This is a great truck. It is 4x4, turbo diesel, dump truck with an 8ft power angle Meyer snow plow. This truck is 12,000 lb GVWR, and has no trouble hauling anything I have ever thrown at it.
I boxed in the stakebed for hauling. The top is hinged so that a front loader can load gravel straight in the top, and then it flips back to cover the top of the box. The truck was primarily used for hauling wood and wood chips cut up by the chipper it towed behind it.
The Good:
Dump Bed is PTO driven (not electric)
Starts and runs well.
Turbo Boost Gauge Installed on A Pillar
Exhaust system upgraded from the turbo back with Diamond Eye Exhaust
This truck can be loaded down and tow to capacity without getting hot (see also the bad)
Has a combination 2" Ball / Pintle Hitch
4X4 Engages properly
Braided Stainless Oil Cooler Lines
Remote Mounted PMD (Below Bumper)
Fluid Damper harmonic balancer
Installed 2 new batteries this winter
Complete new brake lines front an back. ABS Brakes function properly.
The plywood chip box can be unbolted from the stake body dump, and is painted inside and out with 3 coats of premium (Behr) outdoor paint. This is a couple hundred dollars worth of hardware, paint and wood.
Tool storage on the side of the box for rakes, shovel, broom and pitchfork (none of these included)
This chip box is perfect for working in yards, has no trouble passing under power lines to residential housing, but is big enough to hold lots of material.
Bed Size is 9 ft long x 7'6" wide with 4ft tall sides and a hinged top.
THE BAD:
Although the sheetmetal on the truck is good, just as it looks in the pictures, I did a fiberglass repair to the corner of the cab. This is shown in one of the pictures. The truck still looks good, and I was never embarrassed by it on a job site. The fiberglass work is solid & passes inspection, but it isn't pretty.
The back right tail light is zip tied back in place.
The plow is a huge 8 ft wide unit, and tall. It blocks a ton of air. It has no trouble under 45 MPH. Above that speed the starts to get hot with the plow on. It doesn't matter if it is 32 degrees or minus 32 degrees, above 45 plus a hill the temp will start moving higher. I don't know how high it will go, I have never let it boil over, but don't plan on cruising the freeway with the plow on this truck. If that is important to you, you could try a "Plow Flow Master" to allow the truck to go faster with the plow on it, or get a different truck ( or maybe a smaller plow). (see the good: this truck will not overheat on the hottest day of summer fully loaded down... unless you put the plow on the front).
Heater fan only works in the first 4 positions.
There is a seat cover on the bench seat, part of the drivers side is ripped out of the seat. It is not uncomfortable, but it is there.

2014 Chevrolet Silverado tows in new configurator, microsite
Mon, 21 Jan 2013Judging by your continued enthusiastic response to configurator notices, dear reader, you enjoy speccing out new cars as much as we do. Better still, there tends to be even more ways to personalize, configure and bloat theoretical MSRPs on full-size trucks as there are with more ordinary passenger cars. In addition to trim level, engine and transmission choices, truck buyers usually have to specify items like cab configuration, bed length, number of driven axles, tow packages, gear ratios and all sorts of bits and bobs.
That's why we're pleased to see the DIY specification utility for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado come alive so soon after this week's Detroit Auto Show debut. While the configurator lacks pricing (General Motors hasn't announced numbers yet) and full options, you can still spec out your half-ton rig, and even print it out or email it to your friends. Beyond the configurator, the new model-specific site is pretty cool, too, with various videos and closer looks at the truck's new features.
The new Chevrolet pickup range won't be on dealer lots until sometime this summer, so whether you're a building contractor, an avid sportsman or just a guy or gal that loves full-size trucks, you might want to check out the link below to keep your appetite whetted. If you're more of a Sierra fan, well, it looks like you're going to have to wait a while - GMC hasn't updated its site yet.
Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R named Road & Track Performance Car of the Year
Mon, Nov 9 2015With a 526-horsepower, 5.2-liter V8 that roars to 8,250 rpm, it's really hard to consider the 2016 Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R an underdog in any fight. However, the Shelby held the lowest as-tested price and was only middle of the pack in terms of power in Road & Track's 2016 Performance Car of the Year challenge. The 'Stang's numbers clearly didn't tell the whole story about the potent coupe because Ford's muscle car grabbed the title in this year's test. A model needs to be new or significantly updated to be eligible for the honor, and R&T found an impressive slate of eight candidates this year. The challengers included the Bentley Continental GT3-R, Cadillac ATS-V Coupe, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Dodge Viper ACR, Mercedes-AMG GT S, and Porsche Cayman GT4. The Ferrari 488 GTB was the most expensive of the bunch with an as-tested price of $347,942, which is five times more than the Shelby. Once the group was together, R&T hustled them over curving roads and on the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park. There was a lot to love about the Shelby, even in this impressive crew. "With a flat-plane crank and Sport Cup 2 tires, the GT350R is a Mustang turned up to 11," editor-in-chief Larry Webster said in the announcement of the results. The GT350R joins some great company. Past winners include the Porsche 911 GT3 last year and the Corvette in 2013. For some fantastic photography and the complete appraisal of these performance machines check out R&T's website for the full story. Related Video: ROAD & TRACK NAMES THE FORD MUSTANG SHELBY GT350R THE 2016 PERFORMANCE CAR OF THE YEAR New York, NY (November 9, 2015) – Road & Track today named the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R the 2016 Performance Car of the Year, beating out seven of the world's best new sports cars. The article appears in the December/January issue, on newsstands November 17, and on RoadandTrack.com. "With a flat-plane crank and Sport Cup 2 tires, the GT350R is a Mustang turned up to 11," said Larry Webster, editor-in-chief of Road & Track. "Not only does the car have soul and harness so much firepower with such ease, but the real achievement here is that it's so approachable. It's a car you can't help but love." The Mustang Shelby GT350R was the winner by a runaway vote.
Chevy Corvette gets Valet Mode with Performance Data Recorder [w/video]
Mon, 18 Aug 2014For the 2015-model-year, Chevrolet introduces Valet Mode for the Corvette, an enhancement to the Performance Data Recorder (PDR) already available and to your peace of mind. The PDR already captures 720p HD video with a windshield-mounted camera, records interior audio with a cabin microphone and gathers telemetry data using GPS, saving the data to an SD card in the glovebox. You can then watch your track-day antics with various information overlays on the center console screen.
Valet Mode will let you hit 'Replay' when your car gets pulled up front smelling vaguely of fricasseed clutch. Turned on by entering a four-digit code, it also locks the interior storage spaces and turns off the infotainment system. It can't be turned off until the code is re-entered. There's a press release below with more information as well as a video that explains how it works, with the obligatory dig at the 'Vette's biggest foe.
