I have my ALL  ORIGINAL 1972 Caprice up for sale! I call this car "Papa Smurf" because of the original Blue w/White Vinyl Top color combination. I will start off by saying this is the car that you hear about people finding in barns, but never get lucky enough to find yourself until now!! I purchased this beautiful car from the original family that have owned this car since 1972, and bought brand new. I happened to be at the right place at the right time is the only reason I was lucky enough to get this car. I have the original dealer plate certificate/vehicle warranty to support what I'm saying'. I also have the original owners manual along with a 1972 Chevrolet Caprice/Impala options catalog. This car also has the original sun visors with complete instructions on how to start the car in hot or cold weather conditions, and I have never seen that on any of my other Chevrolets. I have owned several 70's model Caprice/Impalas, and this is by far the most beautiful, complete, and original one that I have ever had the pleasure of owning. This car had one re-paint back in 1990 to the original color, but it looks like it was just painted because this car has been garage kept since 1972! I also want to say that the car has been in storage every since I have owned it as you can see in the pics. This really was a lil ol' lady's car because that is who purchased and drove the car for the main majority of it's existance until she sadly passed away, and left it to her son which who sold it to me. He appeared to be in his late 60's to early 70's, by the way. This car comes with the 6.6L 402 Big Block which did not come standard with the car, and was a special order for the year so you are getting a rare Caprice. The 402 is basically a factory hotrod engine that started out as a 396 Big Block that was bored 0.30 over at the factory over making it a very powerful and strong 402 Big Block! The  transmission is a 350 Turbo Hydra-matic that shifts again around 70 m.p.h. This big thing just floats down the highway like a brand new car with lots of power when you need it! This car is missing NOTHING, and everything works. It has all the chrome trim, interior pieces, engine components, and even has the carpeted trunk w/ ORIGINAL SPARE TIRE and JACK! This is a numbers matching car that makes a huge difference to the collectors. This car is also equipped with the 4 Seasons Air Conditioning that's been already converted to R134, and works great. All new weather stripping has just been installed around the windows and doors making it air tight inside the car which makes a big difference as far as outside noise, and outside temperature getting in. Like I said this car is ALL ORIGINAL even down to the Original 8 Track Player that STILL WORKS. With this car you are getting something that's in it's pure form, and has not been stepped on by anyone! The engine has just been serviced with a detailed checkup and a fresh oil change. The car also has all new hoses under the hood. This car also already has rear air shocks installed. The exhaust leaks water when engine is running. If you know anything about cars then you know when a car leaks water that means the engine is running very cool and right. This car has a new master cylinder as well as a new radiator that was installed recently. Even the muffler that was replaced was replaced with an oem muffler instead of an aftermarket muffler to keep the car original. The seats are near perfect with the exception of the driver's seat having minor rips due to wear and tear with it being a 41 year old car. The rest of the seats are in excellent condition especially the back seat because it looks like nobody has ever sat in it. The headliner, sun tray, and dashboard(no cracks) are all in excellent shape! Even the woodgrain trim that's usually faded in these old cars is excellent, and the cigarette lighter still works after all these years. All the chrome is beautiful on the car with no rust, and it has the Deluxe Bumpers that come standard on the Caprice, but not on the Impala. The fuel guage works, and is very accurate due to the new fuel sending unit that's in the tank The car also has a new fuel pump. The Original White Vinyl top is also in excellent shape with no tears. The body is laser straight and has never had any bondo! The hood, trunk, and doors all shut as they did when the car was new and all line up with no gaps between the different body panels. Just look closely at the pics to see what I mean. This car is almost in showroom condition, and I personally have not seen none nicer in person. Whether you want to purchase this car to drive as is, or put the oversized wheels, and loud speakers in it you have a good start for either way. These old cars are becoming extinct like the dinosaurs, and to find one in this shape is very rare, and especially a 2 door hardtop! I have nothing to hide which is why I didn't cover up my license plate like other people, and I will say that the car does have very minor surface rust over the rear fender skirt on the driver's side, but no holes and NOT coming through the paint. If I wouldn't have told you then you probably would have never noticed.  I have been all over the internet looking at these cars for sale, and you are not gonna find one like this one that's in it's all original NUMBERS MATCHING condition for under 20k NOWHERE, so my Buy It Now price is a steal!! I'm sure you can find a 1972 cheaper, but by the time you hunt down and pay for all the missing parts, bodywork, and mechanical issues you are gonna wish you bought this one in the first place. If you want junk then I can't help you, but if you want a beautiful original  classic then here you go! .I realize that I will probably not find another 1972 Caprice in this shape that's affordable again, but my loss is your gain. You really have to see and drive this car in person to really appreciate the true beauty of it. I reserve the right to end this listing early due to the car being advertised locally also. Thanks for viewing my car/listing, and Happy Bidding!!

