THE DESIGN DEPARTMENT HAD BEEN WORKING FOR FOUR YEARS ON A RADICAL NEW STYLE, TRANSFORMING THE SQUARE LOOK INTO A SLEEK NEW BEAUTY WITH ROUNDED EDGES. CHEVROLET UNDERSTOOD THAT SINCE 1967, THE PICKUP TRUCK WAS GRADUALLY BECOMING AMERICA'S EVERY DAY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION. MORE AND MORE CONSUMERS WERE TRADING OFF THEIR CARS AND BUYING PICK UP TRUCKS, AND THEY RESPONDED WITH A WORK OF ART ON FOUR WHEELS. THIS IS A 1988 CHEVROLET C1500 FLEETSIDE MILD CUSTOM SHOW TRUCK. The Chevrolet C series trucks were built from 1960-1999. That is a 39 year production run. The C series was finally replaced by the Silverado in 1999. Chevrolet has been at the forefront of design and performance since the beginning. The 1960 model year introduced a new body style of light pick-up truck that featured many firsts. Most important of these were a drop-center ladder frame, allowing the cab to sit lower, and independent front suspension, giving an almost car-like ride in a truck. Also new for 1960 was a new labeling system for trucks made by GM. Gone were the 3100,3200, and 3600 designations. The Chevrolet was now a C series in two wheel drive and K in four wheel drive. The original C10 emblem on the 1960 version escalated to the C1500 as the generations developed.

 

A new, more modern look came in 1967, along with a new nickname: "Action Line". It was with this revision of the C/K truck that General Motors expanded the option list of comfort and convenience items to a vehicle line that had previously been for work purposes alone. This has been referred to as the Golden Age of Chevy Trucks. 1967 was the beginning of the nation's true love affair with trucks. It was no longer necessary to own both a car for recreation and a pickup for work. It was now possible to order any comfort and convenience option on the pickup. One vehicle now performed the duties of two!

 

An all-new clean sheet redesign of General Motors' Chevrolet and GMC brand C/K-Series pickups debuted in mid-1972 for the 1973 model year. Development of the new third-generation trucks began in 1968 with vehicle components undergoing simulated testing on computers before the first prototype pickups were even built for real world testing. The redesign was completely unique in appearance at the time, particularly the cab, departing from typical American pickup truck designs of the era. Although revolutionary in 1973, by the mid eighties Chevrolet engineers realized a complete new redesign would be crucial. The result was the revolutionary generation four model, known as the GMT400 platform. There was a drastic difference between the 3rd-generation and 4th-generation GM trucks, and the buying public realized this immediately. It is a success story that has transcended time, will continue beyond 2014.

The Southern body has been refinished in Neon Blue base coat/clear coat with Yellow flames. The finish is smooth and uniform, buffed to a mirror gloss. The truck was painted in a Corvette shop. Yellow flames were applied. Cowl hood. Custom billet grille. Dual sport mirrors. Color matched front bumper. Front air dam. Rolled rear pan. Polished chrome slotted wheels with Bowtie center caps. American GT Grand Turbo radial tires, P275/60R15. Door jams have a finish similar to the exterior. Weatherstripping is in excellent condition. Line X spray on bed liner. There is a 5 or 6 inch crack on the driver side of the tail gate.

Light Beige custom interior with Light Tan lower door panels and carpet. Interior was completely redone at a cost of $2,000. Seats and seat cushions are in very good condition. Door panels and carpet also in very good condition. Leather wrapped steering wheel. Tilt steering column. The column collar is broken, but this is only cosmetic, everything functions properly. Power steering, power disc brakes, power windows, and power door locks. Seat belts. Sony AM/FM/CD. Air conditioning. The two center AC vents were removed for radio clearance, but everything functions as it should. Dash is in good condition. Two or three small age cracks.

 

5.7 liter V8 engine, rebuilt per previous owner. Fuel injected. Engine and engine bay are nicely detailed. Runs and drives as well as it looks. Turbo automatic transmission. 2,200 RPM stall converter and shift kit. Ten bolt rear differential.

 

This truck is an eye catcher and a great cruising vehicle. Summer is here, and this is the perfect vehicle to enjoy this season.

"Turbo" Chevrolet Camaro is a 700-HP fantasy car come to life [w/video]

For a concept car built to promote an animated movie about a snail that wants to go racing, this thing ain't half bad. The outsized monster you see before you started life as a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, and then went through a big-time Hollywood makeover before being positioned on the Chevrolet stand here in Chicago.
This 2013 "Turbo" Camaro Coupe is getting the promotion machine ratcheted up for a new DreamWorks tale by the name of, you guessed it, Turbo. Coming this summer, the movie will follow one snail's quest to become a race driver worthy of making the cut at the Indy 500. Like many DreamWorks vehicles before it, we're guessing that the petrolhead snail will star in a movie that adults (especially racing fans) with have no trouble watching with their kids. Check out the trailer below to see if you agree.
As for the car, we're told that it is "instrumental" in transforming Turbo from snail into racer. Helping the beastly pony car in this mighty task, is an ankle-cracking front splitter matched by a ungodly huge rear wing out back, a COPO hood and a supercharged (yes, supercharged) V8 engine making more than 700 horsepower. 24-inch wheels all the way around - 10-inches wide in front and 15-inches wide in back - should allow the "Turbo" Camaro to hook up with ease, as well.

Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner

For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"

These days, truck-based, full-frame SUVs are somewhat of a rarity on the auto landscape due to the rapid rise in popularity of easier-driving, car-based crossovers. Although, without the gradually building popularity of these chunky, high-riding vehicles decades ago, it's unlikely that America's roads would be filled with so many CUVs today. In its latest dig into the archives, MotorWeek has found a 1984 comparison test of a trio of these early Sport Utility Wagons, as long-time host John Davis called them, that helped get acceptance of this segment going. This is a red, white and blue test of the SUVs from American automakers at the time and pits the Chevrolet Blazer, Ford Bronco and Jeep Cherokee (specifically in Wagoneer guise) against each other. Driving manners and interior usability are considered in the evaluation, but Motorweek actually takes these vehicles off road, too. Among the bigger revelations is the improvement in on-road ability in the past 30 years. While specific 0-60 times aren't given, all three models take around 10 seconds just to get to around 50 miles per hour in the 500-feet on-ramp acceleration test.
