2013 Chevrolet Camaro Zl1 700hp on 2040-cars
Odenton, Maryland, United States
Up for sale is my 2013 Camaro ZL1 Coupe. It has the 6 speed manual transmission, and currently has 4831 miles. Outside, it's painted Victory Red, and has the available black interior, with contrasting red stiching and alcantara inserts on the seats and dash. It has the optional 5 spoke aluminum wheels with polished accents. It has the 100% real carbon fiber hood insert as well. Rounding out the options on this car is a power moonroof and the interior sueded microfiber (Alcantara) flat-bottomed steering wheel and shift knob. I'll assume if you are looking at this auction, you are aware of the features that make a ZL1 special and seperate it from the rest of the Camaro line-up. It starts with the 6.2L Supercharged V8 engine, rated at 580HP from the factory. This Camaro is fully track capable with the Magnetic Ride Control system as well as a Performance Traction Management (PTM) system. PTM works by integrating Magnetic Ride Control, Launch Control, Traction Control and electronic Stability Control to work together optimally depending on the environment and task at hand. The ZL1 also has a dual mode exhaust system, which opens flaps within the muffler to raise the exhaust volume by 50%. It goes without saying that while this car looks awesome, all its unique bodywork has its own purpose to achieve the best aerodynamic characteristics. Lastly, the ZL1 has all the creature comforts you can imagine - Bluetooth, heated seats, Heads-up Display, 9 Speaker Boston Acoustics stereo, Homelink, power seats/locks/windows and keyless entry just to name a few. This car has quite a few performance and appearance modifications to make it unique, and really live up to its full potential. I'll first go over the appearance items. I installed Hotchkis lowering springs, to mainly bring the front end of the car down. ZL1s are lower than other Camaro's from the factory, but I wasn't happy with the wheel gap. These springs are very mild and lowered the front of the car 1/2" and the rear 1/8". With the magnetic ride control, the car literally rides identical to factory, and isn't lowered enough to affect around town driving. This car can make it over any speed bump without rubbing. After lowering, I had the car realigned to make sure everything was back to factory spec. I have tinted the side and rear windows 20%, and added a 50% film to the moonroof to help keep potential UV fading down. I installed silver metallic vinly overlays on the front and rear Bowties to get rid of the gold OEM style. I've added black/red vinyl to the ZL1 machined recess on the wheel spokes to add a bit of contrast and tie in with the rest of the car. I've added LED Fog and DRL light bulbs, as well as a plug-n-play harness to keep the DRLs on when the fog lights are on. I've also added the GM Accessory ZL1 logo floor mats. Lastly, I have plasti-dipped the tail light bezels black. Should you prefer the OEM chrome, I will remove the plastidip before you take delivery. Now, onto the performance modifications! The goal of this build was to keep the car as close to factory characteristics and driveability as possible. Other than some blower whine, and being much quicker obviously, you'll fool everyone into thinking it's stock. The exhaust is 100% stock, so it sounds just like it did when it was new. I did add a Mild 2 Wild switch to keep the dual mode exhaust flaps open at your discretion. If you want it quiet and drone-free, keep it closed...if you're cruising around town, you can open them up via the programmed Homelink button - again, completely stock looking! I've installed a RotoFab Cold Air Intake, which feeds into a ported Throttle Body and Blower Snout. I've installed a solid isolater to eliminate any future issues with the problematic OEM spring loaded isolater. A smaller 2.4" Metco Interchangable Pulley was installed, which utilizes the OEM pulley end cap to remain stock in appearance. New, larger ID850 fuel injectors were installed to help keep up with the extra air being pumped in via the upper pulley swap. I decided to install an OEM LS9 camshaft with PAC 1518 Valve Springs. This camshaft comes in the Corvette ZR1 from the factory, and is a perfect OEM style upgrade to really take advantage of the pulley swap. Of course, since it comes in the ZR1 from the factory, drivability and street manners are just as stock. To round out the additions to the engine, new NGK spark plugs were added, as well as a 160 thermostat and shorter length serpentine belt. To help with any potential heat soaking issues, I've added a gallon capacity RotoFab intercooler tank. While it nearly doubles the system capacity, it also gives you an easy way to add and monitor coolant for the intercooler system as it's seperate from the engine cooling system. Lastly, the car was live dyno and street tuned by Jeremy Formato, owner of FasterProms in Tampa, Florida, who has one of the highest reputations in the LS tuning community for over a decade. The car made 610rwhp and 616rwtq as evidenced in the attached Dyno Graph. At a pretty standard 15% drivetrain loss, figure right at 700HP at the flywheel! Here is a quick walk around video of the car: http://youtu.be/tgUL-yA-Wqc Send me an email with your phone number if you would like to chat about the car - I'm proud how it turned out and will be more than happy to answer any of your more specific questions! If you aren't within driving distance, have no fear! I've previously used a shipping company called High End Transport based in Florida with great success. Pricing has always been more than fair. I can provide you a phone number to get a more accurate quote! |

Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]
Fri, 25 Jan 2013The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?

