1969 Chevelle SS396

4 Speed

Monaco Orange Code 72

First, I am a licensed, insured and bonded Michigan dealer.  I have owned a dealership in Michigan since 1988.  I am not a classic car dealer, but do love classic cars in general.  When I take them on trade I generally enjoy them for a while, decorate my showroom with them, and sell them…several here on eBay over the years.  I took this and two other cars in on trade last year from the same person.  With this car which he owned since 1989, I took his 1960 Impala Bubble top and his 1970 Big Block Convertible Pontiac Lemans Sport Black on Black.   I will be offering these for sale here on eBay as well over the next few weeks.

Available for sale is my 72 Color Code, Monaco/Hugger Orange 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 with a 4 Speed.  I will try to spare you the sales pitch as this car shouldn’t need one.  What I will try to do is give you as much information as I can is a short to the point description

So, in a nutshell.

  1.  Based on information from ChevelleStuff.net, 1969 this being Monaco Orange Code 72, this is a verified 396SS Chevelle.

  2. The car still is has a NOM 1968 396 L34 350hp(more for sure now) Engine (T0418EF Stamping) with 4 Speed M21 Transmission (3925660 Casting #).

  3. Engine runs very strong and was built to go fast.  There is evidence as you will see in the pictures the car was drag raced at some point in its life per the driveshaft loops.  Front up top you couldn’t tell.

  4. Last time car was driven was in 2004 before I took possession.  Still has 2004 Michigan plates on it.  I have driven the car in a recent local 700 car cruise night.  Run, shifts and stops as it should.

  5. The car was repainted the original color in 1997 and is the paint on the car now.  The rear quarters have been patched very well.  Pictures of trunk drops will show nice.  The inner and our rockers are original and rust free.  The doors look like they had some glass put in the lower corners .  No bubbling or popping.  Does have a couple small cracks as you can see in pictures.  There’re small but I want you to know about them.

  6. Exterior body looks beautiful and straight.  Doors shut perfectly with a nice quiet solid thump.  Body lines are nice around.  I have not buffed this car.  You see the finish after I washed it.  I can tell is was buffed and waxed a lot as there are a two faint thin paint areas from buffing this single stage paint.  I tried to get them in pictures but it won’t show in pictures.   Like I said, faint.  You could walk around the car for a week and probably not notice them but I want full disclosure and no surprises.

  7. The underside is solid but has had a couple small patches put in.  Small like two inches.   It looks like the center tunnel has been cut for transmission fitting too.  Trunk floor, rockers, frame rails are all solid.  The pictures shows the underside as I received it.  No aerosol overhaul.  What you see is what you get.  Nothing hidden.

  8. Interior is great in near new condition with exception of small crack in dash on passenger side.  Carpet, seats, door panels, head liner and package tray.  All very nice condition!

  9. Glass is original and clear.  Rear window has several scratches in it.  Operators are all in working order.

  10.  Lights and gauges work.

  11.  Trim, chrome stainless is all in very nice condition.

If I was buying this car here on Ebay, this is the information I would want.  This combined with the pictures will give you, should be everything you need to make an informed decision.  It’s a real SS396 Chevelle in Orange.  If you consider everything I have listed here, all the pictures shown, and the fact I have maintained a 100% Feedback for everything I have sold here on Ebay, you can make a safe bet your expectations will be met or exceeded when you win and take possession of your new 69 SS396.

As you would expect, it is a car that is over 40 years old.  It’s not perfect but looks and drives great, with a pretty great pedigree.  It is sold as is, without any warranty.  You as the buyer are responsible for shipping arrangements and the cost that goes along with it.  I do have a few contacts in that arena or Uship is a good source to get a competitive shipping price.  Please have all your finances in order before you bid, at least before the auction ends as a listing does take a fair amount of time and cost to put together.  I haven’t ever run into any problems here, and really don’t want to start a trend.  Be a stand up person as I will be.  Terms of the sale include a $1000.00 deposit made via PayPal, cash and bank wire at auction end.  I am a dealer and have a credit card processing machine, so that is an option also.  The balance is expected within 7 days of auction end but sooner would be appreciated.  This is in cash or wire transfer.  In this listing I have been very upfront and honest and expect nothing but the same in return.  I appreciate your time reading my listing.     My reserve based on the selling price of some clone SS396’s, is low so there should be a new owner at the end of the auction.  My ultimate goal is to sell the car.  The car is available for sale at my dealership, so I do reserve the right to end the auction early if the car sells prior to auction end.  My name is Kurt.  Enjoy the auction.  If you have questions, please feel free to give me a call directly at 231 578-2887.  If you would like to see the car, it is located at my dealership in Whitehall Michigan.  And, yes, that is my short version.  Have a good oneJ

General Motors Recalls Nearly 780,000 Cars To Fix Deadly Problem

Thu, Feb 13 2014

General Motors is recalling nearly 780,000 compact cars in North America because the engines can shut down unexpectedly and cause crashes. The company says six people have been killed in crashes related to the problem. The recall affects Chevrolet Cobalts and Pontiac G5s from the 2005 through 2007 model years. U.S. safety regulators say the weight of the key ring and rough roads can move the ignition switch out of the run position, cutting the engine and electricity. If that happens, air bags may not work. GM says there have been 22 crashes from the problem. All happened at high speeds. Dealers will replace the ignition switch for free. GM says owners should remove nonessential items from key rings until the problem is fixed. How long will the 'golden age' of performance last?

