Drop the top, let the wind flow through your hair, & spank a Hellcat with its skinny little rear tires & only 707 HP. Roast a Ferrari. Laugh at a Porsche. Smoke a Ford Shelby GT500. Beat the new Corvette Z06. Kill the new Camaro Z-28. Outrun a Corvette ZR-1. Outperform most Lamborghinis. All this for a fraction of what everything else costs. (Just don’t race a Tesla P85D). Don’t blow $10K on a new clutch for a Ferrari, or a Lamborghini. Instead, think of all the fun you can have burning through $10K worth of drag radials on this thing. There is no need to drink coffee when you own this beast – just mash the gas for a few seconds & your blood is flowing, you’re wide awake, & you’re instantly in a good mood. This build was planned out with Lingenfelter (LPE) & Fastlane of Houston (which has over 15 years’ experience building race cars) to be even more reliable than a stock ZL1, but have the performance of a much more aggressive car. This is the ZL1 that GM should have built for the masses to outperform, & outsell the widely popular Hellcat. A very modest 750 HP & 750 TQ on 91 octane, 93 octane, or E85 - that is reliable enough to easily drive across the country & back without any issues. A very conservative 640HP at the rear wheels. The dyno pull was stopped well before the max potential of the motor. 800+ HP is likely a more accurate description of this motor's power, but it safely pulls 750 HP without coming close to red-lining it. Comes with a few 32 oz. cans of Torco Race Fuel Concentrate for those times when you want a little extra kick. She gets very happy with 1 can per tank. Well over $100,000 to duplicate. Think of all the money you will save, & even more importantly, think of all the time you will save by not having to do all the research, dropping off the car here for this modification, & dropping off the car there for that modification. The work is already done. This torque monster is ready to roll. Sounds like a race boat. It has scared people when it starts. Has a very impressive idle. Even at idle, it sounds like it will beat most high performance cars. People ask me all the time if they can take pictures of it. If you don’t want attention, then this bad boy is not for you. Adult owned. Never abused, & never taken to a track. This beast will easily surpass 205 mph. The 5 performance driving modes from the ZL1 coupe are installed on this convertible (the convertible ZL1 normally only comes with 3 modes). It will break the tires loose if you punch it at 60 mph in Competitive Driving Mode – just make sure you are pointed in a straight line. Spin the tires at will. This car is addicting. It has the same Magnetic Ride Control suspension that is on the new Cadillacs & the new Corvettes. It literally “Rides like a Cadillac”. It drives like a stock ZL1….until you open it up. Triple Black. Lots of Lingenfelter (LPE) goodies. Lingenfelter solid isolator installed to replace the problematic OEM spring loaded isolator these car’s superchargers are known for having. ARP head stud kit. LPE 160 degree thermostat. Vmax CNC ported 90mm Throttle Body.D3ep heat exchanger 3X bypass inter-cooler.D3ep high capacity water reservoir with an extra 1 ˝ gallons of coolant. Stock radiator replaced with the largest aluminum radiator that will fit. RotoFab Cold Air Intake with brand new filter. LPE 10% Overdrive Balancer Pulley. LPE 8 rib 10 bolt pulley. 850ID fuel injectors by Injector Dynamics. LPE LSX double valve spring titanium retainer & seals kit. LPE 76 MM Idler Pulley Kit. LPE LSA Idler Relocation BracketLarge diameter Stainless Works long tube headers. Deleted cats. X-Pipe. Stock dual-mode mufflers (much better than aftermarket mufflers). Apex oil return catch can.Lingenfelter LS GT9 Hydraulic roller cam. LPE 3 bolt cam conversion kit. Pro Series heavy duty timing chain by Iwis. Heavy duty pushrods. Comp Cams LS rocker arm trunion kit. NGK spark plugs with correct heat range for increased boost. New gaskets. Fresh full-synthetic oil change. Custom carbon fiber hood – 4 rows of functional heat extraction vents instead of the stock 2 rows of restrictive vents. Custom moulded-in side fender vents. 2 new Goodyear F1 285/35/20 Supercar tires up front2 new Nitto NT05R 315/35/20 Drag Radials out back.Automatic transmission.$500 Hurst shifter. Steering wheel mounted paddle shifters that allow the car to be shifted much quicker than a manual transmission. HID projector head lights with LED Halo Angel Eyes. Custom carbon fiber accents everywhere. These parts have been dipped in carbon fiber: super charger cover, strut brace, cold air intake, fuse box, front splitter, all the front light rings, fog light housings, front grill – top & bottom, front & rear bow tie emblems, tail light bezels, rear diffuser, side rocker panel covers, & probably a few other pieces I’m forgetting. Viper LED 2-way alarm system with remote start with 1 mile range.Tinted windows.Immaculate power black top. Loaded with GPS, Heads Up Display, satellite radio, backup camera, suede seat & dash package, & all the options. Built for reliability. Great tune. Gobs of low-end torque. The heads are still stock.

