1968 Chevrolet Chevelle Ss 454 Clone Pro Touring - Professionally Built on 2040-cars
Cape Coral, Florida, United States
1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS clone.
This is a very high end professionally built car. The car was completely torn down to the very last nut and bolt in 2009 and restored on a rotisserie. At this point, there is just over $73,000 in REAL cash money in this build. That doesn't included the cost of the car to start with. 454 that is basically a crate motor with under 10,000 miles on it. We estimate about 400 horsepower, give or take of course. MSD ignition system. Aluminum radiator. Brand new professionally built 700r4 transmission, with the additional electric lock out switch that acts as somewhat of an extra highway gear. 2300 Corvette stall converter that will allow the car to chirp the tires in three gears without even trying. The car really gets up and gets out of it's own way in a hurry...but is really well mannered on the highway. 12 bolt posi rear. Four wheel disc brakes Airpod Air Ride system all the way around, with three set positions and it is fully adjustable. The car will just about lay frame (it lays on the sway bar). See the pictures. There is well over $6,000 in just this system alone, maybe $7,000. All tubular A-arms and suspension parts. All the chrome and brightwork is new. All the lights, turn signals, etc. work. Brand new Summitomo tires with under 50 miles on them on beautiful 18" chrome 5 spoke rims. The tires were just under $1,000. The interior was all brand new at the build. If you are a taller driver, I will included a like new pair of Mercedes black electric bucket seats that the owner had in the car before. He was 6'3" tall and found that he needed the seat to be lower and go farther back. Those seats alone were $1,000 for the pair. The frame is completely boxed, and it was done by a professional chassis builder. The quality is unmatched. It was built to handle up to 1,000 horsepower. The entire bottom side of the car is painted with the same paint used on the top of the car. See the pictures: it's stunning. Headers with 3" exhaust with newer Magnaflow mufflers, and it runs all the way to the back. Dual electric fans. All billet pump and pulley system on the front of the motor. There IS an AC pump, but the car does NOT have AC. However, the shop that built the car will install it for you for $2,000, and my husband will facilitate that work for the buyer if he so chooses before the car is picked up. Dual electric fans. Even in the hot 90+ degree Florida summer days, the car never ever gets hot. Power steering. Power brakes. New CD stereo with remote. Unit is mounted and hidden in the glove box. Engine compartment is painted just like the top of the car as well. Stunning. See the pictures. Electric fuel pump. Car starts right up every time. Trunk mounted Red Top battery AND an manual power shut off in trunk as well. See the pictures. Runs on pump gas. Lots of new glass at build. At night, it's hard to tell there is glass. It's THAT clear. Paintwork was done by probably the best painter in all of South Florida. It is a late model Mercedes silver with a late model Mazda (I think) electric blue. The pinstripes between the two colors are tape, thus easily changed if the owner wants to. Doors open and close like a new car. So does the trunk. Car is rust free and excellent. Includes a custom made $200 California cover. Car is stored indoors right next to grandpas mini-van. ...and the list goes on and on and on. Known issues with car: 1) Speedometer does not work since the 700r4 trans install and we have not looked into why 2) Dash clock does not work. 3) The aftermarket horn could be louder. There may be and adjustment for that. 4) There is a tiny tiny bit of paint bubbling at the very rear corner of the passenger door. I saw it for the first time yesterday when it was up on a lift and I could see under the lip eye-to-eye. If I didn't mention, you would probably never see it. 5) Headers are a little banged up on the bottom due to forgetting to raise the air ride system up from the lowest setting before moving the car. This is a high-end, no excuses, pro touring car that you could easily fly in and drive home without worry. We are 20 minutes from RSW International Airport, and someone will pick you up if you would like to do that. If you are an out of state or out of the country buyer, I encourage you to come see it OR hire an inspector to look the car over if need be. There is nothing to hide, and we have no problem with a qualified professional inspection. If you need a recommendation, let me know and we will get you one. My husband has experience with transport and international exporting, and he would be happy to help with those details if the buyer needs (at buyers expense, of course). I do not own this car. I am just listing it for the owners. If you have any other questions, just email me your question and/or phone number and I will have them call you back with the answers. Paypal will NOT be accepted for this transaction. CASH or wire transfer is preferred. Here is a short video of the car: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOXEy84kWGw |

Smaller Cars Endure Big Problems On Crash Test
Wed, Jan 22 2014In a crash test of 11 of the smallest cars on the market, only one vehicle received an acceptable rating. The rest received marginal or poor ratings in the study, providing evidence that supports a widely held notion that smaller cars are among the least safe on the road. No other vehicle group has performed as poorly on a new crash test than these mini cars, says the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the nonprofit group that conducted the testing. The latest results of which were released Wednesday. The Chevrolet Spark was the only car earning an overall "acceptable" rating on the small-front overlap test, and even that vehicle had its shortcomings, IIHS said. "Small lightweight vehicles have an inherent safety disadvantage," said Joe Nolan, the senior vice president for vehicle research at IIHS. "That's why it's even more important to choose one with the best occupant protection. Unfortunately, as a group, minicars aren't performing as well as other vehicle categories." The Mazda2, Kia Rio, Toyota Yaris and certain Ford Fiesta models all received "marginal" overall grades on the test, while the Mitsubishi Mirage, Nissan Versa, Toyota Prius C, Hyundai Accent, Fiat 500 and Honda Fit all earned "poor" ratings. Results from these sub-compact cars fare much worse than vehicles sized just a little bit bigger, IIHS said. Among 17 cars evaluated in the small category, five earned "good" ratings and five more earned "acceptable." Only introduced a year ago, the small-front overlap test has quickly become a key indicator of differences in automotive safety. IIHS introduced it as a way to replicate what happens when the front corner of a vehicle collides with a tree or utility pole at 40 miles per hour. In the real world, these sorts of accidents are more dangerous than others, in part because they bypass the front-end crush zones on most cars. Without a grade of acceptable or better, they cannot qualify for the IIHS' overall Top Safety Pick+ honor, given annually to the safest models on the market.
