1977 CHEVROLET SILVERADO STEPSIDE, SHORT BED PICK-UP

I want to start by saying that....I love this truck! I've owned a handful of Chevy Trucks over the years, and this one is the nicest looking 73-79 Stepside that I have ever seen. I purchased this truck 6-7 years ago, with the intent of my son (then 11) falling in love with the vintage car/truck hobby and showing the truck. It was a great idea - safe, with lots of real sheetmetal surrounding the driving position..... and NO back seat!  But somehow the vintage car bug seemed to skip over him, as it seems that now that he is 17, only Porsche's and BMW seem to catch his eye?! GO FIGURE!  However, maybe this is a blessing in disguise, as this truck deserves to be babied and enjoyed.......not taken for granted by a teen who doesn't appreciate it like I did! (when I was growing up, my parents first 'new' vehicle was a '77 GMC pickup, with the same interior as this truck - and I spent many a memorable day in the middle of that giant bench seat with my big brother!).

OK, enough family babble and reminiscing. Now, about THIS truck.... First of all, this is a FULLY LOADED Silverado (top of the line), with LOTS of factory options.....including:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Power Steering
  • Power Disc Brakes
  • Power Windows
  • Power Door Locks
  • Cruise Control
  • Tilt Wheel
  • Dual Gas Tanks
  • Cargo Area Lamp
  • Tinted Glass
  • Wood Bed
  • AM/FM CD Stereo with upgraded speakers
  • 10 Disc CD Changer (behind seat)
  • 17" Coddington Wheels
  • BF Goodrich G-Force Tires
  • Nearly Flawless Interior (seat has tears, but new seatcover is included)
  • and Only 78,310 ORIGINAL miles.

The two obvious flaws are the original vinyl front seat is torn on the drivers side.....and the dented upper and lower grill molding trim pieces.  I have the following replacement parts on order now (and they will be included with this sale):

  • NEW 'upper and lower' grill moldings
  • NEW factory style vinyl seat cover (same color), to replace the current cover with minor tears.

The truck runs great, and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere.  I will say that I have not used/tested the cruise control (it is all hooked up, but I don't know that it works).  This is truly a great find.... and a great buy at the reserve that I have set.  If you want any additional photos or details, please ask!  I am happy to provide you with as much information and detail as you may need to give you confidence in your purchase.

Call with questions (805) 3 nine 1 - 0509.   Or email me, at hotrodranch@live.com.  My name is Scott. I am selling it because I have 18 cars, and need to get down to 10 or so..... I encourage you to view this truck (or have it inspected) BEFORE purchase! It is located in Paso Robles, California (half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco, on CA Hwy 1010. Please do not bid if you don't intend or have the funds to buy. The truck is sold as is without warranty or guarantee. I will reasonably assist with pickup or delivery of truck. All shipping costs will be the responsibility of Buyer. $2000 non-refundable deposit due within 72 hours of auction close. Balance due within 7 days of auction end.

GM diesel pickups first to undergo extra EPA, CARB testing

Tue, Sep 29 2015

The effects of Volkswagen's long-running diesel emissions evasion are starting to spill over to other automakers, but General Motors is taking things in stride. The 2.8-liter, four-cylinder Duramax in the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon is the first engine to get extra scrutiny by the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board, Automotive News reports. Rather than just the usual in-lab test, it's also being checked on the road. However, the extra evaluation shouldn't have any impact on when the trucks with his mill hit dealers later this fall. "We're in our final stages of the EPA certification, and our launch is on track," Chevy spokesperson Otie McKinley tells Autoblog. The four-cylinder diesel in the trucks makes 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and the automaker is touting low NOx production. In the announcement for the Colorado's specs, the company calls it "the cleanest diesel truck engine ever produced by General Motors." The tech includes exhaust gas recirculation to lower combustion temperatures and improve emissions. There's also a urea tank like on the bigger diesels for full-size trucks, and it gets refilled in time with oil changes. An indication on the instrument panel lets drivers know when that's needed, too. Even with the more demanding testing, the company doesn't seem too worried about the four-cylinder passing. "Part of our development process is on-road and off-road [laboratory] testing," Scott Yackley, Chevy Trucks assistant chief engineer, said to Automotive News. In the wake of the VW scandal, the EPA has pledged more rigorous testing. Before, on-road emissions evaluations were largely limited to heavy-duty vehicles, but the agency has decided to apply the checks more often to other models. There's also now greater cooperation with Canadian authorities.

Chevrolet donates 300 vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Super Storm Sandy took out a lot of automobiles in its path of destruction through the Northeast last October. The number surpassed 250,000 at last count, and a few of those were owned by Chevrolet - cars either sitting on dealership lots or waiting at port to be shipped off. Rendered unsellable by the water damage inflicted by Sandy, these vehicles were facing the crusher. But Chevy didn't send them there.
Instead, Chevy had a better idea: It will be donating 300 of these vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders at Guardian Centers in Perry, GA. Chevy is the official automotive partner of Guardian Centers, which is an 830-acre facility that trains first responders in disaster preparedness. Junked cars are practically a consumable commodity there, where a full-size cityscape simulator gives trainees an entire urban center in which to train for all sorts of rescue operations and disaster scenarios.
Chevy says its particular vehicles will be used "in conjunction with role players for wide area searches, traffic congestion in emergency situations, counter terrorism, public order and mass casualty exercises." While grim scenarios all, we're certainly glad there are people out there preparing for the unexpected. While a zombie apocalypse isn't officially on the list of potential disasters to prepare for, when the virus hits, we'll be hot-footing it to Perry, GA to hang with these guys and gals.

These are the five most ridiculous attacks on the Chevy Volt [w/videos]

Thu, Aug 7 2014

It's been a long, strange trip for the Chevy Volt from the time when the now-odd-looking concept version (above) was introduced at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show to today. And now, General Motors announced that the second-generation Chevy Volt will make an appearance at the 2015 Detroit show in January. This debut represents a victory for GM with what has easily become the most politicized car of the 21st Century. There are plenty of reasons for someone to criticize the Volt, but what's amazing is just how much anti-Volt energy has been spent not on things like the styling or how the EREV setup is not as efficient as a pure-EV powertrain. As we wait for more official information on the new Volt, we thought it would be fun to go back and look at some of the most wildly incorrect reporting and strangest attacks on the Volt from the archives. There is so much good stuff out there, it was hard to pare the list down, but these are our five favorites. Amazingly, they're not all clips from Fox News. Check 'em out below. 5. GM Is Going To Stop Making The Chevy Volt In The US Do you remember when GM was about to move Volt production to China? Well, yeah, this was reported back in early 2012 when a GM executive mentioned that the automaker would get benefits of building the Volt in the places where it sells them. This was spun into a story of GM taking Obama bailout money and then running to China. The Blaze was not happy: "Given the fact that Federal government helped itself to millions and millions of taxpayer dollars under the pretense that it was going to combat high unemployment by creating 'green jobs,' it would seem that moving research and development (and possibly manufacturing) overseas is slightly, well, counterproductive." Well, of course, that never happened. There's no way to say that GM will never build a version of the Volt in China, but the news we hear rumors of these days is that GM is going to move production of more Volt parts (specifically, the motors) to Michigan from overseas. 4. The Chevy Volt Is A Fire Trap There has never been a Volt that just spontaneously lit up while driving down the road. Yes, there were Volts that caught on fire. Yes, that's a scary thing. But there has never been a Volt that just spontaneously lit up while driving down the road. These were crashed test vehicles with destroyed batteries and plugged-in vehicles that were not the cause.
