Up for sale is a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier LS sport.  The real value in this car is in the audio system itself.  If you piece out the audio system you should get the car for close to free.  If the issues described above are addressed, car blue books for 2577.00.  Audio only, not including alternator, wiring, or fuse and fuse holders are valued right now for 2895.00 for a total value 5472.  That is conservative on the audio system value. This car has been built with the idea of audio competition in mind.  Unfortunately, I never got the opportunity to actually compete with the vehicle.  I have many friends that have done so,  and most describe the sound of this vehicle as something that some people spend their whole life trying to achieve.  It is truly spectacular.   I will get into the details of the audio system shortly.

First, the car itself is in good mechanical condition with a couple of exceptions.  The car needs paint.  I plasti dipped the car to get it looking as good as possible as cheap as possible.  If that is not for you the car can be peeled and the original paint revealed.  The original paint job is peeling off at the hood, roof, and deck lid where the sun has peeled off the clear coat.  There is also an area around the gas tank that started to peel due to fuel I assume.  These ares have been sanded, and smoothed out prior to coating the car with the plasti dip.  The plasti dip protects the rest of the paint in the meantime.

Other issues the car has is that the power window motor on the drivers side has started to slow down and most likely will need to be replaced soon.  There is also a tear in the roof liner, a small hole in the dash on the passenger side, the heat deflector no longer deflects to the floor, and the car does burn oil.  I have been keeping track of it and checking it at every fill up.

The good is that other than those things I listed the body is straight, no other mechanical issues, car runs and drivers great as is.  I just want to make sure that there are no surprises.

About the audio system:

The goal in the design of this system was to achieve concert level volume with limited distortion. To achieve this goal required a ton of power. This system has been in construction since 2003. The car is 100 percent sound deadened with dynamat, mass loaded vinyl and closed cell foam. After nearly all of all the rattles were eliminated, the electrical system has been completely overhauled. Electrical consists of 2 XS D3400 batteries, a 250 amp alternator, 0 gauge wire, big three upgrade, and multiple fuses to protect the vehicle.

Head unit is comprised of a Pioneer DEX P9 and a DEQ P9. Original retail on the head unit was over 2000.00. Sound quality is amazing, and the unit looks brand new. All wiring is Knuconceptz. The front stage is made up of custom fiberglass tweeter pods that hold the JBL 560 GTI tweeters and the waveguides that acompany this component set. The 560GTI mid is housed in a tightly seeled fiberglass kick panel enclosure. These mids alone sealed in the enclosure provide a nice kick to your chest. The doors have been modified to fit a 10" midbass driver with less than 3 1/4 inch depth. Currently both doors hold a 8" Melodic Acoustic Intimid8r midbass. These midbass drivers are outstanding and sound amazing.

The substage consists of 2 JBL W10gtimkii subwoofer in a ported box designed by PWK designs. Amazing ouptut, depth and clarity. My favorite subs along with Boston Acoustics G5 and the JL W7.

Powering the drivers are 3 PPI 900.4 amplifiers and JBL BPX 2200.1 for the subwoofers. Each channel of the 900.4 is bridged to an individual driver. Each tweeter gets 450 watts. Each mid gets 450 watts. Each 8 gets 450 watts. The two subs are seeing about 2600 watts of power total. RMS power of the system is a tad greater than 4000 watts.

Over 100 hours have gone into the tuning of this system alone.

Here is a list of the items and the original prices:

Pioneer P9 combo 2600.00
JBL 560gti 5 1/4 components 1299.00
Melodic Acoustic 8's 500.00
2 JBL W10gti 599 each
JBL BPX 2200.1 899.00
3 PPI 900.4 225.00 each
2 XS Power D3400 259 each
250 amp alternator 250.00
over 2000.00 in wiring and deadening

total 9400 approx not including installation.

Install on a job like this would run around 5-6000 as nearly all of it has been custom fabricated. A good pair of kicks will cost 5-700.

I am selling for 4200 OBO. I am going to try this post for a couple of weeks before I go ahead, yank all this stuff out and sell the car. Removing this system would be a travesty.

More photos will be available by request. Serious inquiries only.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my listing.

800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.

Indian tuner turns Chevy Optra into Mustang 'Eleanor' replica

Fri, 03 Aug 2012

If you are a big fan of automotive oddities, this may come as a little treat. If you are a Shelby or Mustang diehard, prepare to have your sensibilities violated.
The master fabricators at BigDaddyCustoms are the minds behind what you see above. At first, it appears to be a slightly misshapen custom Mustang, modeled after "Eleanor" from Gone In 60 Seconds, but upon further examination, something appears to be amiss. In fact, the custom shop, based in India, has created an Eleanor replica grafted upon a lowly Chevrolet Optra. While it may take a second for the Optra to ring a bell, you should recognize its badge-engineered sibling, the Daewoo Lacetti, used on Top Gear.
We don't know what star would opt for the Reasonably Priced Car in Shelby's clothing, but it's clearly someone more concerned with the aesthetic than the performance credentials of this automotive mash-up.

Junkyard Gem: 1980 Chevrolet LUV Mikado

Sat, Oct 9 2021

During the 1970s and into the 1980s, each member of the Detroit Big Three imported Japanese small pickups and sold them with Ford (Mazda Proceed), Dodge/Plymouth (Mitsubishi Forte), or Chevrolet (Isuzu Faster) badges here. Ford developed the Ranger and killed the Courier for 1983 (though Americans could still buy the Mazda-badged version all the way through 1993), while The General axed the LUV after the S-10 debuted in the 1982 model year. Isuzu sold the same truck as the P'up through 1987, though, and we might as well follow up our recent P'up Junkyard Gem with its LUV predecessor. LUV stood for Light Utility Vehicle, and I've managed to spot a handful in the boneyards over the years. This one now resides in a yard in northeastern Colorado. The Mikado trim package included striped seat upholstery and a sporty steering wheel, plus these cool dash badges. As far as I can tell, no LUV Mikado advertising featured any Gilbert and Sullivan tunes. This one is fairly rusty for Front Range Colorado, and it has endured a bed swap from some other small truck. The engine is the 75-horse Isuzu 1.8-liter. Members of this engine family went into everything from Chevy Chevettes to Isuzu Troopers in the United States. Very unusually for a small pickup during the Malaise Era, this one has a luxurious automatic transmission. Acceleration must have been a leisurely affair in this truck. Air conditioning? Unheard of! Someone stuck every one of their lunchtime apple stickers on the driver's door. After 41 years of work, this truck is done. Come on strong in a LUV of your own!
