Up for purchase is my 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle Convertible.  The previous owner hard started to turn it into an SS clone with all the badges, just didn't get to the engine yet.  It has just over 121,000 miles (since the old odometer has just the 5 digits it reads 21,000).  It is a 307 engine in it originally that has been cleaned up on the outside with some fresh paint and new gaskets.  It smokes under heavy throttle so it wouldn't hurt for either a peak inside or an upgrade to a more common 350 or bigger.  It has a 3-speed automatic on the floor, that too has been cleaned up with some fresh paint and new seals.  It is an absolute blast to drive down the road with the top down.  The top is brand new with the glass rear window.

It has a 10-bolt posi rear-end with new 3.55 gears.  Brand new Dual Flowmaster exhausts, great photos of them.  BF Goodrich Radial T/As, 235/60R15 on the front and 255/60R15 on the rear all sitting on American Racing rims.  It has some rust, check out all the photos.  The paint has some flaws but still looks great with the black stripes.  The interior is all black with the SS emblems inside as well as the outside.  The bucket seats have a nice fit as originals do.  The radio is an after market but new.  Additional new parts include: front sway bar, front shocks, rear coil springs, rear shocks, upper and lower rear control arms, fuel tank/sending unit/straps, heater core, rear quarter windows, window washer pump/motor/blades, balancer, Transmission lines, and a general tune up.  I'm sure I missed a few little things but I kept most of the receipts for all the work I had done.  I also have the manuals for the car too.

This is a just a really fun car to drive.  It does need work, it is certainly not perfect.  That said it still could be restored to a show quality.  I want to keep it but I must sell it.  I have a buy it now price but am taking best offers too.  Please ask me questions or schedule time to look at it before you submit your offer.

General Motors Recalls Nearly 780,000 Cars To Fix Deadly Problem

Thu, Feb 13 2014

General Motors is recalling nearly 780,000 compact cars in North America because the engines can shut down unexpectedly and cause crashes. The company says six people have been killed in crashes related to the problem. The recall affects Chevrolet Cobalts and Pontiac G5s from the 2005 through 2007 model years. U.S. safety regulators say the weight of the key ring and rough roads can move the ignition switch out of the run position, cutting the engine and electricity. If that happens, air bags may not work. GM says there have been 22 crashes from the problem. All happened at high speeds. Dealers will replace the ignition switch for free. GM says owners should remove nonessential items from key rings until the problem is fixed. EcoCar2 is on the hunt for a better, cleaner Chevy Malibu [w/video]

Thu, Jun 12 2014

The students spent three years transforming an ordinary Chevy Malibu into a revolutionary vehicle. Not far from the building where General Motors once invented the Chevy Volt, a dozen or so college students are standing on the blacktop alongside a test track, watching a professional driver push the limits of a plug-in hybrid car they've built that's far more radical. These students, from Colorado State University, have spent the past three years transforming an ordinary Chevy Malibu into a revolutionary vehicle. At first glance, it still looks like a regular sedan. But under the hood, they've installed a hybrid powertrain that contains both hydrogen and electric power sources. Even by the standards of the Department of Energy competition they're participating in, it's an outlier. That's exactly what they had in mind. "We didn't want to come here and tell them how to build a better Volt," said Tom Bradley, faculty adviser for the Colorado State team. "They already know how to do that. We can tell them how to think about these possibilities in a whole new way." After three years of work, it all comes down to this. The Colorado State team was one of 15 that came to GM's Milford Proving Grounds last week for the final stretch of the EcoCar2 competition, which challenges regular college students who have no automotive experience to do nothing less than reinvent the American car. The teams have come from across North America, and include schools like Ohio State and Virginia Tech that have a long history of participating in similar competitions, and schools like the University of Washington and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University that are here for the first time. After three years of work, it all comes down to this. The teams have operated 24 hours a day for almost two weeks here at the Proving Grounds, running a gamut of tests that include a 310-point safety inspection, emissions and energy-consumption tests and road tests, in which professional GM drivers ensure they're road worthy. The winning team will be announced tonight in Washington D.C. Revolutionary cars, ordinary package While other green-car competitions encourage extreme designs, this one comes with a somewhat constraining twist: Yes, students must improve fuel economy and reduce emissions, but in the end, they still have to have a car that would appeal to mainstream customers. In practical terms, that means they must keep conveniences like air conditioning and trunk space.

Consumer Reports declares most and least loved cars [w/video]

Wed, Dec 3 2014

Consumer Reports is crunching the numbers from its annual owner-satisfaction survey, and part of that process is finding out how attached drivers are to their cars. CR simply asks readers of models up to three years old if they would buy the same vehicle again in light of their entire ownership experience, and tallies the results. After looking at the responses for about 350,000 vehicles, it turns out that people really love a certain California-built, electrically powered luxury sedan. That's right, this year's the overall winner was the Tesla Model S with a whopping 98 percent of owners saying they would purchase another one (the Model S also won this award last year, with 99 percent satisfaction). The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray came in a close second with 95 percent of drivers hoping to park another one in their garage. A few models weren't quite so favored, though. The Nissan Versa Sedan was the least loved model among its owners; a mere 42 percent said that they would purchase another. The aging Jeep Compass didn't do much better, with just 43 percent of drivers willing to buy the softroader again. On average, about 70 percent of owners say they would buy their car again, and only four cars ranked below 50 percent in CR's findings. Check out the video above to see some of the winners and losers in a few of CR's categories. If you're a subscriber, you can check out the full list on its website.
