1986 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc Z28 on 2040-cars
Huntley, Illinois, United States
This Iroc-Z was the loaded Camaro of its time. It originally came with the 5.0 V8 (F). I believe I am the 3rd owner. I bought the car in 2002. At that time the owner had bought a BRE 383 Stroker crate motor (approx. $5,000). He started a family and had to sell so I bought it and invested a lot of money in finishing off the build. The biggest cost was installing a fully laptop tunable Accel 6.0 DFI Engine Management System. Several years ago a rod broke and I had the motor fully rebuilt. I changed careers and didn’t even pull it out (other than occasional starts) for a couple years there to save money but it only has about 2,500 miles on it since the rebuild. I am currently driving it and I baby it. I would guess it hasn’t been over 70 mph since the rebuild. New performance heads were added during the rebuild and the engine builder estimated the motor setup should make around 500 horse. Moreover, torque is really what this motor is known for. I have not dyno tested it however. I do know simply with street tires I cannot hook up the power without easing on the pedal; it can also spin the tires easy upon shifting around 50 mph. It’s an absolute monster and has the complete quality sound of a well-built muscle car from idle to cruising. As you can tell from the pictures the paint looks great. The previous owner had it repainted and you can see there are no black lines around the bottom of the car like many Irocs, and I think it looks so much sharper.
It’s a very tough decision to sell since I think of the work and money that went into making it run so strong and clean as it does now. However I’ve wanted to also experience other vehicles and can’t without money from this car. I am looking to get a 47-53 pickup and would be open to such trades.
Issues: There is minor/surface rust as seen in the pics in small areas under the hood, hatch, and inside bottom of the doors. I sprayed these with rust stop and have garaged/stored the car so the rust hasn’t really changed at all in the 12 years I’ve had it. It could easily be repaired if you wanted to spend time on it. Other minor things that are cheap fixes that I just haven’t had time to do: Needs new wire or connecter for wipers as they shut off but sometimes it takes many turns to get it, headlights take a couple times to shut off, gear selector indicator can stick and doesn’t always show what gear you are in, psgr door lock works but seems a little tired, dash is in perfect shape except one corner (see pic). Steering wheel could use a rewrap.
I will list some of the mods but there are too many to list everything. I have tons of receipts. My guess is the spending on upgrades/rebuilds alone is $20,000. I have original parts including the original red seats (faded but no tears), a/c, and extra set of T-tops that go with the car. Within last 10,000 miles rebuilt 700R4 transmission. B&M Shift kit B&M ratchet shifter TCS Torque (stall) Converter Tires-2 fronts est. 8-10,000 miles on them, 1 of the rear about 2,000 miles, the other rear unsure but still fine BRE 383 Stoker with all the bells and whistles from pistons, cam, lifters ect…. Edelbrock T.E.S Headers into 3 inch pipe, high flow cat converter, and $$$ Borla exhaust with intercooled tips Edelbrock Hi-Flo TPI Manifold 30lb. fuel injectors BMR 3 point strut tower brace Lakewood adjustable panhard bar SSM subframe connectors Aftermarket rear control trailing arms Bilstein shocks Racing bucket seats Brakes: Front -Wilwood Discs, pads, and 4 piston calipers, Back-New stock discs, pads, rotors in about the last 10,000 miles Pioneer speakers and Pioneer EQ adjustable 4X45wts CD player New black carpet (original carpet was too faded red) New window switches New head liner cover and speaker covers … $500 due immediately upon auction close. Accepted methods of payment are PayPal and cash (no personal checks). If necessary we could meet at a bank for a money order/cashier's check. The car can be picked up/driven away or shipped. You will have to arrange any shipping but I’d be happy to help with it as needed. Feel free to ask me any questions. Thanks for looking!

