I'm selling a very clean, high mileage 1998 Chevy Silverado I've owned for a couple months.
I bought this truck because I work for a company that provides me a company vehicle. Until this summer I always had the option of a company pickup truck. That changed this year and I decided to buy this truck to haul kids' motorcycles and the occasional load of firewood. Two months later I decided to change jobs and my new position provides a company pickup!
I no longer need this truck so I'm hoping someone out there needs it. It's a great, clean, sharp truck from a model year when I think Chevy got it "just right" in terms of body style and options. I don't think the cab corners have ever been worked on and they are solid and in great condition. The rockers are also rust free. The previous owner did brush and paint them to clean up 225,000 miles of scratches but there was no rust he fixed. Please see the pictures to get an idea just how nice the cab corners and rockers are. The only rust on this vehicle is starting at the bottom of the doors under the weatherstripping. The bed is protected by a full bedliner and includes front corner anchors added by a previous owner. There are scratches on the driver's door you can see in the pictures. These only affect the color coat and don't penetrate the primer.
The interior is in great shape and only shows one wear spot on the upholstery. This is on the driver's seat and can be seen in the pictures. It comes with an aftermarket stereo with removable faceplate and remote control. It AM/FM/CD as well as an auxiliary jack I use to run my XM receiver. I'm willing to work with you on keeping the XM receiver for the rest of my subscription if you wish as long as you agree to my asking price. It's good for another couple months after which time you may keep the receiver and buy your own subscription or return the receiver and vehicle kit to me - whatever you want.
Here are the items that I was going to work on if I had kept the truck:
- The truck should have new tires before the winter and have a front end alignment. I was waiting to get new tires to get the front end aligned but I'll let the new owner do that.
- The headlamp switch needs replaced. They can be had for about $35 but again this isn't a priority for me. The headlights work fine but the switch needs to be moved between positions for high beams.
- The A/C needs to be charged.
- The check engine light is on. It codes as a catalytic converter error which is to be expected on a high mileage truck. It runs fine and has no effect on the truck's performance.
I just completed a 500 mile round trip to Chicago and back with absolutely no issues. I really enjoy driving this truck but, as I mentioned, I no longer need it and would rather not take up space parking it. Thsi would make a great first vehicle for a young person or use it as I was going to as an extra vehicle to do some work.
Please contact me with any questions. I've sold a couple vehicle successfully on eBay in the past and expect this will be the same. I'm not trying to make any money on this truck. In fact I'll lose a couple hundred with my "Buy it Now" but I figure I got that much use out of it.
Thanks for viewing!

Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]
Fri, 25 Jan 2013The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?

Chevy's low-cost pedestrian avoidance to debut on 2016 Malibu
Tue, Jul 28 2015The mainstreaming of safety technologies that began on luxury vehicles will get a big boost from General Motors later this year. The General says it plans to offer 22 driver assistance systems across its product portfolio of 2016 models, starting with the redesigned Chevrolet Malibu - the one that we know will keep tabs on teenagers for the benefit of parents. Pedestrian avoidance will be another of its available options. Instead of kitting the sedan out with numerous and expensive radar arrays, the GM system uses the camera mounted next to the rearview mirror that is already used for the lane-keeping function. New software lets it detect pedestrians, and when it detects a potential collision with one, it can alert the driver and brake autonomously if the driver doesn't react. Eventually, engineers want to give it the ability to do the same with cyclists. Because it uses existing hardware updated with new code, GM says the application costs "a few hundred dollars." GM demonstrated the Front Pedestrian Braking preventing a crash with a dummy pedestrian at speeds up to 15 miles per hour. Automotive News reports that it will reduce the severity of impact up to 40 miles per hour, but "may not be of much use in collisions at higher speeds." That feature will also join the options list of the Cadillac CT6. The press release below has more on GM's driver tech soon on the way. Related Video: GM Paving Way to Smarter and Safer Driving at All-New Active Safety Test Area 22 crash-avoidance technologies offered on 2016 Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac models MILFORD, Mich. 2015-07-24 – Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac will offer 22 different active safety technologies across their 2016 model year U.S. lineups, ranging from driver alerts to those that automatically intervene and assist the driver in critical situations. Safety engineers will develop and test these and other safety technologies for products around the world at GM's new, 52-acre Active Safety Test Area at its Milford Proving Ground near Detroit. The $14 million facility officially opened Friday. "Our comprehensive safety strategy of helping customers before, during and after a crash continues," said Jeff Boyer, vice president of GM Global Vehicle Safety.
Top horsepower-per-dollar cars in 2017
Tue, Feb 17 2015Bang for the buck. That quasi-scientific statistic is bandied about by motor heads everywhere from classrooms to barrooms, though the truth of the matter is that it's exceedingly complex to measure. A fair performance-per-dollar index would include something like cross-referencing MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) with point-to-point times on a track or driving route, which is obviously hard to do comprehensively. But, for the sheer joy of talking about cars and playing with a big spreadsheet, there's always the horsepower-per-dollar index, which is more straightforward, albeit hilariously flawed. There are vagaries even with this simple formula, of course: MSRP for vehicles can change at a moment's notice, to say nothing of the bottom-line shifting that happens with local deals or showroom negotiation. For this list we're running with the straight MSRP wherever possible, and as recently reported as we can get it. All the vehicles on this list are 2017 models, and all trims are reported where the lowest price and differing power levels intersect. Some choices were made for personal preference and some for sanity, avoiding things like all 48 trim levels of the Ford Transit, all with the same horsepower). If this list were a simple top ten, or even a top fifty, you'd be bored to tears with all the red, white and blue that is represented. Following perfectly with conventional wisdom, American cars really do lead the world where hp/$ is concerned. So, for the sake of variety (and the sheer joy of seeing a minivan 'win' one round of this thing) I've sorted out some top five and bottom five lists for broad power categories. Let's dive in. Less Than 100 Horsepower Okay, okay, this is hardly a category we'll grant you. But we've often tried to click off all the sub-100-hp cars on sale in the US, and making this list gave us an excuse. It also illustrates that none of these smallish vehicles bring cheap horsepower to the table - for that you'll need a motorcycle. The segment-leading Chevy Spark (above) asks just over $139 for each hp, and that Smart Fortwo Electric Drive has hp on sale for about the same price as its very distant family cousin, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (insert your favorite Smart joke here... we know you want to).
