1985 Chevrolet C-10 on 2040-cars
El Paso, Texas, United States
Unfortunately the day has come that I must part with this beautiful TimeCapsule. This 1985 Chevrolet Short Wheel Base has truly stood the test of time. The All Original Paint this truck has along with the All Original Interior iswhat collectors and gear heads set out to find each and every day. The firstthing I had done to the truck was Paint Correction and Clear Coat. The truck was100% Rust free and 90% dent and scratch free. At this time I had Dents R Us gothrough the truck and professionally remove all of the ugly dents. There is nobondo or filler on this one. During the Paint correction stage I decided Iwanted to add a little "Pizazz" to the factory Paint. I had the entire truckrecleared to preserve the natural ware of what the Paint Offers. During thistime I also added Factory Oem White to the truck both top and bottom to give itthat... Rat Rod/Hot Rod/Pro Touring look. The outcome is simply Breathtaking. The interior of this Time Capsule is 100% Original. The seat has zero tares orrips. The gauges work as well as they did back in 85'. The Speedometer isCrisp. The AC is what sets the interior apart on this one. I went with 100%Factory Oem Componets and I swear to you this thing will freeze you out beforethe truck leaves the garage. The 350 Motor/Transmission on this truck is 100%dependable and 100% Street worthy. I drive my 3 year old son too and from thedonut shop in this truck three times a week. Everything about the drive train isCRISP! The suspension of this truck is all brand new. I went with a 3/4 drop onthis bad boy and the stance is AWESOME. All New Cooper Cobra Tires Accompaniedby Favtory Rally Wheels which were powder coated white gives this little hot rodthat mean aggressive profile. Too sum up the truck I will use one word. BADASS.

Experimental mid-engine XP-819 Corvette going up for auction
Sun, 17 Feb 2013It seems to be commonplace that when a new Corvette is in development, rumors swirl about a possible mid-engine layout. As is the case of Chevy's most recent C7 Corvette, these rumors never pan out.
In any case, the idea for a 'Vette with an engine mounted behind the driver can probably all be traced back to a single car, the 1964 XP-819 prototype. Built as an "engineering exercise" back in 1964, the prototype was designed with a rear-mounted engine. History tells us that the idea of a rear-engine Corvette fizzled, and the XP-819 was eventually cut up into pieces and stored at a shop in Daytona Beach, FL.
After sitting for untold years, a restoration project started on the car, and while it isn't yet fully completed, the current owner of the car, Mid America Motorworks, will have the car on display at the 2013 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance as a "driveable chassis" with hopes of having a fully completed car ready to bring to next year's show.
5 reasons why GM is cutting jobs, closing plants in a healthy economy
Tue, Nov 27 2018DETROIT — Even though unemployment is low, the economy is growing and U.S. auto sales are near historic highs, General Motors is cutting thousands of jobs in a major restructuring aimed at generating cash to spend on innovation. It's the new reality for automakers that are faced with the present cost of designing gas-powered cars and trucks that appeal to buyers now while at the same time preparing for a future world of electric and autonomous vehicles. GM announced Monday that it will cut as many as 14,000 workers in North America and put five plants up for possible closure as it abandons many of its car models and restructures to focus more on autonomous and electric vehicles. The reductions could amount to as much as 8 percent of GM's global workforce of 180,000 employees. The cuts mark GM's first major downsizing since shedding thousands of jobs in the Great Recession. The company also said it will stop operating two additional factories outside North America by the end of next year. The move to make GM get leaner before the next downturn likely will be followed by Ford Motor Co., which also has struggled to keep one foot in the present and another in an ambiguous future of new mobility. Ford has been slower to react, but says it will lay off an unspecified number of white-collar workers as it exits much of the car market in favor of trucks and SUVs, some of them powered by batteries. Here's a rundown of the reasons behind the cuts: Coding, not combustion CEO Mary Barra said as cars and trucks become more complex, GM will need more computer coders but fewer engineers who work on internal combustion engines. "The vehicle has become much more software-oriented" with millions of lines of code, she said. "We still need many technical resources in the company." Shedding sedans The restructuring also reflects changing North American auto markets as manufacturers continue to shift away from cars toward SUVs and trucks. In October, almost 65 percent of new vehicles sold in the U.S. were trucks or SUVs. That figure was about 50 percent cars just five years ago. GM is shedding cars largely because it doesn't make money on them, Citi analyst Itay Michaeli wrote in a note to investors. "We estimate sedans operate at a significant loss, hence the need for classic restructuring," he wrote. The reduction includes about 8,000 white-collar employees, or 15 percent of GM's North American white-collar workforce. Some will take buyouts while others will be laid off.
