It's with a little sadness that I am putting my 1972 Chevrolet C20 Pickup Truck up for sale.

This truck has served me well and deserves a good home. You will be only the third owner of this vehicle, as I purchased it from the original owner a little over two years ago.
Prior to my ownership the truck spent the entirety of its life outside of Bellingham, WA where it was a farm truck. Over the past ten years it was then stored in in a garage as the
original owner was in poor health.  After moving the owner to a nursing home, his son brought it to Oregon City, where I obtained it.
It currently resides in Portland, OR.  It is my second car, and is garaged most of the time.  I drive it 1-2 times a week, only in dry sunny conditions.

ENGINE//DRIVETRAIN

The drivetrain is the 292 Inline six, mated to a three-on-the-tree column shift.
The engine is quiet and smooth, though the Rochester carb should be tuned or rebuilt as it runs a bit rich. The transmission works perfectly and shifts cleanly. I have performed the following maintenance items in the past two years:

Oil Changes/air filter change
Replace cap, rotor, wires and plugs.
Replace Ignition coil
Replace water pump after noticing a small leak from the gasket. Original water pump included (still works).

BODY

The body is in fair condition, but the paint is surprisingly vibrant for its age.  There is one spot of rust damage beneath the passenger door that should probably be repaired, and I have provided pictures to
show it's condition.  The good thing is that that piece is fairly small and very inexpensive, and the rust does not show through the sill.

At some point in its life the bedside on the driver's side was deeply dented, though the paint is still intact.  The bed itself has the original wood-slat floor, but this is deteriorating and should
be replaced.  In the meantime there are custom fitted plywood panels that cover the original bed and provide a firm, solid surface.

Lastly, the rear bumper has sustained a dent and the chrome around the taillight could be replaced.  I have that part but have never installed it. It will be included with the sale.

WHEELS/TIRES

The tires are well beyond their natural life and need replacing.
The wheels are nearly rust free and straight, no wobbling or vibrations. For some reason the passenger front wheel cover is off the later '73-87 models, but the wheel is original.
There is a full size spare with tire under the bed, but the condition is unknown.  I've never had to take it down.

INTERIOR

This C20 has the Cheyenne trim package, which is rare for such a base level vehicle (it was custom ordered this way by the original owner). It includes the "wood" trim pieces and unique vinyl seating.
The seats unfortunately have some cracks running the length of the seat back.  The steering wheel has some cracks in the plastic as well. As this is a base model farm truck there is no radio, but the center panel can be removed should
you choose to install one (there is a space in the dashboard for speakers as well).

This truck is, for lack of a better term, a "survivor." It has been well cared for and is unmolested or modified. It's a piece of cake to work on and maintain, you could practically sit in the engine bay to work.

I will be sad to see it go, but hope that the new owner will respect and care for it as I did.

Thanks for looking!

GM recalls 83,572 SUVs for ignition switch issue

Sun, Jan 4 2015

General Motors is recalling 83,572 SUVs from the 2011 and 2012 model years over a potential ignition lock actuator issue. In affected vehicles, the actuator isn't the right size, which could cause the ignition to get stuck in the "Start" position, and then either due to a jarring event or a "cool interior temperature" the ignition could switch back to the "Accessory" position. Doing so would cause a loss of power assistance and the airbags might not deploy. This is a different ignition issue than the one that's been ongoing for the past year. GM said it expects that less than 500 vehicles suffer from the problem, but that the pool could include vehicles from 2007 through to 2014 that have already been fixed, but with defective parts. The 2011-2012 SUVs included in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notice: Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado HD, Silverado LD, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra LD, Sierra HD, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. GM will notify owners and dealers will inspect the ignition lock housing to see if it needs a free replacement. RECALL Subject : Ignition Lock Actuator may Bind Report Receipt Date: DEC 30, 2014 NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V827000 Component(s): ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Manufacturer: General Motors LLC SUMMARY: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado HD, Silverado LD, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra LD, Sierra HD, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the ignition lock actuator may bind, making turning the key difficult or causing the ignition to get stuck in the "Start" position. CONSEQUENCE: If stuck in the "Start" position, the ignition may suddenly snap back into the "Accessory" position, causing a loss of engine, steering, and braking power, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. If the vehicle is in a crash, the air bags may not deploy, increasing the risk of occupant injury. REMEDY: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the ignition lock housing, as necessary, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), or 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 14696 for the original equipment, and 14912 for the service replacement parts.

Dodge vs. Chevy tug-of-war taken to the extreme

Mon, 17 Dec 2012

They say "idle hands are the devil's playground," but said playgrounds grow to Disney-sized proportions when a pair of jacked-up trucks, two egos, a chain and an empty mall parking lot are involved. Proof of this is the video below, which shows a Cummins-powered Dodge Ram circa 2006 to 2008 chained tail-to-tail with what looks to be a gasoline-powered Chevrolet Silverado from the late 1990s or early 2000s.
We don't necessarily have to tell you who wins this battle, but we'll let you see for yourself the lengths the "winning" driver goes to prove his point. There's plenty of foul language in the video below, so beware that this might be Not Safe For Work, and not that we should have to tell you, but please, do not try this at home.

Watch the National Corvette Museum sinkhole being filled in by R/C cars

Sun, Jan 11 2015

Okay, so not exactly cars, but Bobcats - but still quite cool. You might remember that the National Corvette Museum had that little divot that needed to be filled in. Turns out the construction firm of Scott, Murphy & Daniel doing the work is using two remote-controlled Bobcats to fill the sinkhole with "manufactured sand," which in this case is crushed limestone. It appears that the Bobcat company has offered remote operation since at least 2007 via a wireless transmitter that works up to 1,500 feet away. So yes, that means two SMD employees stand on the edge of the pit and flick joystick levers for hours at a time, one in charge of a Bobcat with a roller-compactor attachment, the other in charge of a Bobcat with a bucket. And that, to us, is a pretty good way to earn the daily bread. Check out the video above for the latest sinkhole update.
