I ACQUIRED THE CHEVELLE IN LATE JANUARY AS PART OF A TRADE AND I HAVE DECIDED TO SELL IT TO FUND ANOTHER PROJECT THAT I AM CURRENTLY WORKING ON. THE GUY WHO BUILT IT SAID THAT THE ENGINE IS A 383 CHEVY AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAS BEEN DONE TO THE MOTOR , HE CLAIMED THAT IT HAS LESS THAN 20K MILES ON IT. THE TRANSMISSION IS A POWERGLIDE AND IT IS A COLUMN SHIFT AUTOMATIC, AND THE TURN SIGNAL LEVER IS BROKEN OFF, THE REAR END IS A 12 BOLT NON POSI UNIT WITH 2.73 GEARS. THE BODY HAS SOME RUST HERE AND THERE, BUT IS IN FAIRLY SOLID CONDITION OVERALL, THE PASSENGER DOOR SEEMS LIKE IT IS OFF ALIGNMENT A LITTLE, AND THE FRONT EDGE HAS A SLIGHT TWEAK TO IT, THE DRIVER DOOR SHUTS GOOD, BUT NEEDS THE LOWER SPRING PUT BACK IN. FLOOR PANS HAVE SOME SMALL RUST HOLES AND SOME SURFACE RUST, THE TRUNK IS LOCKED AND I DO NOT HAVE THE KEY. I HAVE PUT A BRIGHT LIGHT IN THERE AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT SOME SMALL RUST SPOTS AND SURFACE RUST AS WELL, BUT FAIRLY SOLID. I HAVE BOUGHT A NEW TRUNK LOCK FOR IT, BUT HAVE NOT CHANGED IT YET. THE CARPET IS RED AND WILL GET YOU BY FOR A DRIVER, AS WELL AS THE BACK SEAT. THE REAR SEAT SHELF IS MISSING, AND THE METAL HAS SOME SURFACE RUST, NOTHING BAD LIKE MOST CHEVELLE'S I HAVE SEEN. THE DOOR PANELS ARE OK BUT COULD BE REPLACED. THE REAR SEAT PANELS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION, AND THE HEADLINER IS VERY NICE AND HAS NO RIPS. THE DASH IS SOLID AND HAS THE FACTORY A/C CONTROLS AND RADIO. ALSO INCLUDED IS A PAIR OF SOLID FENDERS, THE RADIATOR SUPPORT, STEERING WHEEL AND THE ROCKER PANEL MOLDINGS. I HAVE SET A MODEST RESERVE TO PROTECT MY INVESTMENT, AND IF IT DOES NOT REACH THE RESERVE, I WILL JUST PUT IT IN THE BACK OF MY SHOP AND BUILD IT IN A FEW YEARS WHEN I HAVE MORE TIME. Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war
Sun, 30 Dec 2012A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?
2020 Chevy Corvette Stingray vs the world: How it compares on paper
Mon, Jul 22 2019The 2020 Chevy Corvette Stingray in its base form offers an astonishing amount of performance for the money. In fact, so impressive is the car's spec sheet that the Corvette kind of exists in two different competitive sets: one of cars priced similarly, and another with cars of similar performance and reputation. To get a feel for how it handles each of these segments, we've compiled specifications for those two sets of players. You can find the first set below, which looks at cars of roughly the same price point. Following that is a bit of analysis, and then there's a chart of cars with similar performance and reputation. And that chart will also have some analysis. Though final pricing for the Corvette hasn't been announced yet, we know the Corvette will start at less than $60,000. And as far as pricing goes, its closest competitor is the Porsche 718 Cayman, which also starts at just under $60,000. Both are mid-engined and rear-drive, but the Corvette offers an extra 195 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. The Cayman does boast a curb weight of right around 3,000 pounds, so it weighs a few hundred pounds less than the Corvette, but it's likely not enough to make up for the power deficit. The Corvette's sub-3.0-second 0-60 time bears this out against the Cayman's best 4.5-second run. Impressively, though, the Cayman has more cargo space than the Corvette in a package that's nearly 10 inches shorter. The Cayman also still offers a manual option for those that prefer self-shifting. The 2020 Toyota Supra is on the cheap end of this sports car class, just crossing $50,000. It also boasts more power than the Cayman, though it's still down by 160 ponies and 105 pound-feet of torque to the C8. It's also about as roomy as the Corvette, despite being about the same size as the Cayman. Cargo space is a bit tighter. Its driving characteristics will likely differ, too as the Supra sits on a front-engine platform. It might even feel closer to a C7 Corvette in some ways. The other mid-engine entry in this price range is the 2019 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider. Its small 1.7-liter turbo inline-4 only makes 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, but it's also far and away the lightest of this group at 2,487 pounds. That's roughly 1,000 pounds lighter than the Corvette. It isn't as fast as the Corvette in a straight line, but that lightness surely pays dividends in cornering and braking.
Chevy might've pulled out of NASCAR if it weren't for new Gen 6 car
Wed, 20 Feb 2013We've been on the fence with NASCAR for some time now. On one hand, it's some of the closest racing anywhere in motorsports, with actual passing and door-handle-to-door-handle action as a matter of course. But on the other, it's become template racing - a personality-driven sport more about the drivers than any sort of loyalty to a particular automaker. The Car Of Tomorrow format really rammed that message home, with a racecar's identity coming down to little more than headlamp stickers slapped on the nose. That's not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but we've wondered for some time what's in it for the automakers, who pay big money to stay in a series that has had little increasingly little do with street car sales, let alone innovation.
Apparently General Motors was beginning to wonder the same thing. In a new ESPN report, Rick Hendrick, team owner of Hendrick Motorsports, suggests that GM would have seriously considered leaving NASCAR if it wasn't for the move away from the COT to the new Gen 6 racer. According to Hendrick, GM North America boss Mark Reuss spearheaded the charge away from the 2007 COT and toward a racecar with clearer automaker ties - cars like the new Chevrolet SS racer shown above. Learn more about the fight for a closer-to-production look in the ESPN story at the link.
Now, if we could just get more rear-wheel drive V8 coupes into showrooms....
