Purposeful chassis upgrades, advanced aerodynamics and the grip of Pirelli® PZero Trofeo tires help to keep the Z/28 glued to the track, enabling 1.08 g in cornering grip.

BRAKES

Brembo® carbon-ceramic brakes provide up to 1.5 g deceleration and limit brake fade to enhance driver confidence lap after lap

LIGHTWEIGHT PARTS

Z/28 has been made lighter throughout. From the lightweight LS7 engine to an ultra-thin rear window and stripped-down rear seat, Z/28 weighs 300 lbs. less than ZL1.

Customized control

Z/28 is designed to excel on road courses, and Performance Traction Management helps achieve just that. With five driver modes to choose from, this system adjusts to just about any driver capability or road course condition. Working in tandem with the uniquely tuned Z/28 chassis and dampers, Performance Traction Management delivers unparalleled vehicle control.

Engineered to perform

A hand-assembled 7.0L LS7 engine is the heart of Camaro Z/28, boasting an incredible 505 horsepower and 481 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the most powerful normally aspirated regular production GM small block V8 ever.

Co-developed with Corvette Racing, the LS7 uses lightweight racing-quality components like titanium intake valves and connecting rods to ensure high performance and durability, even when redlining at 7000 rpm. The racing-style cold air induction system and large K&N air filter and standard dual-mode exhaust system maximize airflow, torque and sound generated by the LS7 engine. A 10.5-quart dry-sump oiling system distributes pressurized oil to protect engine components during high-g driving conditions, ensuring consistent, reliable performance.

Limited-slip, unlimited grip

When you’re fitted with the most powerful naturally aspirated regular production GM small block V8 ever, you need components that keep your lines tight and the rubber on the road. The high-performance helical limited-slip differential (LSD) utilized by Z/28 helps do just that. Featuring a concentric helical gearset that allows continuous torque biasing, this high-performance LSD enables responsive corner entry, maximizes traction through the turn and provides quick acceleration on corner exit. In short, the limited-slip differential featured on Z/28 is perfect for road racing, lowering lap times on every lap.

Track-capable cooling

Camaro Z/28 comes off the showroom floor with a road course-capable cooling system. An integral liquid-to-liquid engine oil cooler helps keep things cool under intense conditions. A second, unique liquid-to-liquid system provides cooling for the transmission and differential, reducing differential temperatures as much as 100° F, maintaining cool, stable performance in the most intense road racing conditions.

Performance Traction Management

If you’re on the race track and all four wheels of your Z/28 leave the ground during certain conditions, ride height sensors are enabled that temporarily disable traction control so that when the car lands it is still at full power, for the quickest possible lap times.

The 2015 Camaro Z/28 track car was born to be a precision instrument on the track, utilizing decades of racing innovation and ingenuity. Every single element of the exterior is designed with performance in mind, while forming an aggressive and unique style.

Aerodynamically advanced

Z/28 attains the highest level of aerodynamic performance ever achieved in the history of Camaro. Carefully engineered aerodynamic elements help Z/28 produce an incredible 410 lbs. more downforce than Camaro SS at 150 mph. An exclusive, aggressively styled rear spoiler and large splitter help achieve such downforce and a hood air extractor helps cool the engine while also contributing to the overall track performance of Z/28. An optional adjustable rear wickerbill tops off this impressive aerodynamic package, when equipped.

Audi S4 drivers are the most accident-prone, insurance report says

Sun, Jun 25 2023

Culling data from more than 4.6 million automobile insurance applications, researchers at the Insurify insurance comparison marketplace picked a winner — or more to the point, a loser — in its determination of the car model with the most accidents so far in 2023: the Audi S4. Why does the sporty, luxury-class German sedan rank so high (or so low)? The organization found that S4 drivers, piloting a car with almost 350 horsepower, are among those who collect the most speeding tickets, and that they get into accidents at a rate 54 percent higher than the national average. If the S4 isnÂ’t a surprise with an at-fault accident rate of 11.7 percent, consider the “family friendly” brand that appears three times on the Insurity list: Subaru. It is represented by three models, including the turbocharged WRX and XV Crosstrek, and at the better-performing bottom of the list, the Subaru Impreza, with an accident rate of 10.3 percent.  In 2023, 7.6 percent of U.S. drivers were involved in at least one at-fault accident in the prior seven years. For drivers of cars on this list, the average at-fault accident rate was 10.5 percent, meaning these drivers are 1.4 times as likely to have an at-fault accident on record. According to its statement, the Insurity data science team explored key safety features, driver behavior, and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) evaluations to pinpoint possible reasons behind these carsÂ’ high accident rates. Following is the list, counting down to the models with most reported accidents: 10. Subaru Impreza (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.3 percent; MSRP base model): $19,795) 9. Kia Niro (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.4 percent; MSRP base model): $26,590) 8. Chevrolet Silverado LD (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.4%, MSRP base model): $34,500) 7. Subaru XV Crosstrek (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.5 percent, MSRP 6. Subaru WRX.(percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.7% MSRP base model): $29,605) 5. Toyota GR86 (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.8 percent MSRP base model): $29,900) 4. Hyundai Veloster N (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.9 percent; MSRP base model): $32,500) 3.

