1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 on 2040-cars
Novato, California, United States
If you have any questions feel free to email: loganlllamonda@winetasters.net .
When the car was acquired in 1997, the odometer read 00002 miles (It had been reset to all zeros when the restoration was done). It now has a little over 1800 miles on it.
The original, numbers matching DZ 302 engine has a factory GM cross ram set-up on it, and the correct carburetors were recently rebuilt by Holley. There are two hood/air filter set ups that are included with the car; one of them is pictured on the car (steel cowl hood), and another one (not pictured) which is a fiberglass cowl hood painted to match the car. A large black factory style cross ram air cleaner (with a foam seal) that mates to the underside of that hood is also included. The car is currently running with an electronic ignition "cheater" style distributor (looks stock), but the original dual point distributor is also included. There is also a special GM NOS cross ram cam kit which also goes with the car (last picture).
The 4 speed transmission works flawlessly, but is not believed to be the original transmission. The numbers stamped on right side of the case are: "P9B28A", and "19B361011" for anyone who wants to decode them. There is also another shifter handle / mechanism that is included with the car, too. The 12 bolt axle is 4:11 to 1 Positraction, and I think a second set of gears (3:73) is also included.
The car runs, drives and stops very nicely with no problems to report. It has always been garage kept since the owner acquired it, and fed a diet of high octane fuel. The car has had the heater and radio delete items when the owner got it in 1997, so these are believed to be original GM parts. The interior (carpet/seats/headliner) is in excellent condition with no rips or tears, and all the gauges work like they should. The owner added a tilt steering column to make it more comfortable for him to drive. Interior also features a console with the gauge pack, and a wood grain steering wheel.
The data plate under the hood indicates that this is an original green/green car. I inspected the paint & body work carefully and while it is presentable, it does has a few dings here and there. I also noted areas that appear to be possibly either touch ups or repairs, and I suspect a good color sand and buff would help.
An appraiser was hired to estimate the value of this Z28 for insurance purposes several years, and he pegged the value at over $100k, so I guess he was impressed with it. The report is included with the car, as is some other miscellaneous paperwork. However, no window sticker, build sheet or factory invoice has ever been found. The car was reputedly owned by Reggie Jackson in the 1990's.

LG Chem's troubled Chevy Volt battery plant hiring once again
Thu, Sep 25 2014The Michigan battery plant known for paying its workers to do nothing has turned things around and is now hiring more workers, specifically to do something. South Korea-based LG Chem, which runs the factory to supply the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in vehicle with its lithium-ion batteries, held a job fair recently to bring on 40 new employees in order to meet higher battery demand, according to WZZM, the ABC affiliate for Grand Rapids, MI. The LG Chem factory is in Holland, MI, about 30 miles west of Grand Rapids, and it made its first batteries last year. Prior to that, though, the factory gained notoriety after a US Department of Energy (DOE) probe found that workers there were getting paid to do, well, nothing. That's because demand for the battery packs was so low that it cost less for the plant to sit idle. The DOE was conducting the probe because of its financial grant to LG Chem. But that was then and today is today. LG Chem is looking to ramp up production in advance of the second-generation Volt. That 2016 model-year version is said to have a longer all-electric range and better performance and will ride on a new chassis, but few official details have surfaced. We will know more when we get our first look at the car at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
The story of the 2014 Chevrolet SS: "Luxury, power, refinement, handling"
Thu, 07 Mar 2013Not including the women and men who built it, the 2014 Chevrolet SS has only been seen in person by a piddling number of people - fewer humans than would fill the gymnasium at a high school volleyball game. Not including the men and women who built it, no one has driven it. Even so, it is already saddled with two controversies: the way it looks and the way it shifts.
First to that shifting. Did we love the last Americanized Holden, the awesomely sportsome Pontiac G8 GXP, and its six-speed manual? Of course. Do we wish the SS came with a six-speed manual? Of course. But we'd like a toboggan to come with a manual transmission. We'd put a manual transmission on a weasel if we could because we're just wired that way; if it moves, it should come with a stick and a clutch. Or at least the option.
Let's climb down off the ledge, though. We haven't driven the SS and we have no idea how good (or not) the automatic is. And the Hobson's Choice in transmissions when it comes to sport sedans like the BMW M5, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and Jaguar XFR-S and, oh yeah, cars-that-really-should-have-manuals like the Audi R8 and Nissan GT-R and Porsche 918 and every single Lamborghini and Ferrari, for instance, hasn't stopped us from enjoying what is clearly the gruesome, dual-clutched demise of Western automotive civilization. Because in spite of our ululations at the dying of the six-speed light, we understand.
CNG-powered Chevy Sonic, Cruze headed your way
Fri, Nov 7 2014The value proposition for a Crazy Diamond Performance CNG ride was a little bit better before gas prices took a dive in the past month. Still, the Michigan-based company, which converts some of Chevrolet's compact vehicles to run on compressed natural gas, received approval late last month from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for two of its conversion models. And CNG is still pretty cheap. Crazy Diamond will start selling CNG versions of both the Chevrolet Cruze and Chevrolet Sonic. The startup will target fleet operators looking to cut both refueling costs and their carbon footprint. CNG can be found in much of the country in the low $2 range, while the average CO2 emissions are about 25 percent less than those of similar gas-powered vehicles. Average gas prices have tumbled by more than 30 cents a gallon in the last month, according to AAA, but they're still at close to $3. The two models will be able to go almost 300 miles on a full tank of CNG. Crazy Diamond said this summer that it would start selling converted a CNG-powered Cruze that delivers 130 horsepower for as low as $26,000. The turbocharged version goes for about $28,000. Take a look at Crazy Diamond Performance's celebratory press release below. Crazy Diamond Performance recieves EPA approval on its CNG Cruze and Sonic CDP receives EPA approval for its Mono-Fuel CNG Cruze and Sonic. Shelby Township, Michigan, October 30, 2014– Crazy Diamond Performance (CDP) receives EPA approval on its Mono-Fuel Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Chevrolet Cruze and Chevrolet Sonic. Crazy Diamond Performance has received EPA approval on two new mono-fuel small passenger vehicles, the CNG Chevrolet Cruze and CNG Chevrolet Sonic. These new mono-fuel CNG platforms are the first of a series of small and fuel efficient vehicles coming from CDP, where cost, low emissions and reduced fuel consumption is important for not only fleet owners, but to the general public as well. "Soon to be available, are the 1.8L and 1.4L Cruze and Sonic CNG retrofit systems. These two vehicles represent a change in the status quo, with an OEM level integration of the fuel system and its components" states Michelle Fern, Executive Vice President CDP Inc. These vehicles provide flexibility for fleets looking to purchase a domestic small mono-fuel passenger sedan, but have not had an option until now. There are significant emissions benefits over its gasoline counterpart, with an average reduction in Carbon Dioxide (CO2) of 25%.
