Up for auction is a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro.  The VIN number is 1Q87L9L512484 and it is registered with the state via antique vehicle plates.  The Camaro runs and drives, though it is still a project and will need some time and effort to take this vehicle to the next level.  It has fairly fresh paint and looks very nice, though it does have a couple scratches in the paint.  The floor pans are rust free and there is very little surface rust on the inside of the trunk pan.  (...though it is solid and requires little to no attention)  It has a V8 motor...assume it is a 305 but could be a 350 and it has a TH350 automatic transmission.  The tires are fairly new and it has a custom (L88??) fiberglass hood.  I've had the car for a while and now have my eye on another project.  I've done a little work to the interior but primarily drive this car on the weekends....car shows, local drive-in, etc.  I would feel very comfortable driving the car 200-300 miles, but might want a trailer if I was going much further than 300 miles.  Overall, it is a fun antique car and should provide years of fun and entertainment to its new owner.  The mileage is unknown...assume the 87K on the odometer is actually 187K.

The Good: Virtually rust free car, nice paint job, clear title, nice centerline rims, air shocks in the rear, sounds good (flowmasters dumped at rear end), tinted windows, fairly dependable...haven't been stranded yet.  Otherwise, it appears to be fairly close to stock.  It does have an old ignition box in the engine compartment, though it is not hooked up.  It appears as if the paint was done right...all door and trunk jams were painted, etc.  I have videos of the vehicle running in a parking lot as well as videos of this car on the road.  (taken from driver perspective)

The Bad: 1) Leaks a little oil and transmission fluid, 2) runs rough at times, though not consistently, 3) Shifter need adjustment/tuning, no radio, interior is incomplete: no door panels, no console, no carpet/insulation, heater box and blower motor is missing, couple scratches in paint, driver door lock works but plastic piece used to hold mechanism is broken, no headliner, speedometer needle is broken (speedo does work) horn doesn't work, window tint is not perfect, etc.  It runs rough occasionally and smokes when it is running rough..only occurs intermittently...I assumed the carb (quadrajet) needs a rebuild, though I am not a mechanic.  It hasn't given me any real trouble and is fun to drive as it is.

Terms: Unless other terms are discussed and agreed upon prior to bidding, full payment must be received within 10 days of auction close and vehicle must be picked up within three weeks of auction close.  Vehicle is available for inspection by serious potential bidders by appointment in the Rockwall, TX area.  (30-40 minutes east of Dallas)  Seller will work with your shipping company and may be willing to pick buyer up at Dallas airport, assuming details/schedules are discussed and agreed upon in advance.  Vehicle is also for sale locally and seller reserves the right to end the auction if vehicle is sold to a local buyer.  There is no warranty with this vehicle, either expressed or implied.  This car is more than thirty years old.  Seller will NOT release vehicle to buyers shipping agent until full payment has been received AND cleared.  A nonrefundable Paypal deposit is required within 48 hours of auction close.

Hurst Edition Trans Am proves the Screaming Chicken will rise from the ashes

Wed, 31 Oct 2012

It seems the Pontiac Trans Am steadfastly refuses to die. Ever since Chevrolet was granted a retrofied Camaro to compete with the Ford Mustang, Pontiac lovers have lamented the loss of this 1970s icon. And, looking at the Hurst Edition from Trans Am Depot, shown here at the 2012 SEMA Show, may explain what all the fuss is about.
It's not going to appeal to everyone's muscle-car tastes, but there's certainly room for a brash-and-bold black-and-gold Special Edition in many a Trans Am lover's garage. After all, if you want the keys to a custom pony car, you'll certainly get noticed in this one. If this scheme isn't your bag,, you can alternatively order your Hurst Edition in white and gold or silver and black. Oh, and don't forget a color-coordinated Screaming Chicken on the hood.
No matter which way you choose to go, your inner Burt Reynolds will appreciate the Eibach suspension kit, forged wheels with Pirelli PZero tires, functional shaker hood, fender air extractors, rear spoiler and, of course, a Hurst shifter inside. The interior is emblazoned with all manner of special touches, including a Hurst dash plate and T/A stitching on the Katzkin two-tone leather seats.

2016 Chevy Volt arrives with 50-mile EV range, 41 mpg [w/ video]

Mon, Jan 12 2015

Let's start with the numbers. The 2016 Chevy Volt will have an all-electric range of 50 miles from a new, 18.4-kWh lithium battery. It will get 41 miles per gallon (combined) once the battery runs dry and have 102 MPGe. Oh, and it has five seats, sort of. To compare, today's four-seat 2015 Volt has a 38-mile range from a 17.1-kWh battery in a powertrain that offers 37 mpg and 98 MPGe. So, across the board, there are notable improvements. Now that that's out of the way, let's talk story. General Motors will unveil the new Volt at the Detroit Auto Show later today, but it's been talking about how this new version – the first major plug-in hybrid vehicle to get a serious redo in the modern era – was crafted with reams and reams of data from first-gen Volt customers. At a preview event for journalists last week, GM executive chief engineer Pam Fletcher told Autoblog that these owners "gave us the recipe" to make the second-gen model. At the top of the request list was more range (check), more "fun-to-drive" behavior (check?) and a smoother and quieter experience (we'll assume a check here, given that the new 1.5-liter four-cylinder – the first North American application of this new engine family – should offer more power with less noise than the previous 1.4-liter, four-cylinder powerplant). Other customer-driven changes in the new Volt include a different place to store the charging cable (in the side of the trunk instead of under the load floor) and a new brake system with improved blended regenerative braking feel as well as driver-selectable regen levels. The requested 50-mile range comes from a new, lighter battery that has increased capacity from fewer cells (192 vs. 288) and a simplified control architecture. Along with the new battery, the electric drive unit is a two-motor deal that is up to 12 percent more efficient and 100 pounds lighter, while also being "tremendously smaller," notes Fletcher. It offers 294 pound-feet of torque and a maximum 149 horsepower of "motoring power" delivered to the wheels. GM says it has worked hard to reduced the amount of rare earth materials in these motors, and one of them doesn't use any at all. The new powertrain offers improved acceleration times, as well. The 2016 Volt can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 8.4 seconds, a seven-percent improvement, while the 0-30 mph time has been improved by 19 percent, down to 2.6 seconds. The new Volt is more conventional looking, but certainly not completely ordinary.

Chevy Camaro is a good sport, wishes Ford Mustang Happy 50th

Tue, 15 Apr 2014

It was 1966 when Chevrolet launched its challenger to the wildly successful Ford Mustang, the Camaro. While the competition between the two brands was already healthy, the arrival of the Camaro set off one of the most intense, model-to-model rivalries in the industry.
That competitive spirit hasn't stopped Chevy and the Camaro from wishing Ford's iconic muscle car a Happy 50th Birthday as the Ford's April 17 anniversary rolls around. These two cars have been linked over the years, and while the rivalry took a break for a few years in the 2000s, today's competition between the Camaro and Mustang is as fierce as it's ever been.
You might recall that this friendliness when it comes to major milestones isn't too rare. Ford put on quite a display for General Motors' hundredth anniversary back in 2008. As the Camaro's fiftieth birthday approaches in 2016, we wouldn't be surprised to see the Mustang sending its best wishes to its Bowtie rival.