Driving Granatelli's turbine-powered 1978 Chevy Corvette [w/video]

Thu, Jan 8 2015

With its curvy snout and feminine haunches, the third-gen Chevrolet Corvette looks like a dreamy – if dated – exemplar of Sports Car Fantasy 101 when viewed through modern eyes. This particular specimen circa '78, clad in silver and black paint with red pinstripes, appears to be a well-preserved example from the era. Apart from its low-profile Pirellis, slightly raised and slotted hood, spacious stance and a certain hand-painted descriptor alongside its crossed flag logos, you'd never guess there's a Space-Age propulsion unit powering this Coke bottle-bodied ride. Climb inside, and you're presented with aircraft gauges and big, colorful square buttons in the center panel. It takes a push of the "Ignitor" button, a tap of the starter button, and a slide of a T-handle for this nearly 40-year-old sports car to start sounding like Gulfstream G650 ready for takeoff. Yep, you're sitting in an 880-horsepower, turbine-powered Corvette, the only one of its kind in the world. Welcome to the whoosh. What The...? Built by Vince Granatelli, son of Indy 500 guru Andy Granatelli, this curious Corvette came into being by cramming a Pratt & Whitney ST6N-74 gas turbine engine into the donor car's lengthy front end. The same type of Jet A-burning mill powered Granatelli Senior's STP-sponsored racecar at the 1967 Indianapolis 500, where it famously led most of the 198 of 200 laps until a $6 transmission bearing failed, knocking it out of the race. The idea of turbine power usurping internal combustion was so threatening that Indy's governing body restricted turbine performance into obsolescence thereafter. A turbine-powered Corvette sounds excessive because it is. But there are also things about this 880-horsepower, 1,161-pound-feet monster that might surprise you. While it smacks of futurist exoticism and cost a then-dizzying $37,000 in 1967, the Canadian-built powerplant uses 80 percent fewer parts than an internal combustion V8 and will run on virtually anything combustible – whiskey, diesel, even Chanel No. 5. Though it's triple the length of a V8, the Pratt & Whitney beast weighs only 285 pounds. It's also one hell of a robust workhorse, typically serving as an auxiliary power unit for commercial aircraft or a generator in oil fields, where it can run for tens of thousands of consecutive hours before needing an overhaul. To adapt the Chevrolet for jet duty, the nose section was gutted and a sub-frame was built to compensate for the loosey-goosey front end.

2015 Chevy Silverado Custom Sport is subtle in black

Mon, Jan 12 2015

In a world where trucks are growing bigger, bolder grilles and more muscle-bound looks, Chevrolet is trying something a bit different with its recently revealed Custom Sport edition for the 2015 Silverado at the this year's Detroit Auto Show. The edition leans on being understated, instead of screaming about its abilities. The design is supposed to be a throwback to the Chevy Custom Sport Trucks of the late '60s that brought a touch of elegance to these usually utilitarian vehicles at the time. The heart of the package is its monochromatic body-color touches for the bumpers and grille surround. The one on display at the show is especially attractive with a chrome-accented black grille that fits perfectly with the rest of the body. The edition does get a bit more shine with chrome covering the 20-inch wheels, door handles, mirror caps and side moldings. In addition, buyers get projector beam headlights, tow hooks and heated power mirrors. The custom package is available on the LT trim in black or white and on the LTZ in black or White Diamond Tricoat. Take a look at this monochromatic take on the Silverado as it sits in the Motor City. 2015 SILVERADO OFFERS CUSTOM SPORT PACKAGE Inspired by Chevy Custom Sport Trucks that helped launch personal-use pickups DETROIT, 07/01/15 – With the new 2015 Silverado Custom Sport special edition, Chevrolet pays homage to one of its most iconic pickups, adding a sophisticated monochromatic look to double- and crew-cab Silverados. The Custom Sport package features body-colored front and rear bumpers and a body-colored grille surround with a chrome-accented black grille. Other accents include 20-inch chrome wheels, chrome door handles and mirror caps, and chrome body-side moldings. The package also includes projector beam headlamps, tow hooks and heated power-adjusted mirrors. "The Custom Sport special edition was inspired by Chevy Custom Sport Trucks of the late 1960s," said Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet Trucks marketing director. "Those CST models added a touch of elegance to a great all-around truck, just like the Custom Sport package for the new Silverado." The redesigned 1967 Chevrolet pickup entered the market at a time when trucks were starting to move off the jobsites and into the driveways of cities and suburbs. The 1967 Custom Sport Truck, with its bright trim, plush carpet and bucket seats, helped launch a wave of personal use pickups that continues today.
