1990 Chevrolet Caprice 9c1 Police Package on 2040-cars
Tiverton, Rhode Island, United States
FIRST AND FOREMOST, this is a PROJECT VEHICLE. It needs very little to be running and driving but is not currently roadworthy as it sits. Additionally this is a salvage yard rescue so all information about the car came to me via the previous owner. As such I cannot personally attest to specifics beyond what I can physically verify. Finally, there are MANY service vehicle parts included in the sale that either didn't come with the car or were removed when it was taken out of service. If the buyer were to sell these items individually they'd basically cover the car at the starting price. I personally wanted to build it as a Cannonball Rally car blacked out like an unmarked but lack of space and too many projects are forcing sale.
NO RESERVE! NO WARRANTY EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED! BUYER RESPONSIBLE FOR PICK-UP OR SHIPPING! AVAILABLE AS IS WHERE IS! PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE AD! GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY BIDDING! 1990 CHEVY CAPRICE Legitimate 9C1 Police Package. Originally used by California Highway Patrol. I'm assuming it was used as a special duty vehicle as it came with a full interior and there's no visible evidence of a cage. Body has very little rust and is pretty straight save for a few minor imperfections. Needs bumper fillers front and rear but don't they all? Frame has some scale (being from CA it left the factory minus undercoating) and a small soft spot near the rear bumper bracket but nothing major. The floors are very solid but do have a couple of significant dents in the rear foot-well where the car was picked up with the loader. Shouldn't be anything a little bit of banging can't fix (pictured). The interior is complete minus headliner and seats but a pair of leather front buckets from a Subaru Legacy Sport are included. The previous owner had installed a set of Recaros from a Mitsubishi Evo so bucket seat brackets and adapters are already mounted in the car. Car comes with a clear MA title signed by the previous owner to leave it open. Those of you who live anywhere near MA know that these titles might as well be golden. DRIVETRAIN & SUSPENSION This car originally came with a 350 that was Throttle Body Injected. The motor has been replaced with a low mileage (80-some-odd thousand) 305 4 Barrel out of a 1985 Monte Carlo. Though I can't verify the mileage and haven't heard it fire, the motor turns freely and has good compression. The only things needed for it to run are a distributor (HEI unit included but not installed (pictured in trunk)), exhaust manifolds (also pictured in trunk, not installed) and fuel pump. Being that this car was originally TBI it has an electronic fuel pump mounted in the gas tank. A mechanical fuel pump, pump rod, fuel pump plate, mechanical sending unit and a back up electronic fuel pump are all included (pictured in the trunk, not installed) as well as miscellaneous fuel lines and fittings. The electronic pump will either need to be removed or coupled to a special regulator to use with the carburetor. Overall, I'd say the buyer could have it running through open manifolds in an afternoon. Transmission is a 700R4 OD unit with a shift kit. Finally, the suspension is heavy duty PD issue with large bolt pattern truck axle and front/rear sway bars. EXTRA GOODIES Being that I wanted to build a long distance rally type of car and not restore it I gathered a few items that, although not originally for this year/model police car, would really set it off. Included are a genuine Police flood light removed from a Crown Victoria, one medium and pair of small flashers (removed from a newer SUV. Extremely bright), a dual speaker siren with PA feature removed from an ambulance and a CB radio (no antenna though). All these items were tested before removal and are in good working order. Overall it pains me to see this car go. With some elbow grease and a little bit more money this Caprice would be a mean hot rod well worthy of tearing up the streets. I'd say the car is 90% there but it needs you to put it over the top. I'm very hopeful that its' new owner can make it into the car I dreamed about and enjoy it for years to come! Is this '47 Chevrolet a rat rod or a sports car?