Sat, Mar 26 2016

High-powered sports and luxury cars were everywhere at the New York Auto Show, prompting the obvious question for enthusiasts: How long will this golden age of performance last? Industry leaders have some time before regulations elevate the Corporate Average Fuel Economy level in 2025. Even then, they expect cars rippling with power to survive in some form. "Is it the end of an era," I don't think so," said Ola Kallenius, Daimler AG board member for Mercedes-Benz cars marketing and sales. "That performance element of individual mobility I don't think will ever go away." Kallenius, who oversaw the company's AMG division from 2010-2013, expects it to continue to grow. Last year, AMG sold a record 68,875 units around the world, an increase of 44.6 percent over 2014, with strong growth in the US, China, and Germany. Still, there's always the potential for gas to spike, and pending fuel economy regulations are looming. That could lead AMG to add electrification to its products, Kallenius said, pointing to the electric SLS as a test case. Chevy is also thinking ahead, said Al Oppenheiser, chief engineer of the Camaro. He wouldn't bite when asked about electrification for the Camaro (he did say "never say never"), but admitted in 2025 "it's going to be pretty tough to sell V8s." For now, things are rosy for muscle cars, and Chevy confidently showcased the 640-hp Camaro ZL1 in coupe and convertible form in New York. "I think that this is truly the golden age of performance," Oppenheiser said. It's hard to disagree. News & Analysis News: The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF was a show-stopper in New York. Analysis: There was a palpable energy when this RF — for Retractable Fastback — was revealed the night before the show at a trendy off-site venue near the Hudson River. Even as a parade of SUVs and flashy luxury cars rolled out the rest of the week, the Miata remained a hot topic. The Retractable Fastback is really a clever targa top, with part of the roof stowing behind the seats, adding about 100 pounds compared to the standard convertible. It makes the car more practical and arguably more attractive. The RF continues Mazda's tradition of selling the Miata with a hardtop variant. The first and second generations offered a detachable one, and a power retractable hardtop (a $1,700 option) was available on third-gen models. Judging by its reception in New York, the RF could prove to be even more popular than its predecessors.

Junkyard Gem: 1985 Chevrolet Sprint

Thu, May 21 2020

For in the 1985 model year, General Motors began selling Chevrolet-badged Suzuki Cultus hatchbacks in California. Sales of the cheap three-cylinder econobox in the rest of North America followed soon after (with the Canadian version known as the Pontiac Firefly), and did pretty well considering the crash in gasoline prices during the middle 1980s. Starting in 1988, the facelifted Sprint became the Geo (and, later on, Chevrolet) Metro. Here's one of the very first Cultuses sold on our shores, found in a San Francisco Bay Area car graveyard. Amazingly, the primitive rear-wheel-drive Chevrolet Chevette remained available all the way through 1987, competing with the thriftier front-wheel-drive Sprint in the same showrooms. For 1988, Pontiac started selling a rebadged Daewoo LeMans, so the Sprint/Metro never lacked for intra-corporate competition. Inside, you'll find the same stuff most mid-1980s Japanese econoboxes got: tough cloth upholstery and long-wearing hard plastics. Suzuki quality in 1985 wasn't quite up to Honda or Toyota levels, but you weren't paying Honda or Toyota prices for the Sprint. MSRP on this car started at $4,949, or about $12,000 in 2020 dollars. The cheapest possible 1985 Chevette cost $5,340, while a new no-frills Ford Escort would set you back $5,620. Subaru, however, could have put you in a punitively unappointed base-model Leone hatchback for just 40 bucks more than the Sprint that year. I think I'd have sprung the extra for a $5,348 Toyota Tercel, a $5,195 Mazda GLC, or— best cheap-commuter deal of all that year— the $5,399 Honda Civic 1300 hatchback. I was 19 years old and driving a Competition Orange 1968 Mercury Cyclone that year, and I recall feeling pity for Chevy Sprint drivers, new-car smell or not. Still, these weren't bad cars for the price, though a Sprint with an automatic transmission was a real character-builder. Got three cylinders and uses 'em all! 48 horsepower from this hemi-headed SOHC 1-liter. The Turbo Sprint — yes, such a car existed — had a howling 70 horsepower. The hood-latch release is a rectangular button that resembles a badge. 1985 Chevy Sprint Commercial The highest-mileage, lowest-priced car you can buy. 1985 holden barina commercial The Australian-market version was the Holden Barina, and the TV ads featured the Road Runner. 1983 SUZUKI CULTUS Ad In its homeland, this car got screaming guitars and a drive through New York City for its TV commercials.
