One Owner Survivor

Hello in eBay land.  I have a great find for you!  This is a 1963 1/2 ton Chevrolet Long Box C-10 with the original 283 V8 and all of its original paint too.  Other than the seat, this truck is all factory original including the paint.

I found this truck in the barn on a farm just like one would expect.  It had not been started or moved since at least 1990.  I doubt if it was used much before then either.  The plates are original Pacific Wonderland and the bumper still has the brand of the local Chevy dealer that sold it new.

I fell in love with the truck right away.  It was far from perfect and still is..  The bones are what I look for in a find like this one.  The fact that a vehicle is only original once motivates me to buy these whenever I find them.  I mean really, how many like this are out there anymore?  I hope that what I did to it and what I purposefully didn’t do will help tell the story and give the new buyer either a starting point or a finished truck depending on their desire.

The fact that the truck only had one owner is another check in the plus column for this Chevrolet..  Unfortunately, the owner died and I didn’t get to talk to him about the truck.  I bought it from his estate and had it towed to my shop.

The seat was all ripped up, the brakes were frozen, the gas in the tank was past old, the shocks were solid, and it had not been started in an eon.  I had some work to do..  We first pulled the seat out and sent it to the upholsterer’s so he could source the material and get it looking right again.  Next we removed the gas tank and sent it out to be cleaned and sealed.  While this was happening away from the shop we got started on the brakes and shocks.  I also pulled the carburetor and personally rebuilt it.  (I wish all carbs were this simple).

We also started polishing the finish.  It really came back nice..  Yes, there is a lot of patina..  I wouldn’t change any of it..  You can’t make a truck look like this on purpose..  It takes 50 years of life to do it.  The truck is really quite solid.  It has lived its whole life in Oregon and even though it rains..  (a lot)  we don’t salt the roads and vehicles remain pretty rust free around here.  There are a few spots that I pictured that would be easy to fix, but I wanted to show the truck honestly and let the next owner decide how far to go with the truck’s restoration.  The passenger front corner of the hood has some, there is a hole in the driver’s rocker panel, and there is a hole on the inside of the tailgate.  Under the tail edge of the passenger door there is a hole too.   That’s all I could find though.  The floor boards are solid and so is the frame.

The wood bed is also original and has some soft wood and splits..  It’s totally useable, but also easy to replace too.  If I was keeping the truck that would be my first “do it yourself” project..

I should take a second and talk about the engine.  Just from an aesthetic point of view it is really stunning.  Totally clean and original..  Simple and pretty and factory in every way.

Once we got the tank back and the carb was back in place we added fuel, installed a new battery and gave her a crank..  She started immediately and ran as smooth as anybody could hope.  I cannot say enough about the motor in this truck..  The engine is rock solid.  It does not move at all.  It revs smoothly and delivers even power too.  No leaks no smoking no issues at all..  Plus its gorgeous.

I couldn’t wait to drive it so I jumped in on a bucket to check out the rest of it..  I’m sure the new brakes and shocks helped out but I was really impressed.  The clutch is perfect as are all the syncros and even though there is no power steering or brakes, it is super easy to drive..  (even sitting on a bucket J..)

The heater works, the blinkers work, the lights all work, the cool wipers work..  I was grinning from ear to ear..

I got the seat back a few days later and wow..  I mean show truck wow..  I put it in and we were finished..

To sum up, this is an original patina 1963 Chevrolet with a perfect seat and beautiful engine.  It may look old and tattered to some, but that is the point..  It runs and drives runs like a dream.

This C-10 has a ton of vintage appeal and will surely be one to hold on to for future appreciation.

I am setting the reserve very low and I know the Chevrolet will sell the first go around as long as we all play by these rules.

#1.  Only bid if you have intentions to buy.

#2. Ask any and all questions before bidding.

#3. Please contact me BEFORE BIDDING if you have zero or negative feedback.

#4. This is an AS-IS sale.  I have done my best to describe it exactly as I see it but it has no warranties or guarantees.

#5. I will not accept Pay-Pal for the balance payment of the truck.  Pay-Pal is for the deposits only, the balance must be paid by certified check or wire.  Legitimate and legal buyers only please.

Just be real and genuine and I will make sure that the winning bidder is happy with his or her purchase.  I have 100% positive feedback and I plan on keeping that.  Also, I will end the sale for the right offer so don’t wait till the last second and worry about missing out.  Just call me and we will work out a fair price..

GM profits threatened by glut of pickups

Wed, 05 Dec 2012

Automotive News reports that General Motors may slash production or ramp up discounts in order to deal with an oversupply of pickup trucks. GM currently has more than double the standard supply of pickups, and the vehicles are threatening to dampen the automaker's profits for 2013. Typically, automakers try to sustain a 60- to 75-day supply of vehicles, but GM is currently loaded with a 139-day supply, as of last month. At the end of November, the automaker was sitting on 245,853 units.
The manufacturer says that it will adjust production accordingly before laying any incentives on the profitable pickups. Even so, there's some concern that the inventory swell could hurt the roll-out of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. GM actually began slowly stepping back production in August, but it's clear the company will take further action as it heads toward the end of the year and into the next. Analysts predict the automaker could reduce pickup manufacturing by nearly half in the first quarter of 2013.
That still may not be enough to keep GM from laying extra cash on the Silverado and GMC Sierra. While the company's incentive spending was down in November compared to the same month in 2011, both the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 saw double-digit percentage increases in sales last month while the Silverado and Sierra numbers slid compared to a year prior. Incentive spending could help move more trucks and add some balance to the GM inventory surge.

Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon get updated tachometers due to graphical error

Sun, Feb 8 2015

After James Bearing bought a Chevrolet Colorado, he noticed a discrepancy between the truck's spec sheet and the truck's tachometer: Chevrolet said 3.6-liter V6 in the little pickup produces 305 horsepower at 6,800 rpm, but the the tachometer indicates a redline at 6,500 rpm. So either he wasn't making as much power as he was promised, or the tachometer display was incorrect. Bearing said he asked Chevy about it but got no response. Until now. A General Motors spokesman said the rev limiter is indeed set for 6,800 rpm, but the tach graphics "are slightly off" in the Colorado and the GMC Canyon, and submitted an SAE horsepower certification to back him up. If you're wondering how such a thing got past quality control... well, let's just say you're not alone. GM is going to fix "the graphics on future trucks," which makes it sound like Bearing will just have to learn to live with the indicated redline he's got. He could always pretend he's driving a sleeper, with four more ponies waiting to be unlocked in the danger zone for those who dare. Chevy Corvette Stingray picks up another award, this time from Automobile

Mon, 18 Nov 2013

The new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has picked up another buff book accolade after capturing Road and Track's Performance Car of the Year award. The seventh-generation of America's sports car (sorry Viper, Mustang, et al.) has been named Automobile Magazine's Automobile of the Year.
Automobile's award to the Corvette over competitors is the mirror image of its rival Motor Trend, which named the Cadillac CTS its car of the year over the C7. The CTS was, according to the Automobile team, the closest contender to the mighty Stingray. Great news all around for General Motors it seems.
As for what pushed the Corvette past its distant, four-door cousin, Automobile commended its excellent, 6.2-liter V8 calling the car's performance "simply awesome" while also remarking that it is easier to drive fast than ever before thanks to steering and chassis tweaks. Following a theme set by other publications, there were also plaudits for the interior, of all things, with the buff book complimenting the car's ergonomics and material quality, while also praising the standard seats.
