Up for sale is this very fun, customized, Mad Maxian 83 Chevy Camaro.  I've had this car for 3 years and it has been a blast.  I need more room in the garage and so now its time to let the baby go.  I bought this car to race autocrosses with, not knowing really what autocrosses were all about, so I decided to track down a car from my youth.  I had no idea that a stock 30 year old car wasn't really the best choice.  More on that later. This was a Michigan car and in surprising great condition considering the kind of winters Michigan gets.  Virtually rust free. Got it home and did my first autocross.  That's when the Camaro began to change.

For those of you who don't know what autocrosses are, its basically a big go-kart track made out of cones in a parking lot.  You drive through the course as fast as you can without hitting any cones.  Immensly fun considering you never go more than 45 mph.  This is where I learned that my Camaro was not as up to the task of an autocross as say, a Miata.  Thus my adventure began with one goal.  Go faster and turn better.  Here's a list of the changes:

Interior
Gutted the interior.
Took apart the dash and removed all duct work.
Removed heat exchanger.
Removed seats.
New GT steering wheel.
New Sunpro temp gauge.
New Sunpro boost gauge (there is no turbo-I just like dials)
Installed green indicator light for electric fans.
Removed AC and heating control panel.
Removed radio.
Installed racing seat.
Installed 4 point harness.
Painted interior black.

Exterior/engine
Painted the car black using the "wet look". Very unique. Kind of feels like rhino liner.  Appears matte black.  Confuses everyone who looks at it.
Swapped out stock headlights for round ones.
16" 84 Corvette rims with 265/45ZR16 tires all around. A bit bald.
2.75in wheel spacers to accomodate the corvette tires.
Installed lowering springs all around - approx 2in drop.
New adjustable Summit Racing shocks in the rear.
New gas filled struts in the front.
New ball joints.
New poly steering bushings.
New steering gearbox fast ratio.
New steering shaft with no rag joint (custom aftermarket)
New radiator.
New transmission cooler.
New subframe connectors installed (bolt-in).
2 New electric fans - 10 and 14in I believe.
New Wonderbar in addition to front anti-sway bar (old).
Removed mechanical engine fan.
Removed A/C system.
Removed windshield wiper container.
New distributor cap.
New wires.
New 165 degree thermostat installed.
New thermostat sensor installed.
Disconnected computer.
Installed new plugs this year.
New carb hat.
Custom cold air intake with washable Spectre cone filter.
Custom exhaust headers with no catalytic converter 2.25in half pipe half flex pipe going to single cherry bomb.
New rear anti-sway bar.
Changed rear differential fluid and seal.

I believe that's all.  Alot of blood sweat and beers went into this puppy.  It's not for everybody as its obviously been played with a lot by me as well as the previous owner.  I didn't do much to the engine really.  Changed the oil a bunch, always used conventional.  Always ran premium gas.  Transmission fluid has been drained and refilled since I've had it as well as the coolant.  New brake fluid. I've only put 1896 miles on the car so its been babied really.  Someone before me did an engine swap.  350's weren't offered in 83.  I believe a rebuilt 1980 truck engine was dropped in (thats all I could find out based on engine codes). Someone else also did the cat removal.  Other than that when I got it, it was pretty much stock.

Its a blast to drive.  Burnouts are no problem (only one tire though).  Loud, strong pull, solid shifting. Steering has been greatly improved. Virtually no body roll.  Very fun at autocross now!
Comes with a few extras:

Original set of berlinetta rims.
New set of brake pads.
A muffler I used for a little while.
An extra cherry bomb - had both running one year but it was too loud!
Spare tire.

Great project car.  Could be good for true racing - throw a roll cage in there.  Feel free to ask any questions - I will do my best to answer them.  No warranties - No returns!
A $250 - Deposit is required within 48 hours of the close of auction.  Buyer will have 7 days to pickup or remove the vehicle. Car is listed locally. I reserve the right to close the auction early if it sells.

