This was my fathers truck, he purchased it in  Missoula, MT in 1972.  It is a heavy duty 3/4 ton that came with 17" factory split rim wheels (they are still on the truck).  The original 327 engine busted a valve lifter and busted the block.  The block was replaced with a used 305, I believe it still has the 327 heads.  The engine runs strong and starts very easily.  When it sits for weeks without being started you need to dump a little gas in the air cleaner...so it needs carburetor attention.  The transmission and transfer case shift correctly, it does have that classic Chevy whine in 4th gear, but it has been there since dad bought it in 1972.  It does cough and run out of power accelerating in 4th gear, I think it's a carburetor or distributor issue.  In 1st through 3rd gears it seems to have plenty of power.  The engine sounds good, idles great and seems to run strong.  The gauges and tachometer work.  The tires are miss-matched and in poor condition, but they hold air.  The miss matched tires make it hard to get out of 4 wheel drive in these old trucks.  I'm not sure if anyone will change tires on the old split rims anymore, but 17 inch rims and tires are popular today (as a kid in the 70's and 80's I recall that tires for the pickup were a hard find).

I don't know what model transfer case / gear ratios etcetera.  That's all original though.

The truck hasn't been driven much in the last 20 years, maybe a couple hundred miles a year around my parents house hauling firewood or some gravel etc.

The body is pretty darn straight for it's age.  It has the usual rust in the corners of the cab and the driver floor board is rusted through and needs replaced.  The tailgate isn't straight.  The floor of the bed is solid but not straight, it took a pretty good sized load of gravel to make this heavy duty truck squat.  There is a small dent in the left front fender above the tire.  The side of the box, just behind the left rear tire is curled under because a wheel came off one time (loose lug nuts).  The saddle gas tanks were added when dad bought it, but they haven't been used in the last 20 years, so I'm sure they need a good cleaning etc before being used again.  I think the pictures show the condition pretty well.

The interior is good, the dash top is weathered and wrinkled from the sun.  The seat covers have been on for as long as I can remember, the seat covers are pretty worn, I don't know what the original seat material looks like or what condition it is in.

I think this is a good candidate for restoration.  It's sharp looking truck, the heavy duty front end / hubs and the 17" tires make it look tough (in my opinion).  My plan was to restore it and keep it, but I (maybe my wife) realized that I don't have the time and garage space to do the restoration.  So, I was told that I have decided to let it go to someone who is willing to do it justice.

I have started the bid pretty reasonable and there is no reserve.  The truck is listed locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction.  There is no warranty.  It's the buyers responsibility for shipping.  I will try to help in any way I can.  The truck is in Corvallis Montana, it's right next to a state highway so loading onto a trailer etc will be easy.

Please don't bid if you have no feedback. Be willing and able to pay.

Thanks for looking.

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible is the track car for sun worshippers

Fri, 11 Apr 2014

Supercharged, 6.2-liter V8? Check. Seven-speed manual? Check. Obsession with weight? Check.
What did you expect when Chevrolet said it was bringing a new Corvette variant to the 2014 New York Auto Show? Maybe a sticker and trim package, like the C6 Corvette Grand Sport or a tie-in deal like the Black Widow car from Chicago? On the opposite end, maybe there was an even more hardcore Z06 waiting in the wings. Who knew?

First 2016 Chevy Volt commercial rocks us to sleep

Fri, Jan 30 2015

The 2016 Chevrolet Volt, with its thorough restyling and increased all-electric range, is an exciting evolution of Chevy's groundbreaking plug-in hybrid, so it's only fitting that the commercial campaign to sell it to the masses also be engaging and vibrant. Well, the first ad has just been officially released and it rocks... us to sleep. Now, we get that General Motors didn't want to repeat past Volt-commercial mistakes. No one wants to see dogs licking feet or dumb (and weirdly horny) aliens again. Nor would it be smart to slam all-electric vehicles, since it now sells the Spark EV and has just revealed its 200-mile Bolt concept. So, what does that leave? How about a mostly computer-generated spot that relies on cliche images and an upbeat synthetic soundtrack to communicate that the Volt is now as boring as other four-door appliances? An intro, featuring a lightly-bearded gentleman peering at his tablet through designer glasses launches us into the action as the Volt makes its way across a city bridge, then a curvaceous country road. Chevrolet doesn't include voiceover to inform you that the new Volt has a 50-mile battery-only range. There's no mention of its gas mileage once its electric charge is depleted – items that just might be of importance to hybrid buyers. The ad also makes no attempt at establishing an emotional connection, either through drama or comedy. There are, however, lots of fast cuts of the new, normalized interior, including a two-second detail shot featuring the windshield wiper switch. We imagine that this is only the first in a series of spots that will tell the Volt story and motivate potential buyers to run down to their local dealer, hopefully the next spots will be more interesting and informative. Nissan Leaf makes it 19 in a row for record sales; Chevy Volt drops 21 percent

Wed, Oct 1 2014

The Nissan Leaf continues its streak of "best month ever" sales with 2,881 EVs sold in September. Compared to the 1,953 sold in September 2013, that represents an increase of 47.5 percent and, as Nissan itself must be tired of saying by now, it marks yet another best month ever, same as last month and now the 19th in a row. Okay, sure, we know, Nissan will tout this run for as long as it can, but we're certainly expecting it each month, so if it ever doesn't happen, it'll be interesting to see how Nissan talks about it. Year-to-date, Leaf sales are up 35.7 percent compared to 2013. In any case, Nissan's director of EV marketing, Toby Perry, sent AutoblogGreen a statement that said, "Nissan Leaf owners have turned into some of our best marketers, and they jump at any opportunity to share their enthusiasm with friends and family. Take National Drive Electric Week – a grassroots celebration of all things EV and the perfect platform for LEAF owners to showcase the benefits of going electric. After celebrating with EV owners in more than 130 cities across the country, we saw a significant increase in Leaf showroom visits with midweek traffic just as heavy as what we see on the weekends." Year-to-date, Leaf sales are up 35.7 percent compared to 2013. Over on the Chevy Volt front, things aren't quite as rosy. After coming off a good August (the best sales month of 2014 by almost 500 units), Volt sales were down to 1,394, a decrease of 21.1 percent compared to September 2013. So far this year, Volt sales are down 13.2 percent year-over-year. It's kind of a stretch, but perhaps people are already waiting for the next-gen Volt, which will be revealed at the Detroit Auto Show in January, to go on sale? Speaking of things we say every month, our in-depth round-up of US green car sales is in process and will be appearing soon. Until then, please discuss how these two long-standing plug-in champs are doing on the sales floor. Green Chevrolet Nissan Electric Hybrid PHEV ev sales hybrid sales
