This 84 Chevy C10 has everything. The truck started as an everyday California truck a few years ago, but was tore down to the frame and built backup. The paint has its share of nicks and dings here and there but almost everything on the truck is new.

Started with a blank frame stripped it down and had an 8” step notch welded in the back and notches in the front cut out for a mustang II rack and pinion. Then coated the frame in POR-15 to prevent any rust (not like we’ll see much rain in CA). Once complete assembly began with the following parts

Porterbuilt V2 Dropmember with LSX engine mounts (Power coated silver)

Ridetech tubular upper and lower control arms (painted silver)

Ridetech airbags front and rear

Porterbuilt front sway bar

Belltech drop spindles

KP Components Cantilever 6 link (Power coated silver)

KP Components Watts link (Power coated silver)

Brothers Truck rear 19 gallon fuel cell

Brand new fuel and brake lines ran from master cylinder to each wheel.

The old 305 engine was removed and replaced with a 2006 5.3 w/ 4l60e transmission. The engine was pulled from a wrecked Tahoe with 60k miles on it. A basic tune has been installed, new plugs, MSD wires etc and it runs great! Lokar shift rods adapt the dash shifter to the 4l60e. Steel braided trans lines running from the trans to the cooler.

Since it lays frame when laid out the heater and AC systems were removed and a blocking plate installed on the firewall. To clean up the engine bay and prevent all the road grime from landing on the underside of the hood and engine bay Slosh Tubs fiberglass wheel wells were installed.

It rides on new Boss 330 20x8.5 wheels and tires

Optima battery provides tons of power for the compressors, stereo, engine and accessories; sits under the bed in a drop down battery box.

Interior  -

In the interior, the dash was covered in black leather with red stitching, all the AC/heater vents shaved in the process. New carpet was installed, the headliner is covered in grey suede.

Door panels are from Rod Doors covered in black leather and grey suede accents. Door locks were removed and AVS door popper kit installed. The AVS kit is very nice, no need for 10lb door poppers, fairly quiet when hitting the switches.

Dakota Digital VHX red carbon fiber gauges were installed in the dash and wired up. Ridetech E2 digital gauges monitor the pressure of all 4 air bags with 3 presets.

A Sony stereo with Rockford Fosgate amp and 2x 10” Rockford Fosgate subs make the system sound great! Custom kick panels house 2x 6.5” mids and 2” tweeters.

Bed –

The bed floor was raised 4” new wheel wells installed. Rear Stake holes, rear tailgate skinned and shaved everything coated in bedliner.

2xViair 440 compressors, 8 gallon tank and an Accuair Vu2, Ridetech pressure sensors are mounted in the bed on a custom mount and covered by the fiberglass Snugtop Tonneau.

Exterior –

Handles were shaved, led turn signals up front and rear led tail lights and new lenses. Billet front grill painted front bumper and rear roll pan. New window felts and wind wing rubbers, One Piece Products flush mount rear window.

I don’t really drive this now and looking to sell this to make room for another project. Lost more parts installed, just can’t remember. I have receipts for most everything installed (over 20k), has been fun building, but time to move on. Buyer is responsible for picking up the truck. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Chevy Volt replacement battery cost varies wildly, up to $34,000