Performance cars overpower the Detroit Auto Show
Tue, Jan 13 2015At precisely the stroke of noon on Monday, the 2016 Acura NSX rolled on stage at the Detroit Auto Show amid plumes of smoke and dancing lights. The sounds of the powerful engine revving soared to the rafters. It was the second coming of Acura's iconic sports car, and the reveal had all of the expected trappings. Afterwards, champagne corks popped and the bubbly flowed. It was noon in Detroit, but for the green-car movement, it seemed like the clock had struck midnight. That's an exaggeration, but performance was the overwhelming theme of North America's most important show. Ford – which has helped lead the way in smaller displacement engines and early adoption of hybrid powertrains – had more than 1,500 horsepower on stage one point after it revealed the GT concept, the new F-150 Raptor and the Shelby Mustang GT350R. The NSX is technically a hybrid (it has three electric motors), but with 550-plus hp, there's no doubt this Acura was bred on the track. The theme continued throughout the show at nearly every stand. Alfa Romeo showed off the 4C Spider, which is the open-air version of a car that purports to be the spiritual successor of the high-performance 33 Stradale from 1967. On Tuesday, Cadillac is scheduled to reveal the 640-hp CTS-V with the V8 transplanted from the Corvette Z06, and the Lexus was expected to roll out its own V8-powered beast, the 467-hp GS F. For enthusiasts – especially enthusiasts with money – these are halcyon days. But make no mistake, all of this power has a purpose. Ford product chief Raj Nair said the Blue Oval uses high performance cars to develop technologies, like aerodynamics and materials, which are then shared across its lineup. "It's another proof point about how serious we are in developing innovation through performance," he said. Ford, which is rolling out at least 12 performance cars by 2020, said the sporty cars attract younger and more influential buyers to its fold, which can help burnish its image beyond adding sales volume. Toyota is taking a similar approach, senior vice president Bob Carter said, noting the Lexus RC coupe draws people into showrooms and gets them excited about the brand, even if they don't end up buying one. "They provide an aspiration and a halo that provides the attention that gets you noticed in a cluttered market," he said.
Recharge Wrap-up: Ford HQ gets giant solar array, Chevy City Express gets 24 MPG city
Sat, Aug 16 2014Ford will be building Michigan's largest solar array at its Dearborn headquarters. With funding from DTE Energy, the solar carport will provide covered parking, as well 30 charging stations for electric vehicles. The array is expected to generate 1.13 million kWh per year for Ford's operations, and offset 794 metric tons of carbon emissions. Read more in the press release below. Chevrolet announced the fuel economy for the 2015 City Express, at 25 mpg combined. The cargo van is rated at 24 mpg in the city, and 26 mpg on the highway. Chevy credits the van's inline four-cylinder engine and continuously variable transmission for its impressive city mileage. For its customers - which are mainly businesses - "The fuel economy of the City Express will help stretch their dollar at the pump and give them the flexibility to invest the savings back into their business," says Chevrolet's Ed Peper. The City Express starts at $22,950. Read more in the press release below. Engineers at the University of Wisconsin have developed an efficient engine that runs on a diesel-gas blend. The engine, which uses a computer to control the blend proportions, is about 15 percent more efficient than the any diesel engine according to mechanical engineering professor Rolf Reitz. The team has put the experimental reactivity controlled compression ignition (RCCI) engine in a demonstration car - a 2009 Saturn. "This vehicle can do 50 miles per gallon," says Reitz, who believes the system could be improved further. Read more at Wisconsin Public Radio. The Southeast Alternative Fuel Conference and Expo will take place in October in Raleigh, North Carolina. Held at the NC Clean Energy Technology Center from October 22-24, the event will feature a variety of exhibitors, speakers and, most importantly, alternatively powered vehicles. "The three day conference will be a one-stop shop for fleet and transportation related decision makers to learn about return on investment, efficiency and alternative transportation fuels such as biodiesel, electricity, ethanol, propane and natural gas," says Anne Tazewell of the NC Clean Energy Technology Center. If you can't make it to Raleigh for the Expo, you can still enter to win a free two-year lease of a Nissan Leaf at the Center's website. Learn more about the event in the press release, below.