Sun, May 22 2016These days there are plenty of vehicles that blur the conventional automotive class structures. For instance, was the Honda Crosstour a wagon or an SUV? And what exactly was the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet? Regardless, those line-blurring cars (or trucks) are out there, and though this one didn't roll off a production line, it's still quite the automotive head-scratcher. Hailing from Missouri, this epic creation is one part mad science experiment, one part 1947 Chevrolet pickup, and one part '95 Mercury Cougar. Add it all up and you get an awesome truck-sports-car hybrid, complete with an outrageous wing and a V8 to boot. And interestingly enough, it's up for sale . RELATED: Check out this Wild-Styled Lamborghini Rat Rod So how does it all come together? According to the listing, the Chevrolet truck cab (which had previously been chopped) was sanded down to bare metal and given a thorough shellacking of clear coat. It was then melded together with the front end of a 1995 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck, and set low to the ground on Bilstein suspension drop spindles. Stance achieved. But instead of fielding an engine from either of those pickups, it pulls its heart from a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV—a big 5.3-liter V8 heart, that is. It comes backed-up to a GM Turbo 400 automatic transmission. Towards the rear however is where things get really interesting. A Copper Pearl coated tube frame chassis both attaches the rear independent suspension (a la Mercury Cougar) to the racy spoiler, as well as secures the rat rod's rear-mounted radiator, fan, and fuel tank. I'm not quite sure why, but it just looks glorious. RELATED: Reports Say Mid-Engine Corvette Will Arrive in 2018 Inside the vintage cab, the Chevrolet furthers its racing proclivities (it's said to have won burnout and auto-cross events) with a pair of harnessed racing seats, a drift brake, a detachable steering wheel, and a tachometer with oil and temperature gauges, but oddly no speedometer. The shifter is a crescent wrench. And its shift boot? That's a Crown Royal Purple bag. All in all, this grin-worthy Frankenstein creation tallies up bits and pieces from four different vehicles (five if you include the Camaro wheels), which make it truly a mash-up of epic proportions. Internet, what do you think? Related Video: This article by Zach Doell originally appeared on Boldride. Burt Reynolds' movie re-creations fetch $379,500 in Vegas
Wed, Oct 3 2018The recent death of Hollywood legend and automotive enthusiast Burt Reynolds helped drive up the value of four of his former cars from the 1970s and '80s, which sold last weekend at Barrett-Jackson's Las Vegas auction for a combined $379,500. Reynolds, who died Sept. 6 at age 82, had offered three Pontiac Trans Ams — two of them re-creations of the cars he drove in "Smokey and the Bandit" and "Hooper" and the third from 1984 used to promote his United States Football League team, the Tampa Bay Bandits. The fourth was a 1978 Chevrolet R30 pickup truck, styled like the one featured in "Cannonball Run." The "Bandit" re-creation, a 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am that Reynolds ordered to be as "movie-correct" as possible but featuring a custom-built 200-4R automatic transmission, sold for $192,500. The car features a freshly built Pontiac 400 cubic-inch V8 mated to a four-speed automatic and featuring all-new Butler Performance parts and air-conditioning components. Reynolds reportedly said this was his favorite car from his films, and it even came with an authentic movie-correct CB radio and CB antenna. The red retro-rocket "Hooper" '78 Firebird, with a 403 cubic-inch V8 and a three-speed automatic, hammered for $88,000. By comparison, a gold 1978 Trans Am also offered at the Las Vegas auction but not connected to Reynolds fetched $27,500. The 1987 Chevy R30 pickup was a re-creation of the Indy Hauler pace truck seen jumping over a moving freight train in "Cannonball Run." It hammered for $49,500. The fourth car never appeared in any of Reynolds' films but is instead the only surviving example of two Trans Ams used to promote the Tampa Bay Bandits of the now-defunct USFL, having been driven out onto the field by Reynolds and his late friend and co-star, Jerry Reed, during opening day one season. It also sold for $49,500. At the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction in 2016, Reynolds accompanied a 1977 Trans Am used to promote "Bandit" onto the auction block. That car sold for $550,000. Did the Chevy Corvette Z06 break 7 minutes at the Ring? Not likely
Wed, Jan 28 2015"Just because it's on the internet doesn't make it true." That's rule number one, two and arguably, three, of surfing the world wide web. In today's example of this rule, we have the following. The website HorsepowerKings is claiming that a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, with the eight-speed automatic and Z07 package, managed to lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife in under seven minutes. To put that in perspective, that super-quick time would put the 650-horsepower, $97,000 (the price of a 2LZ with the Z07/8AT combo) Z06 a mere two seconds slower around the world's most challenging race track than the $929,000, 887-horsepower Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach. It's about eight seconds quicker than Nissan's own test of the GT-R Nismo Track Pack and 13 seconds faster than a Dodge Viper ACR. Unfortunately, Chevy says there isn't anything to it. We reached out to the Bowtie's Monte Doran, who confirmed that HK's claims are "not accurate." "Any one – a manufacturer, a journalist, a guy standing on the fence of the Ring – can claim a lap time. As such, we think the in-car video is essential to proving a time is real and credible, and Chevrolet will not release a lap until we have a video to substantiate the claim," Doran told Autoblog. "Chevrolet accumulated nearly 1,000 miles of testing on the Nurburgring with the Z06. During that time, we only had two opportunities to run a lap on video – and both were rained out. If we get a lap on video, we will post an official time." Doran finished by referencing the "only official lap time" for the Z06 – a 2:41 around the Virginia International Raceway. Frankly, we aren't terribly surprised by Chevy's position. One would imagine if the Z06 were matching million-dollar hypercars around the 'Ring, the company would literally be screaming about it from Renaissance Center's rooftop. As this is quite the opposite of that, though, we're betting that the real Z06 lap time - while still likely very, very fast – won't be quite quick enough to frighten the brightest and best of today's hypercars.