Here are a few of our automotive guilty pleasures

Tue, Jun 23 2020

It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. The world is full of cars, and just about as many of them are bad as are good. It's pretty easy to pick which fall into each category after giving them a thorough walkaround and, more important, driving them. But every once in a while, an automobile straddles the line somehow between good and bad — it may be hideously overpriced and therefore a marketplace failure, it may be stupid quick in a straight line but handles like a drunken noodle, or it may have an interior that looks like it was made of a mess of injection-molded Legos. Heck, maybe all three. Yet there's something special about some bad cars that actually makes them likable. The idea for this list came to me while I was browsing classified ads for cars within a few hundred miles of my house. I ran across a few oddballs and shared them with the rest of the team in our online chat room. It turns out several of us have a few automotive guilty pleasures that we're willing to admit to. We'll call a few of 'em out here. Feel free to share some of your own in the comments below. Dodge Neon SRT4 and Caliber SRT4: The Neon was a passably good and plucky little city car when it debuted for the 1995 model year. The Caliber, which replaced the aging Neon and sought to replace its friendly marketing campaign with something more sinister, was panned from the very outset for its cheap interior furnishings, but at least offered some decent utility with its hatchback shape. What the two little front-wheel-drive Dodge models have in common are their rip-roarin' SRT variants, each powered by turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. Known for their propensity to light up their front tires under hard acceleration, the duo were legitimately quick and fun to drive with a fantastic turbo whoosh that called to mind the early days of turbo technology. — Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski  Chevrolet HHR SS: Chevy's HHR SS came out early in my automotive journalism career, and I have fond memories of the press launch (and having dinner with Bob Lutz) that included plenty of tire-smoking hard launches and demonstrations of the manual transmission's no-lift shift feature. The 260-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder was and still is a spunky little engine that makes the retro-inspired HHR a fun little hot rod that works quite well as a fun little daily driver.

Why the Corvette is Chevrolet's billion-dollar baby

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Edmunds has worked up a piece that tries to figure out just how much the global Chevrolet Corvette economy is worth, a spitballed guesstimate putting the number at more than $2.5 billion with the proviso that the number is probably low. It starts by taking Corvette's new car sales of 14,132 units last year, which would equate to $714,725,900 (including destination) assuming ever car sold was a base coupe with no options. In the final tally, a little extra padding gets that number up to $750,000,000.
But that's not all. Consider this: Many of the almost 1.4 million Corvettes produced over the model's history are still on the road. There are new parts being produced and aftermarket companies like Mid-America Motorworks deaing business, that single Illinois company doing more than $40 million a year in sales. There are the Corvette events large and small, restorers who do nothing but Corvettes, salvage yards that deal only in used Corvette parts and the Corvette magazines where owners find all this stuff.
And then there are the Corvette-themed tchotchkes, every single one of which provides a tiny contribution to the huge licensing royalties that General Motors collects every year. The article admits there's no way to come to an accurate number, but it just goes to show how valuable one specific model can be to a company.

The 2019 North American International Auto Show might have been a little more quiet than past years, but there were still some pretty major reveals, including the Toyota Supra, new Ford Explorer, Shelby GT500, Subaru WRX STI S209 and Kia Telluride. We also saw some lovely concepts like the Nissan IMs and Lexus LC Convertible. Senior Editor Alex Kierstein, Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski and Senior Green Editor John Beltz Snyder join me, Associate Editor Reese Counts — with Social Media Manager Michael Dylan Ferrara behind the camera — on a long walk through the show. We discuss cars, poke around the stands, dress a bloody wound and answer your questions in the Facebook comments. For more Detroit coverage, you can check out Autoblog's picks for the best in show, listen to our podcast or look at the best images from all the reveals. Finally, don't forget to watch Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore hand over our 2019 Technology of the Year award.
