Up for sale is a beautiful example of a very nice 1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. I restored this car for my neighbor and he's been keeping it at my house.  I've run out of room in my garage, so I've convinced him to sell it. You would be lucky to find a nicer Camaro at this price point. This car is a real Z28 (this is a California built car, these do not have the Z28 stamp on the trim tag under the hood like the Norwood cars do, so it is important to have the build sheet on any CA built car).  During the rebuild earlier this year, I found the build sheet on top of the gas tank.  While it is a little toasty, you can clearly see the option code "Z28"). The trim tag verfies the car was red from the factory with factory carmine red interior. This car has been restored over the past 5 years. This included swapping in a GM Performance crate 350. According to the buildsheet the car was build in CA and sent to Kelly Walker Chevrolet near Jacksonville, FL. The body of the car is rust-free, though there is a small bubble in the paint on top of the drivers fender. Another benefit is that this is a HARDTOP car! No worrying about leaking T-Tops. The car reads 60,888 miles.  Based on the condition, this could be original mileage, but I hav no way to know for sure.  The following list details the specifics of the car:

Car has been repainted within the past 5 years (by prior owner).  The paint job is very nice, but not perfect. Overall this car is a 8 or 9 out of ten. It is a great driver/ car show cruiser. It is not a perfect car and I am not advertising it that way. Please feel free to ask me any questions you have about the car. We are happy to show the car. We have the clear GA title in our possession. Below I have attached a VIN decoder for the car:

Vehicle Identification Decoder: 1P87LAL501756

  • First digit is GM Division: 1 = Chevrolet
  • Second digit is model: P = Sport, Rally Sport, Z28, S = Berlinetta
  • Digits 3 & 4 are body type: 87 = 2dr. coupe
  • Fifth digit is engine code: A = 231ci V6, H = 305ci V8, J = 267ci V8, K = 229ci V6, L = 350ci V8.
  • Sixth digit is model year: A = 1980
  • Seventh digit is N for Norwood assembly, L for Van Nuys.
  • Last six digits increased one with each car built at each plant.
  •

Very reasonable reserve has been set on the car.  You could not purchase and build a nicer car for the cost.

Question of the Day: Worst year of the Malaise Era?

    Thu, Jun 23 2016

The Malaise Era for cars in the United States spanned the 1973 through 1983 model years, and featured such abominations as a Corvette with just 205 horsepower (from the optional engine!) and MGBs with suspensions jacked way up to meet new headlight-height requirements. There were many low points throughout this gloomy period, of course. The horrifyingly low power and fuel-economy numbers for big V8s during the middle years of the Malaise Era make a strong case for 1974 or 1975— the years of Nixon's resignation and the Fall of Saigon, respectively— as the most Malaisey years. But then the GM-pummeling debacles of the Chevy Citation and Cadillac Cimarron could make an early-1980s year the low point. 1979, the year of the ignominious Chrysler bailout? You choose! Hot Wheels Camaro to make big debut at Indy

    Fri, 05 Apr 2013

Chevrolet handed over the keys to 33 Hot Wheels Camaro Convertible Indianapolis 500 festival cars this week. Race directors get the luxury of driving the droptops around Indianapolis in an ongoing tradition with roots all the way back to the 1960s. The stunt is supposed to remind area residents that the Indy 500 is right around the corner. The cars are our first look at the special Camaro Hot Wheels Edition in convertible form, and they are slated to head to dealers after a one-time production run. The cars also represent the first time in history full-size Hot Wheels have been offered for sale by an automaker.
The cars will be available in both the previously seen coupe bodystyle and this convertible configuration, and will feature metallic blue paint and special wheels with the iconic redline accent. Buyers will be able to choose between the V6-powered 2LT trim and the V8-powered 2SS guise.
Hot Wheels says the original Custom Camaro toy was one of the original 16 1:64-scale diecasts, and it remains one of the company's most valuable collector items today.

Watch this creative way to pull a truck's engine

    Fri, 08 Mar 2013

Living in an apartment complex has its benefits, but for shade-tree mechanics who like/need to work on their own cars, it definitely has a number of disadvantages. Relatively simple tasks such as brake jobs and oil changes are difficult when you don't have dedicated driveway space, to say nothing of more in-depth repairs... like pulling an engine, for example.
For these types of challenges, a little ingenuity and plenty of muscle are needed to get the job done. Scroll down to watch these four men snatch the V8 out of a Chevrolet K1500 using nothing but a chain, landscape timber and good ol' fashioned brute strength. Good work, gentlemen.