Chevy Volt has worst sales month since August 2011, Nissan Leaf also down
Tue, Feb 3 2015January is traditionally a time when new car shoppers take a break. For the last few years, if we isolate our focus to just the first two major plug-in cars in the US market, we see that the first month of the year was lower – often dramatically lower – than the 11 that followed. So, when you see the Chevy Volt dropped and Nissan Leaf sales figures for January 2015, don't be too surprised. The Volt sold only 542 units last month, that model's lowest since August 2011. That also represents a 41 percent drop from January 2014, and it reinforces the thought that if anyone out there is interested in a new Volt, they're going to be waiting for the new model to drop later this year. While we do expect sales to climb in February and into spring, we won't be surprised if the general Volt trend remains quiet until the second-generation arrives. On the Leaf side of the ledger, January's low sales numbers were still about twice as high as the Volt's – the Leaf sold 1,070 units last month, the lowest since February 2013 – but it did break a streak for the Japanese automaker. Usually, each month represents at least an increase over the same month a year ago, but that wasn't the case this time. In January 2014, Nissan sold 1,252 Leafs. Still, Brendan Jones, Nissan's director of electric vehicle sales and infrastructure, issued an upbeat statement: "We saw a significant increase in demand in December from Nissan Leaf customers looking to take advantage of federal and state incentives at the end of the tax year, which pulled some sales ahead. We're confident that EV sales will continue to rise over time due to increasing emission regulations and other reasons for purchase of EVs such as lower operating costs, reducing dependence on foreign energy sources, environmental concerns and a great driving experience." The numbers will tell us soon enough. News Source: General Motors, Nissan Green Chevrolet Nissan Electric Hybrid ev sales brendan jones
GM struggles to sell small cars, plans to lay off 2,084 employees at two plants
Thu, Nov 10 2016Due to low demand for some of its vehicles, General Motors plans to cut 2,084 jobs at its assembly plants in Lordstown, OH and Lansing, MI. At the same time, the automaker also announced plans to invest approximately $900 million in three of its facilities – the Toledo Transmission Operations in Ohio, Bedford Casting Operations in Indiana, and Lansing Grand River in Michigan - for future products. GM will discontinue the third shift at both the Lansing Grand River plant and the Lordstown, OH plant. The Cadillac ATS, Cadillac CTS, and Chevrolet Camaro are made at the automaker's plant in Michigan, which currently has 2,700 employees. The move to eliminate the third shift affects 810 hourly workers, as well as 29 salaried employees, starting on January 16th. The plant in Lordstown, OH currently has 4,500 employees and makes the Chevrolet Cruze sedan. The plan to discontinue the third shift will affect 43 salaried workers and 1,202 hourly employees and will start on January 23rd. As Fortune points out, sales of the Cruze are down 20 percent through October, while sales of the Cadillac ATS and CTS were down 17 percent through the same period of time. In addition to cutting the third shift at both assembly plants, the automaker plans to invest a total of $900 million between three of its facilities for unnamed future products. GM's Toledo Transmission Operations will receive $667.6 million, the Lansing Grand River Assembly plant will receive $211 million, and the automaker's Bedford Casting Operations will get $37 million. Last year, GM cut roughly 500 jobs from its Orion Township factory due to slow sales of the Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Verano, with surging crossover and SUV sales as the most likely culprit. With GM posting much healthier sales figures for the Chevrolet Equinox and Cadillac XT5 compared to the ATS, CTS, and Cruze, it looks like compact SUVs are to blame for this year's layoffs as well. Chevrolet planning low-cost Corvette under Stingray?
Wed, 27 Feb 2013If you're burnt out on musings about the Chevrolet Corvette, you'll want to go ahead and skip this post. Motor Trend reports General Motors is hard at work on a low-cost version of the seventh-generation sports car for 2015. Rumored to be called the Corvette Coupe, the car will forgo the Stingray and skip the 450-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine in favor of a 5.3-liter V8 with under 400 ponies. If you're keeping track, that's a shade of the same engine found behind the headlights of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
The report also suggests the Coupe will receive a number of aesthetic tweaks to separate it from the Stingray, including different front and rear fascias as well as new front fenders and a rear diffuser. Motor Trend says the point of all this is to cut the car's price tag, which means we may see a Corvette on showroom floors for less than $50,000 if this car comes to fruition.