Next-gen Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra may use carbon fiber

Thu, Dec 7 2017

It's been generally accepted that the next generation of full-size GM trucks will use some sort of strong, lightweight material for the beds while retaining steel for the cab. While aluminum seems like the most obvious choice, according to Automotive News, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra will incorporate both aluminum and carbon fiber in their beds. The publication cites sources from within GM, though it seems the introduction of this comparatively exotic material mix is still a few years off. While carbon fiber is both stronger and lighter than steel and aluminum, it takes significantly more time and money to produce, essentially relegating the material to small-volume cars. The main benefit for trucks is the resulting reduction in weight to improve fuel economy without sacrificing the tough, rugged capabilities truck buyers expect. The Ford F-150 made the switch to aluminum for the 2015 model year and it's proved highly successful. It seemed like it was only a matter of time before the competition followed suit. Automotive News says that the next-gen trucks will launch with aluminum beds and that it will take a couple of years before we'll see any carbon fiber incorporated into the design. Even then, only look for the composite material on higher-trim models, with a trickle down to lower-spec trucks possible further in the future. In 2011, GM announced it was working with Japan-based Teijin Limited on a carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic. There's a good chance that material's introduction will be on trucks. A hybrid and electric Corvette, plus we drive the Ioniq 5 | Autoblog Podcast #728

Fri, May 6 2022

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Road Test Editor Zac Palmer. Zac drove the electric 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Greg drove the fire-breathing 2022 Maserati Levante Trofeo. The two dive deep into the relatively heavy news week by starting off with a discussion about the upcoming hybrid Corvette before chatting about what the electric Corvette might be like. They have a chat about the possibility of Porsche and Audi officially joining the Formula 1 field. Then, Greg and Zac get into some quick-hitting news to round out the segment by dissecting the updated Kia Soul (now without a turbo), the 30th Anniversary Edition Land Rover Defender and the new CEO at Aston Martin. Following the news and drive reviews, they rope in Senior Editor, Green John Beltz Snyder to give them a quick download of what went down at the first drive for the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. Finally, they reach into the mailbag and answer some questions from someone who is less than pleased about infotainment systems in some new cars. And lastly, the gang hears back from someone they helped out in a prior Spend My Money segment on the podcast. Send us your questions for the Mailbag and Spend My Money at: Podcast@Autoblog.com. 2016 Chevy Volt to make auto show debut this season

Wed, Jul 30 2014

Ever since we saw that spy shots of the 2016 Chevy Volt, we've been hungering for more information on the next-gen version of GM's green halo car. It appears we might not have long to wait, at least for an official tease. An inside source that wishes to remain anonymous told AutoblogGreen that GM will make two announcements regarding the second-gen Volt at the CAR Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City, MI next week. The first, and most intriguing, is that that we will get our first glimpse of the new Volt at some point during the upcoming auto show season. That means either Los Angeles later this year or else Detroit, Chicago or New York in early 2015. The second bit of news is that GM will be moving production of the electric motors from Mexico to Michigan. Details and official confirmation are, of course, missing and Chevrolet declined comment to AutoblogGreen. We should know more next week.
