1968 Chevrolet Chevelle Ss, 4 Speed - Freshly Restored - A True 138 Ss! on 2040-cars
Woodstock, Illinois, United States
This great, classic Butternut Yellow with Black Vinyl car has had a TOTAL FRAME-OFF RESTORATION, on a RUST FREE car. I am only the third owner, and have the car's complete history.
The original owner blew up the factory 396 in 1972. He began disassembling the car and purchased NOS parts to restore it. 40 years later, the second owner heard about it; all this time it had been nicely stored in a clean, heated building. Most trim and parts were kept wrapped, in their boxes. The first owner never wanted to sell until just a few years ago, when the second owner bought it, in boxes! At that time, he had the underside and frame blasted and sent the tub to the body shop. The original floors and trunk were all 100% free of any rust! The frame and underside were painted chassis black; the body Butternut Yellow (original color), base coat and clear coat. It was put together at a restoration shop. There are very few aftermarket trim pieces; all the stainless trim, grill and emblems were excellent. The interior is redone with Legendary seat covers, door panels, head liner, and carpet. Dash and gauges are original and excellent also. The motor is not numbers matching. It is actually a 454, approximately 450 hp, and runs on pump gas. It starts and idles well. I'm sure it's better than the original 375 hp! It has an Edelbrock 1406 carburetor, which will run smoother, and get better mileage. The Muncie M21 transmission is rebuilt. Everything has been replaced or rebuilt, just as you would expect on a frame-off restoration (brakes, lines, E brake, fuel lines, tank, sender, shocks, complete front end, exhaust, rear end (original 12 bolt posi). The car came with two sets of hub caps; not sure which was original, but buyer gets them both. All is new under the hood as well: radiator, wiper motor, brake booster, heater, fan, and core. The wiring is original, and in excellent condition. As you guys know, it's not yours until you work on it, so here's your list: as far as I can tell, the only minor discrepancies are no rolling tach, original AM radio is unplugged (not sure why), no speaker (probably good news!), need to fix wiper switch, dome light switch, fuel gauge, and clock (but it will run without any of these things!). The second owner had this nice car put together right, spent plenty on it, and planned on keeping it a long time. That was my plan too; I just bought it last fall. However, with 3 kids in college, a wedding to pay for, and helping the oldest get established in a house, I am sadly letting go of this car without ever putting it on the road! I have the original 1972 title, and it hasn't been re-titled since. I also have a new car cover for it. There are ONLY 4,179 miles on it! I even have the factory Chevelle Assembly Manual, and photos taken during the restoration process. Wish I could keep it....but the good news is, you get a great deal on a great, road ready classic! TERMS: $500 cash or paypal, due within 24 hours of winning bid. Balance in cash or certified check at pickup. QUESTIONS? Through EBay, or text me during the day, or call 5-9pm CDT: 815-245-1108 - Craig NOTE: I also have this vehicle for sale locally, so reserve the right to cancel this listing at any time. Sold as-is, no warranty expressed or implied. |

Autoblog Podcast #327:
Opel's version of the Chevy Bolt will confuse people at Paris Motor Show
Fri, Aug 26 2016Two things are now official. First, Opel will reveal the Ampera-e, or the European version of the Chevrolet Bolt, at the Paris Motor Show in October. Second, General Motors has outdone itself in brand confusion, topping the Bolt/Volt ridiculousness. Opel isn't giving a single-charge range for the Ampera-e but the company is promising a "significantly longer range" than other electric vehicles. The Bolt is estimated to have a 200-mile range on the EPA scale, so whatever the Opel achieves on the European cycle will be done with the same batteries and motor as the Chevy. Opel is also looking to appeal to the auto enthusiasts with other factoids, which are basically just Bolt stats translated into metric. For instance, the Ampera-e will be able to go 0 to 50 kilometers per hour (which is 31 miles per hour to us Americans, but we're talking Europe here) in just 3.2 seconds. And for those looking to stay connected, as many as seven mobile devices can attached to the car's wireless hot spot. GM said in February that the European of the Bolt would be available across the pond next year, so the most recent bit of news isn't shocking. Still, General Motors continues to create confusion between all-electric Bolt and the extended-range plug-in Volt. It's already been reported that the Korean symbol and pronunciation of what is "B" in English is identical to the English "V," meaning that there is no difference between "Bolt" and "Volt" in that country (though there are no plans to sell the Bolt in South Korea as of yet). Now, in Europe, they're taking the name they used to use for the European of the Volt — Ampera — and merely adding an "-e" at the end of it. For those looking to be less confused, take a look at Opel's press release here. NHTSA, IIHS, and 20 automakers to make auto braking standard by 2022
Thu, Mar 17 2016The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and virtually every automaker in the US domestic market have announced a pact to make automatic emergency braking standard by 2022. Here's the full rundown of companies involved: BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo (not to mention the brands that fall under each automaker's respective umbrella). Like we reported yesterday, AEB will be as ubiquitous in the future as traction and stability control are today. But the thing to note here is that this is not a governmental mandate. It's truly an agreement between automakers and the government, a fact that NHTSA claims will lead to widespread adoption three years sooner than a formal rule. That fact in itself should prevent up to 28,000 crashes and 12,000 injuries. The agreement will come into effect in two waves. For the majority of vehicles on the road – those with gross vehicle weights below 8,500 pounds – AEB will need to be standard equipment by September 1, 2022. Vehicles between 8,501 and 10,000 pounds will have an extra three years to offer AEB. "It's an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives," said Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said in an official statement. "It's a win for safety and a win for consumers." Read on for the official press release from NHTSA. Automakers making the commitment are Audi, BMW, FCA US LLC, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Tesla Motors Inc., Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo Car USA.