Recharge Wrap-up: EVs poll well in Portland, Tesla seeks office space

Tue, Aug 5 2014

In a poll of drivers in Portland, more than 80 percent said they would be driving an EV in the next 10 years if they weren't already. The poll was small and not scientific, with just 218 votes cast, but it does reflect a slice of a certain population with changing attitudes toward electric mobility, and 80 percent is an impressive figure. Additionally, 43 percent of respondents planned to have an EV in the next five years, and only 18 percent said they prefer gasoline-powered vehicles. With EVs in many ways repeating the adoption process that hybrids went through a decade ago, the five- or ten-year timeframe for more widespread use seems only natural. Read more at the Portland Business Journal. San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee parks like an idiot, or rather, his security detail does. His Chevrolet Volt has been ticketed for parking six times since he took office. Granted, those street-sweeping signs are tough to keep track of, but his car has been photographed blocking at a bus stop while grabbing a burrito (who hasn't sinned in the name of a delicious burrito?), and was even caught parked in a crosswalk. The tickets were all dismissed. Read more from the SF Gate. Tesla is looking for office space in Silicon Valley. As the electric car company continues to search for a place to build its $4- to $5-billion battery Gigafactory, it also needs some real estate to expand its operations near its Palo Alto home. Tesla has expanded from 3,000 to 6,000 California-based employees since the end of 2012, and plans to add 500 more by the end of the year. It is currently looking for 200,000 to 300,000 square feet of office space close to its Fremont factory, according to sources in the real estate industry. Recharge Wrap-up: Ford steals Best Green Brand spot from Toyota, EV buyer survey goes online

Wed, Jun 25 2014

Chevrolet is one of the Top Global Green Brands of 2014, according to brand consultancy firm Interbrand. Chevy ranks number 32 on the list, which cover brands across a wide variety of segments. The report measures brand perception and brand performance, and the gap between the two is small for Chevrolet. "The company is not only actively demonstrating its environmental commitment," says Interbrand CEO Jez Frampton. "It's communicating those efforts in an authentic way that resonates with customers." Chevrolet cites its Spark EV, Volt and Cruze models as reason for its green cred. This is the first time Toyota didn't take the top spot. Being 32nd is good and all, but other automotive brands ranked much higher than the Bowtie. Ford, Toyota, Honda and Nissan took the top four spots in the report, respectively, with BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz all besting Chevrolet. The big takeaway here is that Ford topped the list. In the Top Global Green Brand list's four-year history, this is the first time Toyota didn't take the top spot. Ford was second on the list last year, and 15th in 2012. "Ford embodies everything the business of the future must be: efficient, visionary, flexible, adept at problem-solving, cooperative, and focused on creating shared value," Interbrand says on its website. "From unveiling a first-of-its-kind solar-powered vehicle, the C-MAX Solar Energi Concept, to partnering with peers across sectors to do the seemingly impossible - like creating bio-plastic out of tomato fiber with Heinz-Ford is showing us what's possible." It bears mentioning that Ford's most recent MPG adjustments came after the study was conducted. Ford is also making the news for its 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine earning International Engine of the Year for the third straight year. Awarded Best Engine Under 1.0 Liter, the turbocharged three-cylinder motor earned high praise from judges. "This year's competition was the fiercest yet, but the 1.0-liter EcoBoost continues to stand out for all the right reasons – great refinement, surprising flexibility and excellent efficiency," said International Engine of the Year co-chairman Dean Slavnich. "The 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine is one of the finest examples of powertrain engineering." The 123-horsepower engine powers the Fiesta 1.0-liter EcoBoost, and will be available in a version of the Ford Focus in the US later this year. See more about the award in the press release, below.

Supercharged 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 takes the C7 beyond the ZR1

Mon, 13 Jan 2014

The Z06 is just about everything we got in the last ZR1, but better.
After a bright-yellow false start, here is the real thing: the fourth-generation, 2015 Corvette Z06. If Chevrolet makes a ZR1 version of the C7 Corvette, it's going to be absolutely mega, because the Z06 is just about everything we got in the last ZR1, but better.
