1958 Chevrolet NAPCO 4x4 - $8900 (Roxton TX)<BR>1958 Chevrolet Apache 31 series (5,000lbs stamp on door, wheelbase 114, stepside, shortbox) with NAPCO "Powr-Pak" Four wheel drive system/Task Forse Truck. It is very drivable and stops. It drives straight and the transmission and transfer case all function correctly. The motor appears to be the original V8 Factory (283 cu. in) vin V3A580104744. It has a four speed transmission with "granny gear" and two speed transfer case for "Hi" and "Lo" four wheel drive operation. This rare truck draws attention wherever it goes. (NAPCO stands for Northwestern Auto Parts Company of Minneapolis, MN. NAPCO is famous for its creation and extensive marketing of four wheel drive conversion kits for GMC and Chevrolet trucks. According to the NAPCO Owners' Group, the conversions were available as early as 1950, but by 1957, NAPCO had arrangements in place for factory installed conversions on Chevrolet trucks. Or, the kits could be ordered and installed by dealers or "upfitters." 1959 was the last year of the NAPCO convertion. Major components such as the transfer case were manufactured by Spicer (later acquired by Dana, but still using the Spicer name), but Chevrolet parts were also used. In 1960, Chevrolet began producing its own four wheel drive pickups, eventually leading to the demise of the NAPCO Powr-Pak, but until then, NAPCO was Chevrolet's four wheel drive). Colorado title in hand. Painted in Chevrolet's Cardinal Red 714A (1958), this truck has the oringal paint. Surface rust and very little rust on this truck. It is a survivor. The wood in the bed needs to be replaced. The glass is going to have to be replaced. The truck has the spare tire fender on the drivers side, heater, ordered without a radio, it was clearly a working vehicle. It has been maintained and driven around on the Texas farm frequently. These trucks have been seen at truck shows and parades. You can now owe a piece of history. As you can tell this is a very rare and ALL original truck. I can text you pictures. 706 851 0029 $8,900OBO pls note I will be selling all of my collectible trucks including 1953 Dodge Power Wagon/winch $13,000, 1972 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 $ 6,000

Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.

Weekly Recap: BMW rolls out ambitious plug-in hybrid electric plan

Sat, Dec 6 2014

"We believe that for the United States, this is going to be very important." – Julian Arguelles Let there be no doubt, BMW is serious about electric vehicles. The German automaker said this week it will make plug-in hybrid versions of all of its core models, an aggressive move that demonstrates its commitment to electric propulsion systems. BMW did not specify which vehicles will get the plug-in systems or provide a timeline for when they will arrive. But the announcement is clearly more than blustering, and the company revealed a 3 Series plug-in prototype this week at an event in France. BMW said the 3 Series uses a version of its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (240 horsepower, 300 pound feet of torque) with an electric motor sandwiched between the engine and transmission in place of the torque converter. It has an all-electric range of 22 miles. A plug-in X5 with the same powertrain was also displayed alongside the 3 Series, though the X5 has been on the auto-show circuit for more than a year, including a recent stop in Los Angeles. Those two vehicles use "eDrive," and BMW's plans represent the first widespread transfer of its technology from development of the i3 and i8 models to more mainstream products. BMW said it's developing electric powertrains so they can be deployed rapidly across its range, and they are flexible enough to be used with fuel cells in future products. Enticingly, BMW is also working on a "Power eDrive" system, which debuted in a 5 Series GT concept at the event in France. This setup has two electric motors powered by a 20-kilowatt-hour battery pack, and when teamed with a four-cylinder turbo, pump out about 670 hp. Reinforcing BMW's commitment, the company will add more than 200 jobs at its factory in Dingolfing, Germany, to support electric-vehicle development. The moves come as BMW and other automakers diversify their portfolios while fuel economy and emissions regulations are getting tighter around the world. The United States has set a 54.5-mpg CAFE requirement for the 2025 model year. BMW said the electric vehicles were developed with an eye toward the US market, its government policies and its wide-ranging commuting styles. "We believe that for the United States, this is going to be very important," spokesman Julian Arguelles said. Ben Scott, a senior analyst in London with automotive research firm IHS, said BMW's moves are expensive – but necessary – to keep pace with the market.

GM opens military discount to 21M veterans and their spouses

Thu, Apr 7 2016

May marks the start of National Military Appreciation Month, and General Motors is getting into the spirit by expanding its military discount program to, well, just about everyone. That includes a total of 21 million military veterans and their spouses, along with the current slate of active duty, reserve, and National Guard members. The discount can slash thousands of dollars off the price of a new Buick, Chevrolet, or GMC vehicles, with Automotive News listing an $1,100 discount on the top gas-powered version of the Malibu, the Premiere. Those that want a bit more spice can get $1,700 off the price of a last-generation 2015 Camaro SS, while truck buyers will enjoy $3,000 off the Chevy Silverado All Star. That's just a start, though, since the military discount can be paired with other GM incentives. The discount doesn't apply to everything, though. Some are understandable – none of Cadillac's vehicles are included in the deal, nor is the Corvette Z06. You'll also be unable to apply the discount to a range of base-level trims, like the Chevy Cruze or Equinox L, the base Colorado, or the entry level GMC Acadia, Canyon, and Terrain. A full list is available at GM's dedicated military discount website. GM's expanded discount plan runs from today through May 31.