Fri, Jan 10 2014

There's a growing hubbub in the plug-in vehicle community over what looks like some ridiculously cheap replacement batteries for the Chevrolet Volt going up for sale. GM Parts Online, for example, is selling a replacement Volt battery with an MSRP of $2,994.64 but, with an online discount, the price comes down to $2,305.88. For the 16-kWh pack in the 2012 Volt, that comes to a very low $144.11 per kilowatt hour (kWH). But is it a real deal? How can it be, when a Chevy dealer may quote you a price of up to $34,000 to replace the pack? For a 16-kWh Volt pack, $2,305.88 comes to a very low $144.11 per kWh. But is it a real deal? Battery packs in alternative propulsion vehicles are usually priced by the kWh and, historically, they've been thought to be in the range of $500-per-kWh for OEM offerings. Since automakers are understandably secretive about their costs, we still don't know what the real number is today, but we do know it varies by automaker. Tesla, for example, has said it pays less than $200-per-kWH at the cell level but, of course, a constructed pack would be more. Whatever is going on, li-ion battery prices are trending downward. So, $144.11 certainly sounds great, but what's the story here? Kevin Kelly, manager of electrification technology communications for General Motors, reminded AutoblogGreen that GM Parts Online is not the official GM parts website and that, "the costs indicated on the site are not what we would charge our dealers or owners for a replacement battery. There would be no cost to the Volt owner if their battery needs replacement or repair while the battery is under the eight year/100,000 mile limited warranty coverage provided by Chevrolet." A single price tag also can't be accurate for everyone, Kelly said. "If the customer needs to have their battery repaired beyond the warranty, the cost to them would vary depending on what needs to be replaced or repaired (i.e. number of modules, which specific internal components need replacement, etc.)." he said. "So, it's hard for us to tell you exactly what the cost would be to the customer because it varies depending on what might need to be repaired/replaced. As a result, the core charge would vary." But, is the $2,300 price even accurate for anyone? Thanks to a reader comment, we see that this similar item on New GM Parts makes it look like the lithium-ion modules that Kelly mentioned – where a lot of the expensive bits are – are not included.

Former Fisker CEO has some advice for Tesla Motors

Wed, Oct 22 2014

Former Fisker Automotive CEO and ex-Chevrolet Volt vehicle-line director Tony Posawatz has some words of caution for Tesla Motors. The long-time automaker executive questions the California automaker's long-term viability – and gives some praise – in a talk with Benzinga, which you can listen to below. While the all-wheel-drive D that Tesla unveiled earlier this month in Southern California wowed a packed crowd, Posawatz (starting at around minute 4:45 in the interview) says Tesla would've been better off taking the resources it expended toward that Model S upgrade and directed them towards speeding up the development of a more affordable plug-in. Perhaps a number of investors agreed, since the company's stock fell the day after the D was announced. Posawatz says Tesla has been over-reliant on the sale of ZEV credits. Posawatz also says that Tesla has been over-reliant on the sale of zero-emissions vehicle credits in California for its earnings and questions whether the automaker will ever work at a large enough scale to sufficiently drive down costs and make consistent profits. Tesla CEO Elon Musk would take issue with this characterization. Posawatz first made his mark in the plug-in vehicle world when he was the vehicle-line director at General Motors for the Volt extended-range plug-in from 2006 to 2012. Later that year, he joined extended-range plug-in maker Fisker Automotive as its CEO, though quit that job during the summer of 2013 as the company was descending into insolvency. He joined the Electrification Coalition this past March. News Source: Benzinga Green Chevrolet Fisker Tesla Electric PHEV Tony Posawatz

Take a close look at the guts of the Chevy Volt battery, powertrain

Sat, Aug 9 2014

Just how intimate would you like to get with the powertrain in a Chevy Volt? If you're anything like YouTube user d55guy, then spending a half hour filming yourself taking apart the battery pack, motor, inverter and more for a look inside sounds like your idea of fun. After all, this way you get to see the cooling system, the heavy safety kill switch and count up the individual cells in the battery modules. Fun! Turns out, we also enjoy languidly paced Volt dissection video goodness, and we think you might want to see it as well. So, we've embedded two videos below and if you don't have a better understanding of how the Volt is put together after watching them, well, at least you can't say we never tried to show you anything. Given that what's really happening here is the organized 'destruction' of an expensive and potentially dangerous object, let's talk safety. There's a serious disclaimer at the beginning of the videos and on the YouTube description page, but we feel the need to repeat the gist of it here: do not try this at home. The creator of the video says he is a trained engineer and has been doing things like this "for the better part of a decade," so he apparently knows what he's doing. With that in mind, watch it all below. When you're done seeing the insides of a Volt powertrain up close, if you need more filmed EV dissection/destruction, check out this video designed for first responders approaching a damaged Tesla Model S.
