kids did it in the garage--The interior is brand new-Everything works as it should but does need the factory radio as that's the only thing missing-The cars undercarriage is very nice-Its a little dusty. The car has been just sitting in my garage under a cover-It runs fantastic-It drives down the road straight and true with no rattles or noises. It is very quiet-It has the stock manifolds and is very quiet mufflers--Close to stock I would say-It has the correct 14" SS wheels and I was told they are the original wheels that have been restored and have the correct date codes-I had it appraised and it will come with the car--It appraised at 35k without the original block-I had it done before I was able to obtain the original block for the car-The guy I purchased the car from had the original block and I thought it was included when I bought the car-long story long-he decided he had to get extra money for the block-and basically held it for ransom and I had no choice but to pay the ransom for the block-and it wasn't cheap-Yeah I know what your thinking-I got screwed !My thoughts exactly.-But I had to have the block-Its what makes the car-It proves it to be a true L78 car-But frankly who in their right mind wouldn't want the block-Its an L78!!!!! SO needless to say I gave him the money for the block and it is now INCLUDED IN THE SALE!!!!-With all that being said I am still in contact with the previous owner of the car--and he's actually a very nice guy-and loves muscle cars as much as me-He says he has lots of photos of the car during the resto and before-I have never seen them-But I will put the new owner in contact with him if you would like -he also knows more of the history of the car-I do have a standing offer on the car-Its a good offer but I really never intended on selling the car-So I figured I would try on e-bay and if it doesn't sell here I will sell it to him-We are now selling it as my wife and I have decided to install an inground pool at my house to the tune of over 50K so I need to come up with some cash-The car will be sold with NY registration in my name and is being sold as-is where is-I love the car but my kids happiness is way more important to me than my car--I have quite a few cars-mostly Corvettes-This is the nicest car out of all of them-and for me its just too nice and Im afraid to even drive it-My goal when I bought it was to rebuild that L78 motor and wrap it in plastic-its too valuable to risk blowing it up-and then someday sell it to help pay for the kids college-But like I said I know what kind of happiness that a pool will give my kids and to me that's priceless-So if your interested in purchasing a piece of Chevy history here is your chance.-And its being priced at what a 325Hp car would sell for-As it really needs to be sold to help pay for the pool!Feel free to come and inspect the car-or ask any question you may have-I will try and answer them the best I can-I had to relist this car so this is the new listing--I had a lot of e-mails on the car from some really nice and knowledable people and I have had a few haters e-mail me on the car telling me its a clone and blah blah blah--This is what I know and what I was told--I am no Chevelle expert but I am listing it with the facts I have in front of me and what I was told--You be the judge--If you don't like it --then don't bid on it and don't buy it-that simple-I love the car and think its a great car-and I think it speaks for itself--I encourage you to come and view the car and judge it for yourself--

Ford, Toyota clean up in Best Car For The Money Awards
Fri, 22 Feb 2013The U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards picks winners by looking at the average transaction price, five-year total cost of ownership, the regard a car has from the automotive press, reliability figures from J.D. Power and Associates and safety data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The result, according to the magazine, is "the best combination of critical acclaim and long-term value."
Ford nabbed six of the 21 categories that received awards this year, the Focus, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Taurus, Escape and Edge getting trophies. Toyota and its Lexus and Scion sub-brands took another five, the Tacoma and Tundra owning the two categories given to pickup trucks. The other ten awards were split between Honda with three, Buick with two, and one each for Subaru, BMW, Hyundai, Chevrolet and Mazda.

Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check
Fri, 01 Mar 2013Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. See for yourself in our image gallery above.
GM recalling 250,000 SUVs over door electronics
Mon, 20 Aug 2012After a door-fire investigation that dates back to February, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially announced a recall today that affects around 250,000 General Motors SUVs for a faulty driver's door module. The recall applies to the Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7X from the 2006 and 2007 model years, as well as the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL for vehicles sold and/or registered in the Snow Belt.
Road salt use in these midwestern and northern states can lead to corrosion of the driver's door module on these GMT360 and GMT370 vehicles, which allows water to come in contact with the circuit board. If shorted out, the vehicle's power door locks and power windows will not work, and could possibly lead to overheating and, in some circumstances, a fire. No official word on how many total vehicles caught on fire, but back in June, 28 fires had been reported to the government agency. A fix for the problem is still being worked out, but all affected vehicle owners will be notified by GM.
