1970 Chevrolet Custom Camper C20, 2WD, Long Box, with original 400 bb motor and Turbo 400 'automatic transmission. Local, one family owned since new. Originally sold in Spokane. Odometer functions and shows 51044, but has been over at least once. Date of Manufacture is 10/69 and the original SPID label is in the glove box (see pix).
Original paint in Hugger Orange and White with black vinyl interior. Mild rust, as is normal, but the right front rocker panel is the only visible rust through area. Undercarriage has surface rust, but all mounts, suspension pieces and brackets are in good condition. Fenders, hood, doors, box sides and tailgate are in good to very good condition. Original wood bed floor is in very good condition. Motor has never been out of the truck, but I was told that it had a valve job some years ago. Original Quadrajet carburetor with an aftermarket external fuel pump to handle the saddle tank as well as the original interior tank behind the seat. 10 bolt, non posi rear end with heavy duty leaf springs, not coils. Uncommon bedside tool storage box. Factory camper wiring. Power brakes and steering. Original steel wheels and center caps. No headliner. Original AM radio with uncut dash. All chrome is intact and in decent condition including front bumper, door handles, windshield chrome trim, side mouldings and grill. Trim is not show car, but very useable. Windshield has a crack in the right side. Black original floor mat, not carpet. Pictures of the original build sheets are attached. There were two of them, identical, under the front seat: not exactly sure why. This is a decent daily driver. The engine does not smoke, rattle or leak oil. The transmission shifts fine and there are no rear end noises. The brakes are good and the steering is reasonably tight. The heater works fine. The only non factory items on this truck are an underdash Pioneer cassette deck, a trailer brake set up under the dash and some wiring and hoses on the engine, and the exterior mirrors. It originally came with 4 post, camper style mirrors. I would not hesitate to drive this truck 500 miles, although not in a northwest winter over mountain passes. Delivery is the responsibility of the purchaser and I will assist in any reasonable manner. Clear Idaho title. If you require any additional information or pictures, please let me know. |

GM executive chief EV engineer says reducing cost of plug-in vehicles is 'huge priority'
Mon, Mar 17 2014As we know, another major automaker investing heavily in electrified vehicles is General Motors, and it's doing things much differently than rivals BMW, Ford or Nissan. The Chevrolet Volt extended-range EV is a modest seller at its $35,000 sticker price but a huge hit with owners. The Chevy Spark BEV, still in limited availability, puts smiley faces on its owners and drivers. The just-introduced Cadillac ELR, a sharp-looking, fun-driving $76,000 luxocoupe take on the Volt's EREV mechanicals, has admittedly low sales expectations. With this interesting trio in showrooms and much more in the works, the third vehicle electrification leader I collared for an interview at Detroit's North American International Auto Show (see #1 and #2) was Pam Fletcher, GM's executive chief engineer, Electrified Vehicles. ABG: Why do your EREVs need four-cylinder power to extend their range when BMW's i3 makes do with an optional 650 cc two-banger? "We designed [the Volt and the ELR] to go anywhere, any time" - Pam Fletcher PF: I get that question all the time: why not something smaller? You don't really need that much. You use the electric to its ability, then you just need to limp. But we designed those cars to go anywhere, any time, and we don't want their performance to be compromised. If you're driving through the mountains, we don't want you to be crawling up grades, or to be limited on any terrain. So it's optimized to be able to travel literally the biggest grades and mountain roads around the globe at posted speeds. Because what if you can't? Another good reason: when the engine is on, you have to run it wide open throttle, max speed, most of the time. And while we can do a lot with acoustics, and the ELR has active noise cancelation, a small-displacement, low cylinder-count engine at high speed, high load all the time isn't something you want to live with. That's how we came up with the balance we did among the key factors of performance, NVH [noise, vibration and harshness] and range. ABG: Where you go from here? Is the range-extender engine due for an update? PF: We know and love the current Volt, and there is still a lot of acclaim about it, so we think it's a good recipe. But we are heavily in the midst of engineering the next-generation car, which I think everyone will love and be excited about.
Recharge Wrap-up: Chevy Volt CarPlay video, Tesla Supercharger importance
Fri, Feb 5 2016A video demonstrates Apple CarPlay on the touch display in the next-generation Chevrolet Volt. The Volt's eight-inch (bigger than an iPad Mini) capacitive display is capable of putting Siri and your iPhone apps and right at your fingertips. It's "the best CarPlay display I've seen," says the user in the video. In case you're not in the market for a new Volt, 9to5Mac offers some of its favorite aftermarket CarPlay screens. See the video above, and read more at 9to5Mac. A single Supercharger can make a big difference in the life of a Tesla owner. Teslarati's Electric Jen talks about purchasing a Model S, being assured by both Tesla employees and the map of planned Supercharger sites that one would be built along an important route for her. With the construction being pushed back, it made visiting family tricky. "As if owning such a grand car isn't embarrassing enough, asking for a ride to drop off and pick up said car because you can't make it home without charging really made me feel awkward," she says. "You see, one single charging location can mean the world to some people," Jen adds. Read the whole article at Teslarati. Tesla once had considered creating mobile range extender trailers for the Model S. Elon Musk touched upon the abandoned idea during his visit to Paris. While Tesla ultimately dismissed the concept, Nomadic Power has taken the opportunity to hitch their product onto the Tesla brand. "We are delighted, that Tesla Motors' CEO Elon Musk is thinking about a concept like ours for even more extending the range of the Tesla models," says Nomadic Power's CEO Manfred Baumgaertner. He adds, "This confirms our approach to build a long distance mobility provider for all electric vehicles on the market." If you say so, Baumgaertner. When the batteries have degraded to the point that they're no longer suitable for use on the road, they still have a significant capacity that can be used for other purposes. Still useful for stationary storage, they can be used to support charging sites in order to allow for faster charging. The stationary batteries can charge slowly at the site, but then offer up the juice in a hurry when it's needed for a vehicle. Read more from Renault.