2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible gives us a couple of looks
Sat, 02 Mar 2013Put away your pixel paintbrushes, kids. Pack up your Photoshop. This is the real-deal 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible in its first official images. The droptop Chevrolet will roll into the bright lights of the Palexpo exhibition at next week's Geneva Motor Show, a four-wheeled statement of intent that General Motors is serious about taking its Corvette franchise global.
Chevy isn't providing anything in the way of further details with these two shots, but we've learned at least a couple of things about the car shown here. First off, the example seen in these images is fitted with the optional Z51 Performance Package - something that isn't immediately evident because there's no sign of the coupe model's prominent ductwork on its rear haunches. In order to accommodate the power folding hard tonneau cover, the vents that feed the transmission and differential coolers have been relocated to the underside of the car. The dark paint color on this example also does a good job of muting the contrasting black front fender vents and hood opening - Z51-spec design details that have proven to be somewhat controversial.
One other thing to note: These two shots also display the Stingray wearing different alloy wheels than the split five-spoke design shown at the hardtop's Detroit Auto Show unveiling in January. The simpler, thin five-spoke wheels should do a good job of showing off the Z51's upgraded brakes, and they'll be optional on the coupe as well.
Meet Alex Archer, the engineer behind GM's power-sliding center console
Sat, Feb 15 2020In 2009, a GM manager complained to a 59-year-old GM technician about the hassle of retrieving items from a pickup truck bed after driving shifted the cargo. In two days, the tech had come up with the ideas that, ten years later, would debut as the MultiPro tailgate. The engineering teams kept the tailgate secret in part by hiding mock-ups in a locked storage closet in GM's Vehicle Engineering Center in Warren Michigan for two years. A piece in the Detroit Free Press reveals that another storage closet in Warren would play the same role in a different cloak-and-dagger operation, this time for the power-sliding center console in GM's new full-sized SUVs. During a meeting in early 2017, bosses gave the job of the console's creation to 24-year-old design release engineer Alex Archer, just two years out of Stanford University with a degree in engineering and product design. This time, the catalyst for the feature was an internal GM think tank called co:lab, where employees suggest ideas. Execs gave Archer the task because "They needed someone willing to ask a lot of questions," her 36-month mandate to produce a six-way console that could be a standard cubby or a gaping maw able to swallow four gallon jugs or hide a secret compartment. Clearly, she succeeded. It took Archer and the team nine months to devise a prototype, another six months to get the green light for production. As with the tailgate, the team working on the console grew to include designers, production engineers, and suppliers. Archer, now 26, shepherded the process, and her name is on the patent. "It took a ton of people, I'm just somebody who stuck with it the whole time," she said. GM like her work well enough to produce the "Day in the Life" segment above, five months before the world would hear about the console. Archer's path to engineering was as unlikely as getting the job for the console. She had entered Stanford with plans to be a doctor. But an innovation class during her freshman year, and a sophomore summer spent helping her grandfather rebuild a 1937 MG engine recharted her course. Her grandfather told her, "You know, you could be an engineer for a car company." Consumer reaction to Archer's work won't be far off, the SUVs slated to hit dealerships soon. Meanwhile, she's busy on something that could be just as intense as the console: Restoring a 1955 Packard Clipper in her garage. Head to Freep to check out the story of Archer and the console.
