Hi!

My name is Tom and I am a supporter and original member of a wonderful non-profit charity called Buyers and Builders Meet and Greet (BBOMG). We first got together in November 2009 to show appreciation to General Motors employees who built the Camaro. The first year showing was approximately 50 participants and 40 cars and participants came from as far away as Missouri to Alberta.

How it all began...
BBOMG had one goal - get the buyers of the Camaro in touch with the employees who built them. The first year, nobody was certain the future of GM or the Camaro and I felt a need, a calling.  For me to attend such an event was a first. I wasn't one of "those guys" who took time out of his week to participate in events...particularly for or about a car. I chose to go after having owned my Camaro for 6 months and was impressed with every aspect. I chose to go because I believed then, as I do now, that I made an awesome investment. I wanted to meet the men and women at the Oshawa plant who built my Camaro. I wanted to shake their hands and attending was an experience I will never forget.

Since it's inception, BBOMG has grown from those 50 people to well over 450. Our main goal is giving back to the local community who hosts our events. Big Brothers and Big sisters of Oshawa/Whitby and St. Catherines, Ontario has received approximately $40,000 over the past 4 events. This year, BBOMG is headed to Detroit for its 5th year to show appreciation and tour the birthplace of the automobile....and of course, the Woodward Dream Cruise.

BBOMG contributes 100% of every penny raised from the charity dinner and the auctions to Big Brothers and Big Sisters. 100% of all proceeds are donated. Wonderful donations from local businesses, GM, local GM dealers and personal contributions are bid on or are raffled. In the past, BBOMG has received support and donations from Nurse Chevrolet, Martinrea, Camaro Z/28.com, Modern Camaro, Classic Chevrolet, Sparta Chevrolet, Newman Chevrolet. You can find all the details at BBOMG dot com.

So now to the personal aspect of the story...
I was talking to my friend Michael earlier this month about the new 2014 Camaro. I was mentioning to him that I was thinking about trading in my Camaro, a car I never thought I would ever sell for any reason...or another Camaro. I told him I wanted to trade for a 2014 1LE in Inferno Orange and he said, "Um..by the way, GM is discontinuing the Inferno Orange Metallic paint after 2013."  In disbelief, I said a few choice words and had to check for myself. Disappointed, a feverish search began and after a week and a half of searching, I found the IOM Camaro that would replace her. The catch? The trade in value is $4000 less than the private party value. Thus I began to think...and think.

Soon after I took delivery of my Camaro, Mike Judge, a General Motors Oshawa plant employee presented me with an Inferno Orange VIN specific lithograph that has been prominently displayed in my house and cherished greatly. This lithograph was awarded to Camaro enthusiasts who he believed were great ambassadors for the Camaro. What is so special about this litho? It just happens to have the signatures of the very men and women who built the Camaro in this auction - something that is not only rare and limited, but something which will only be more valuable as the years pass. I couldn't trade in MY Camaro and keep the litho...why? It belongs with the car and it would only be selfish of me not to pass it along. I informed Mike Judge of my plan to sell the Camaro with the litho and was ecstatic to receive his blessing.

I have made life-long friendships because of this VERY Camaro. Wonderful people who have given so much of their time and effort in order to foster better relationships between young men and women willing to donate their time to children who need mentoring. Thus comes the circular aspect of this auction. I became a better person because of a car because I have seen so many people believe in others all brought together because of this car. While it is bittersweet to see my Camaro go to a new owner, I believe a torch needs to be passed. I have valued every mile, every friendship and every smile from the children I have taken for rides and I find myself wanting to pass along something that has made me smile more than most things.  And not just because it is a car but because of the friendships I have made during the past 5 years. I sincerely hope this car can pass this same magic to the new owner.

I could have taken the easy (and financially beneficial) route and trade the car in or sell private party but I believe wholeheartedly the lithograph, the charity, the people and the story will push this Camaro over my reserve price, however slight that may be. I am choosing to incur expense to ensure the buyer gets this Camaro in the best condition possible. I do not want you to be disappointed at all. I will do the best I can to represent as best as possible.

With the purchase, you will get every piece of paper, build sheet, window sticker, purchase agreement, XM please come back letter and key fobs as I always intended this car to be collector car material someday.

Now to the car...
  • She is a custom ordered R6P 2010 Camaro 2SS LS3 6 speed with RS package, upgraded Inferno Orange interior, Inferno Orange engine cover, black hood stripe option and grey car cover (never used)
  • She has only 20,100 miles on the odometer. Never been smoked in, never been intentionally driven in rain. NEVER seen snow or salt. Faithfully garaged from November to January.
  • The front tires are original with 6/32 left the rear tires were replaced last September with 19,200 miles on the odometer. Original rear tires I still have with 4/32 left. I also have an NOS set of stock Pirelli P-Zero fronts that go with car.
  • I did change the stock shifter to a Hurst short throw and have the original shifter in the Hurst box.
  • Window tint was done in 2009 and is 15% rear and sides and 30% door glass. The original as delivered engine cover comes with in the GM box the IOM cover was in.
  • As far as maintenance, I have changed the oil 4 times since I have owned her. Once at break in with 889 on the odometer with supporting Blackstone labs oil analysis report. Since then the oil was changed at 4500, 9800 and 15,400 miles. She is due and will receive Mobil1 5w30 and Mobil1 filter prior to delivery. The air filter will be changed as well.
  • At my expense, my Camaro will be delivered to a local GM dealer to be gone over as any dealer would prior to placing on the lot for sale.
  • My reserve is $26,000 which is $4,200 less than NADA and Kelly Blue Book value.

