1966 Chevelle Ss 396 2door Hardtop. Numbers Matching Drive Train California Car on 2040-cars
Bonner Springs, Kansas, United States
I am offering for sale my 1966 Chevelle Super Sport. This is a California built SS 396 that spent its life in California until I bought it about 8 years ago. It has been stored inside since I have owned it. The Chevelle was stored for a few years under a shed with the rear end exposed to the weather. The rear glass area rusted out along the bottom and leaked into the trunk. I replaced the trunk pan when I first bought it which I show in the pictures and there is rust at the bottom of the left front fender which is cut out and is also pictured. The lower rear quarter needs a patch panel behind the wheel and is also shown. I bought a new panel for between the rear window and trunk but was only planning on using it for the part required to fix the rusted area and the panel is included in the sale.
The motor is the original one for the car and starts and runs good. The transmission has just been resealed at all the linkage seals and the pan gasket and filter has been replaced. The front seal was fine and didn't require any attention. I never found any numbers that would confirm if the transmission is matching to the car. The A/C had been stripped off the car when I acquired it but I have collected about 85% of the parts to put it back on with. The radiator is not the correct one and leaks some too. All four of the wheels shown are the correct '66 A6 6 inch wheels and have very good tires mounted on them. I have the solid front inner fenders but haven't dug them out of storage yet so they aren't pictured. The floors and rockers and frame are rock solid and very nice. The seats were changed at some time and are not the originals but are '66 seats and correct for this car. All the tinted glass is there and in good condition. The SS hood is an original and in good condition. When I bought the car it had a flat hood with all of the SS 396 emblems removed, the holes welded up and the car was repainted. It was supposed to have been a street racer while in California is why it was changed to a Malibu appearance. The TT paint code is for Sandalwood Tan with the 712 Light Fawn simulated leather bucket seat interior with console. The car appeares to have had the gauge dash from the factory but now has the standard floor shift cluster and the knee knocker tach is gone but the original mounting holes are still there. Ask any questions before bidding and I will expect the deposit within 48 hours of the auction close and full payment within 7 days. Shipping will be at the buyers expense and the car will run for loading but is not roadworthy and will need to be trailered. |

GM recalls 8,500 Chevrolet Malibu models for rear suspension glitch
Mon, 04 Feb 2013According to a letter from General Motors to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, flaws in the build process of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu have led to the recall of 8,519 cars. Units built between December 6, 2011 and January 15, 2013 may have been assembled with rear suspension cradles that had insufficient torque applied to certain bolts. That out-of-spec assembly could lead to issues ranging from slight noises to a loss of vehicle control.
The problem was first noticed in December of last year by a GM test fleet driver and eventually tracked back to the improperly torqued bolts on the suspension cradle assembled through July 2012 by a supplier located not too far from the Malibu's Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly Plant. Since an official NHTSA recall notice has not been issued yet, it isn't clear whether or not Detroit-built Malibus were the only ones affected (the 2013 Malibu is also built at GM's Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kansas). Dealers will fix the problem by inspecting vehicles for proper torque specs, retightening if not within specs and, in some cases, perform a rear-wheel alignment.
Some 2012-13 Chevy Volts may not have enough battery coolant
Mon, Jun 23 2014The 2012 and 2013 model year Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in vehicle may have a battery glitch caused by low coolant levels. No recall has been issued and General Motors is taking care of the issue at no cost to drivers. Some of the affected Volts may have lower-than-advisable coolant levels because of some pesky air pockets in the car's cooling circuit. When the coolant levels get too low, the charging system for the battery powering the car's onboard generator (i.e. the Rechargeable Energy Storage System, or the RESS) may be shut down, turning one's Volt into a run-of-the-mill gas-powered car, and a pricey one at that. The Car Connection says GM is advising owners of the '12 and '13 Volts to contact their local Chevy dealer for a free fix. GM representatives didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from AutoblogGreen for more details. We believe this is a separate issue than the one that brought 8,000 Volts back to the dealers for a battery coolant fix, what GM called a "voluntary customer satisfaction effort," a few years ago. General Motors sold 23,094 Chevy Volts last year after selling 23,461 Volts in 2012, so that fix-it list may get fairly lengthy. Check out a GM-Volt.com user thread related to this issue here. *UPDATE: Chevrolet spokesman Randy Fox confirmed in an e-mail to AutoblogGreen that the company issued a service bulletin to dealers that they may need to top off coolant levels on certain Volts because of the issue, and that the vehicle will "return to normal charging operation" once that's done.
2016 Chevy Volt will have more EV range, bigger battery
Tue, Oct 28 2014Meet the new Volt, not the same as the old Volt. That appears to be the story when General Motors introduces the 2016 Chevy Volt at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Today we're getting some more details on the guts of the new plug-in hybrid, and it turns out they're going to be much improved from the current Volt, which first went on sale at the end of 2010. Sure, the first-gen Volt did get some improvements along the way (a slightly larger battery pack, lane departure warnings) but the new Volt – which will go on sale in the second half of 2015 – marks the first time GM has been able to return to the drawing board and really make the improvements that its customers want. That's how Larry Nitz, GM's executive director of vehicle electrification explained it to AutoblogGreen today when explaining the all-new Voltec extended range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrain. "In the Gen 2 is we gave the engine a little more power, a little more torque, a little more displacement, more capability." – Larry Nitz Nitz said that the new Volt will be better in almost every sense: a bigger battery, longer EV-only range, 20 percent better acceleration in the low speed range and higher overall efficiency. This is due, in part, to the Volt's two motors being able to both act as generators and power the car. As we noted this morning, the 2016 Volt will use a larger, 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a version of which is already used in the Chinese-market Cruze. Nitz said that this has a number of benefits, including more power and quieter operation. "Some people would say, why did you make [the first-gen engine] so big. I would say, why did you make it so small?" he said. "It works good, our customers love it, but the reality is that if you go a little bit off and use the car a little harder, you can get the engine to need to operate at a higher speed. In an EV, that's quite noticeable. So, what we did in the Gen 2 is we gave the engine a little more power, a little more torque, a little more displacement, more capability and what it has marginally enabled is not only is it more efficient but it's also quieter." Nitz wouldn't talk about how the new powertrain might affect the two other products that use the Volt's underpinnings – the Cadillac ELR and the Opel Ampera – but if you've got a quieter option, we assume that's something ELR drivers would enjoy. But that's a story for another day.
