THIS 1996 CAPRICE CLASSIC IS ESSENTIALLY THE SAME AS THE IMPALA SS , CADILLAC FLEETWOOD AND THE BUICK ROADMASTER OF THE SAME ERA (BUILT WITH THE lT1 ENGINE FOR ONLY 3 YRS 94-96) THIS CAPRICE COMES FROM THE FACTORY WITH THE EXTRA HEAVY DUTY COOLING SYSTEM (CODE#B4U) MEANING FOR TRAILER TOWING PACKAGES) THIS CAPRICE ALSO IS EQUIPPED WITH THE HEAVY DUTY SUSPENSION, DUAL EXHAUST, POSI REAR END. THE FAN SHROUD LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE RAD FACILITATES THE THERMOSTATICALLY CONTROLLED MECHANICAL FAN DRIVEN DIRECTLY OFF THE CRANK, NOT OFF THE SERPENTINE BELT THAT DRIVES THE ALT, POWER STEERING AND AIR COD. THE WATER PUMP IS DRIVEN DIRECTLY FROM THE END OF THE CAM SHAFT. THE MECHANICAL FAN ONLY OPERATES IN CONJUNCTION WITH A LARGE ELECTRIC FAN LOCATED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE RAD. THIS COMBINATION COOLING SYSTEM IS ONLY AVAILABLE ON LT1 350S WITH THE B4U CODE.I'VE OWNED THIS CAPRICE FOR 4 YEARS AND BOUGHT IT FROM A NEW CAR DEALER WHO HAD IT ON ITS LOT  AT QUITE HIGH PRICE. I KNEW THAT NEW CAR DEALERS DO NOT TRY TO SELL 14 YR OLD CARS ON THEIR LOTS UNLESS THEY ARE IN VERY GOOD SHAPE. MOST OFTEN THESE CARS  ARE WHOLESALED OUT IMMEDIATELY TO USED CAR DEALERS OR GO DIRECTLY TO AUCTION. SO T TOOK A CLOSER LOOK AND FOUND IT TO BE A ONE OWNER VEHICLE AND IN WHEN FOUND IN EASTERN CANADA AND IN THIS GOOD OF SHAPE, KNEW THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD TAKEN VERY GOOD CAR OF IT AND DRIVEN IT SPARINGLY DURING THE PREVIOS 14 YRS (APPROX 6000 MILES PER YEAR AND BY THE SHAPE OF THE CAR KEPT IT GARAGED AND SELDOM WINTER DROVE IT.I BOUGHT THIS CAR AS I KNEW HOW RARE AND COLLECTABLE THEY ARE BECOMING AND HAVE OWNED THREE LIKE THIS PREVIOUSLY AND FOUND THEM TO BE VERY STRONG AND RELIABLE CARS.I HAVE ONLY DRIVEN THIS CAR APPROX 5000 MILES SINCE BUYING IT AND HAVE ALWAYS STORED IT DURING THE WINTER. ONE WILL ONLY HAV TO SEE THIS CAR AND DRIVE IT TO AGREE IT IS AS GOOD AS I AM REPRESENTING IT TO BE.

Motor Trend puts Chevy Camaro Z28 and Porsche 911 GT3 Head 2 Head

Mon, Dec 29 2014

Motor Trend admits, "This is an unfair comparison." But that doesn't make it any less fun to watch when they pit a Camaro Z/28 against the Porsche 911 GT3. The former has a 7.0-liter V8 with 505 horsepower and 481 pound-feet of torque shifted through a six-speed manual. The latter has a 3.8-liter flat-six with 475 hp and 324 lb-ft shifted through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Yet those are only the little disparities – the big disparities are mass and money: the Camaro weighs 3,882 pounds and costs $76,150 as-tested, the Porsche weighs 3,267 pounds and costs $145,785. But they're both about hardcore performance, so MT takes them out on the street, to the drag strip, to the parking lot for figure eights and a skidpad test, and finally to Big Willow for Randy Pobst to give his professional assessment. Remember when a lotta people spent a lotta time debating Pirates vs. Ninjas? This is like that, only it's the "haul-ass good-time car" vs. the "track surgeon." Enjoy the debate in the video.