This is where I hope my story will make a difference. EVERY penny over $26,000 will be donated to Big Brothers and Big Sisters BBOMG charity on August 18th 2013 in the names of the most dedicated men and women in Michigan- Detroit Police, Fire and EMS.

Here's your opportunity to buy a well maintained car and make a difference in the life of a child.

Good luck to all and happy bidding!

Junkyard Gem: 1980 Chevrolet LUV Mikado

Sat, Oct 9 2021

During the 1970s and into the 1980s, each member of the Detroit Big Three imported Japanese small pickups and sold them with Ford (Mazda Proceed), Dodge/Plymouth (Mitsubishi Forte), or Chevrolet (Isuzu Faster) badges here. Ford developed the Ranger and killed the Courier for 1983 (though Americans could still buy the Mazda-badged version all the way through 1993), while The General axed the LUV after the S-10 debuted in the 1982 model year. Isuzu sold the same truck as the P'up through 1987, though, and we might as well follow up our recent P'up Junkyard Gem with its LUV predecessor. LUV stood for Light Utility Vehicle, and I've managed to spot a handful in the boneyards over the years. This one now resides in a yard in northeastern Colorado. The Mikado trim package included striped seat upholstery and a sporty steering wheel, plus these cool dash badges. As far as I can tell, no LUV Mikado advertising featured any Gilbert and Sullivan tunes. This one is fairly rusty for Front Range Colorado, and it has endured a bed swap from some other small truck. The engine is the 75-horse Isuzu 1.8-liter. Members of this engine family went into everything from Chevy Chevettes to Isuzu Troopers in the United States. Very unusually for a small pickup during the Malaise Era, this one has a luxurious automatic transmission. Acceleration must have been a leisurely affair in this truck. Air conditioning? Unheard of! Someone stuck every one of their lunchtime apple stickers on the driver's door. After 41 years of work, this truck is done. Come on strong in a LUV of your own!

This is your 2014 Chevrolet SS

Sat, 16 Feb 2013

Think you've waited long enough for this? If so, then you'll want to savor the high-res photos we've so far been given of the 2014 Chevrolet SS, the first rear-wheel-drive performance sedan from The Bowtie in 17 years.
We all know its our version of the brand new VF-model Holden Commodore, but what's under the hood that earns the appellation "performance?" A 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine producing 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. That's 35 hp and lb-ft less than the same engine is expected to produce in the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. Chevrolet says the sedan will get from 0-to-60 miles per hour "in about five seconds."
Shifting comes courtesy of a six-speed automatic with paddles on the steering wheel, while stopping arrive via four-piston Brembo calipers up front, a single sliding piston in back. The forged aluminum wheels are 19-inchers all around, each set supporting right around 50 percent of the sedan's weight, and the aluminum hood and trunk are meant to keep the center of gravity low.

New Corvette Feature Keeps An Eye On Valets

Wed, Aug 20 2014

Face it. If you own a luxury or sports car, whenever you hand the keys to a valet, you imagine the car going on a high-speed joyride like the Ferrari in the 1980s cult movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." Now, General Motors has an option on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette that takes those worries away. The latest version of the sports car, due out in September, has a feature that records where the car goes with a camera mounted in the windshield trim. It also captures audio in the cabin as well as speed, engine revolutions per minute, gear position and G-force. That all helps the car tattle on any valet who doesn't take a slow, direct route to a parking space. GM says it's the most extensive attempt by an automaker to thwart valet joyriders, although it's not the first. The automotive website Edmunds.com says Hyundai and Mercedes offer "geofencing," a feature that sets a perimeter and then notifies the owner's smart phone if a car goes beyond it. Chrysler has a valet mode that caps engine speed and horsepower, while Audi lets owners limit engine speed for valets. With the Corvette, once the owner activates the feature with a four-digit code, the touch screen tells the driver it's in Valet Mode. But it doesn't warn the valet that he's being recorded. The feature also locks the glove box and a storage compartment in the dashboard and shuts down the infotainment system. Valet Mode started off as a performance data recorder for those who take their Corvettes on the racetrack. GM engineers quickly figured out that it had more uses. "Think of it as a baby monitor for your car," Corvette Product Manager Harlan Charles said in a statement. "Anyone who has felt apprehension about handing over their keys will appreciate the peace of mind of knowing exactly what happened while their baby was out of sight." Data and video from the valet mode can be viewed instantly by the owner on the car's 8-inch color screen when the car is parked, or it can be downloaded to a computer. The system could go into more mainstream models if feedback is good on the Corvette, GM spokesman Monte Doran said. The feature is paired with a navigation system and costs $1,795. A 2015 Corvette starts at just under $54,000. Chevrolet Technology Gadgets
