1984 GMC High Sierra 1500, regular cab short bed 4x4.
The A/C and Cruise Control still work and best of all it only has 117k original miles. It has the original 5.0 liter 305 4 barrel quadrajet that has never been modified and complete new dual exhaust that isn't loud. It runs very smooth. It is an automatic with overdrive. Excellent tires.
In 2010 I had the paint redone and spared no expense. I replaced the tail lights, head lights, rear bumper, grill and hood emblems, door mirrors, tool box, tailgate, and door seals. I'm sure there's more that I can't remember. All parts came from LMC Truck and Classic Industries. It turned out very well. It has power windows and locks with new switches on drivers door, cruise control works and has a new switch, and a new tinted sliding rear window. All the weather strip rubber was replaced as well as the windshield chrome trim and rubber seal. All fluids have been changed including the transmission fluid and filter, both front and rear diff fluids, and the transfer case oil. The interior is in good condition overall for a 29 year old truck. The door panels are a bit faded and there is a crack in the center of the dash. The seat is in good condition with no holes tears or rips. I replaced both fuel tanks. I replaced the tool box about a year ago and it has a spray in bed liner. It has a receiver trailer hitch with 5 pin adapter. The body is excellent and the frame and undercarriage is extremely clean. Truck has never been off road and is just as clean underneath as on top. There is no rust on the body or frame. It has an aftermarket stereo with an amplifier under the dash. The floor rubber mat is new.
The passenger window motor still works but is slow. There is a puff of white smoke at start up if the truck as been sitting a long time and the gas gauge needle only goes up to 1/2 full, but shows accurately as the level goes down past half full through to the empty mark. I guess it is a bad ground on the sending unit that I must not have grounded properly when I installed the new tanks. Otherwise I'm not aware of any mechanical issues that need to be fixed. I have driven the truck from Virginia Beach to NYC, then Albany NY and back with no problems at all. Steering is tight, brakes are new and I'd trust this truck to drive anywhere. I always run premium fuel in it.

Next-gen GM SUVs caught wearing new boxy bodies [w/video]
Wed, 15 May 2013We recently drove the brand-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and found it to be vastly improved compared to the outgoing model. And now that The General's pickup trucks have been squared away, it's time to focus our attention onto their passenger-friendly companions, the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon (above).
Our spy photographers have passed along a huge smattering of photos (and a video), showing the new SUVs out testing. Both the short- and long-wheelbase models were spied, and while the overall shape of the vehicles hasn't changed all that much, we expect the updates to be substantial. In addition to new powertrain options, like GM's new small-block V8, we expect the interiors of both SUVs to get massive makeovers, providing better materials throughout their cabins and quieter, more refined environments. We even hear that some trick new suspension developments may be in store for upper-end models.
Visually, these spy shots allow us to see a couple of new details on the SUVs' front and rear fascias, including LED running lamps on the Yukon and some interesting LED taillamp treatments. Of course, the obvious third party missing from this set of photos is the Cadillac Escalade, but as we reported earlier, GM is working to further differentiate the 'Slade from the rest of the fullsize SUV lineup, and is working to make the new model "much less ostentatious."
How GM engineers are using diaper 'snow' to keep you warm
Thu, Jan 8 2015Testing how snow affects General Motors' vehicles isn't really a problem right now for the company's engineers, but in the dog days of summer the process isn't exactly easy. The only real option is for them to book time at the automaker's climatic wind tunnel. However, a flash of brilliance from an engineer allows snow to be simulated regardless of the temperature outside, and the discovery is all because of his daughter's wet diaper. The realization came to GM Thermal Systems engineer Nicholas Jahn while he was swimming with his daughter and noticed how her diaper ballooned in size in the water. He found out the substance that makes this possible is called sodium polyacrylate. When the material gets wet it grows and forms fluffy flakes that are a close imitation of snow. Best of all, the stuff can be prepared easily any time of the year, and it's reusable. The engineering team uses the material to test the effectiveness of the heating systems of GM's vehicles. They spread the sodium polyacrylate over the inlets at the base of the windshield to obstruct the airflow and then crank the heater. After some time, they can see how much is being sucked into the system and design more efficient systems in the future. See how the process works in the video above and read about the diaper discovery in GM's press release below. Diapers Change Chevy Cruze Winter Warm-up Time GM validation engineer uses diaper material "snow" to reduce frigid drives 2015-01-06 DETROIT – An item commonly found on an infant's changing table is helping General Motors' engineers simulate snow year round, ensuring heating systems in cars like the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze can quickly and efficiently warm its interior. Packed snow can prevent air from entering the inlet panel at the bottom of the windshield, obstructing the flow of air into the heating system and reducing the amount of air it can push out. This can lead to less efficient warming of the car's interior and windshield defrosting. "The last thing anyone wants to do when it's freezing cold out is scrape their windshield," said Nicholas Jahn, GM Vehicle Thermal Systems engineer. "The testing we perform on the Chevrolet Cruze with the diaper material allows us to maximize the car's heating capabilities." Ironically, Jahn stumbled upon his diaper-based testing method in the middle of summer. During a swim with his daughter, he noticed her diaper multiplied in size when it came into contact with water.
Corvette Stolen In Detroit Returned To Owner After 33 Years
Wed, Jun 25 2014A Detroit man had his stolen Corvette returned 33 years after it disappeared while parked on one of Detroit's main drags, according to ABC 7. The last time George Talley saw his 1979 Corvette was on a July day in 1981, when it disappeared from its parking spot on Jefferson Avenue in Detroit. He had given up hope of ever seeing his car again, until a phone call from AAA brought his sporty ride home. Authorities had come across a Corvette with a questionable VIN in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. When they ran the number Talley's stolen car report came up. The car is still in pretty good shape and only has 47,000 miles on the odometer. Talley wasn't sure how he could get the car back home, but General Motors stepped in and agreed to cover the cost of bringing the 'Vette home. Talley has always had a passion for Detroit-made muscle cars. "I've always liked Corvettes. It was attractive. The ladies like 'em," Talley told ABC 7.