General Motors CEO Provides Few Details In Appearance Before Congress

Wed, Apr 2 2014

It was only two months ago that Mary Barra, freshly crowned as the new General Motors chief executive officer, visited Washington DC as an esteemed guest of First Lady Michelle Obama for the State of the Union address. On Tuesday, Barra returned to the Capitol under more strained circumstances. For more than two contentious hours, she took questions from members of a House of Representatives subcommittee investigating General Motors years-long delay in initiating a recall of millions of vehicles that contained a defect that has killed at least 13 people. Why did GM accept faulty ignition switches that were below the company's set specfications? Why did GM learn about the problem in 2001 yet take no action until 2014? Will GM compensate victims' families even though the company's bankruptcy may limit its liability? Those were a few of the questions members of the House Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee asked. Few concrete answers were forthcoming. For her part, Barra sidestepped most of the questions, saying she wouldn't have information needed to answer them until an internal review is completed. David Friedman, the administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, testified after Barra. The biggest news that emerged from the hearing was that General Motors has retained attorney Kenneth Feinberg to advise the company on its civil and legal responsibilities. He has made a career of resolving disputes and serving in a 'fixer' role, serving as the chief of the federal government's September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, as an administrator of compensation fund for victims of the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster and a similar fund for victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. Barra, who has been GM's CEO since January but been with the company since 1980, expects to meet with Feinberg on Friday, and have a concrete plan within the next 30-60 days. Yet Barra would not say for certain Tuesday that GM would compensate the victims at all. Despite repeated questions from Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), Barra did not outline the company's intentions. "I assume GM is hiring (Feinberg) to help identify the size of claims and then compensate the victims? Is that right," DeGette asked. "Is GM willing to put together some kind of a compensation fund for these victims that Mr. Feinberg will then administer?" "We've hired him to help assess the situation," Barra replied. "So really, there's no money involved at this point," DeGette asked.

Chevy Volt 'acceptable,' Nissan Leaf 'poor' in new IIHS safety tests

Thu, Jul 31 2014

Ford C-Max Hybrid also scored "acceptable" rating. With US Nissan Leaf sales up almost 30 percent during the first half of the year, the only thing that might be able to stop the battery-electric vehicle is a good, stiff barrier. Unfortunately, thing's aren't always pretty when that happens in the real world, according to new tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Things with the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in are a little bit rosier, though. The two plug-in vehicles were part of a batch of a dozen vehicles that just went through the IIHS's "small overlap" test, in which the driver's side front corner of the vehicle is crashed into a rigid barrier at 40 miles per hour. Out of the dozen, only the Mini Cooper Countryman was given a "good" rating. Five vehicles, including the Volt and the Ford C-Max Hybrid, were rated "acceptable," two were "marginal" and two, including the Leaf, were "poor." Plug-in vehicles are unique in the crash-test context because of their relatively large battery sizes. In the Volt's case, the driver had a "low risk" of injury, said the IIHS. But the Leaf's crash substantially pushed back the instrument panel and steering column, creating a scenario where the driver was "likely" to sustain leg injuries. The batteries in both the Leaf and the Volt passed safety tests specifically targeted at things like thermo and electrical properties and overall integrity. "Nissan is proud of the Leaf's 'Good' rating in all other IIHS tests, a 4-star NCAP rating from NHTSA and its IIHS Top Safety Pick rating in all previous years since the car's release," the company said in an e-mail sent to AutoblogGreen. "As for the performance of the 2014 Leaf in the 'small overlap frontal test,' Nissan will continue to review these and other results from the IIHS 'small overlap frontal test' as we seek opportunities for improvement." Check out the IIHS's press release and small car crash-test video footage below. Range of ratings: Small car ratings run the gamut in challenging small overlap front test The Mini Cooper Countryman is the only small car to earn a good rating among the latest group of 12 cars subjected to the Institute's small overlap front crash test. Two electric models and a hybrid also are in the mix, with varied results. The electric-powered Chevrolet Volt (with a gasoline engine "range extender") earns an acceptable rating, while its battery-electric rival, the Nissan Leaf, earns a poor rating.
