"Where were you in '62"  - as the advertisements for 'American Graffiti'  use to say. Well, in 1962 this beautiful Chevy C10 shortbed pickup was created. There are many classic pickup's for sale here on Ebay, but what sets this apart from so many others is that it has been in California since day one. In fact, I have restored the "black plates" which have been on this since 1963 !

The truck was painted a urethane 2 stage teal metallic that is vibrant and classic at the same time. The paint looks fantastic and gets compliments all the time. Out back I chose to have world famous  'Gaylords' make a fiberglass hard tonneau cover , then painted it to match the rest of the truck.  Inside the bed is as clean as the rest . Stained and multi varnished oak wood strips , separated with chromed steel dividers really give detail . It is what you would expect from a vehicle this clean.

Inside the cab has the dash, cab, and doors painted body color. The seat was upholstered in a black leather and velour. In is very comfortable and will not hurt your back after a long road trip .  The seat legs, emergency brake handle, accelerator pedal rod, and brake pedal rod were chrome plated for that extra added  touch of detail.  All of the glass is in excellent condition. windows easily roll up and down like they should. The heater, windshield wipers, lights, turn signals work perfectly. Accessory gauges were install to insure accuracy . They include Amp, Oil pressure, and Temperature.  Carpet is black and has floor mats.

The engine is a very strong running 350 with 5,000 miles. It has a 4 barrel carb and HEI distributor. The compression ratio is at 9:1 so that it can operate on pump fuel. A very mild RV cam was installed so that extra power and reliability can be insured. Nothing too radical. Longevity was the objective with the build.  The transmission is a TH 400 automatic. The shift linkage is connected to the original column shift. I wanted everything original in appearance but with modern amenities. One can literally drive this truck anywhere on the planet. I say that with certainty folks!  The truck can sit in the garage for weeks, yet when you get in it, turn the key, she'll start up every time - just like a Timex watch!

Dual exhaust is a must with a vehicle like this. A set of magna flow mufflers were installed, and exhaust exits out of the rear - just under the bumper. A pair of chrome "pea shooter" tips complete the look out back.

As for wheels and tires, I opted to go with a classic look. Champ Pro 235x75x15 radials with thin white walls , and steel wheels with beauty rings and "dog dish" hubcaps give the pickup a great feel and retro style.

There you go folks. There has been a lot of money spent on this beautiful pickup over the years, but I am willing to let this go at a fraction of that amount. If you like what you see, are serious, and not a tire kicker, give me a call. I am open to reasonable offers  . Partial trade might be considered. I reserve the right to end auction at any time. Ask all questions prior to bidding and/or purchasing . All sales are final. There are no warrantee's , exchanges, or refunds.  I know of two very reasonable & reputable auto transport companies. Buyer pays for shipping, and I will see to it that the truck arrives in a safe and prompt manner. I will gladly ship this anywhere in the world. Feel free to call me any time - day or night. Thanks and have a wonderful day, Alex (909)-437-2068

Helicopter crashes on Top Gear Korea set while chasing Corvette ZR1

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

The formula of Top Gear Korea is seemingly about the same as it is everywhere else in the world, including the flagship British original: involve interesting cars in fantastical situations with charismatic hosts. That prescription has proved to be pretty reliable over the years, and has lead to some truly memorable and exciting pieces of television.
Something like that was undoubtedly what the Korean producers were after when they lined up this segment - a drag race between a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and an AH1 Cobra military helicopter. The planners almost certainly did not expect the filming of the segment to go quite as wrong as it actually did, with the helicopter actually crashing into the dirt after the "drag race" had been completed. Thankfully, we're told that no one was seriously injured in the crash, but the footage, in the video below, is pretty damn chilling to watch, nevertheless.

What car should James Robertson buy to drive his famous 21-mile commute?

Thu, Feb 5 2015

The Internet has been abuzz this week with the story of Detroit resident James Robertson, the 56-year-old factory worker who has walked some 21 miles to work for the last 10 years. The Detroit Free Press brought Robertson's story to the fore, helping an online fundraising campaign to generate more than $275,000 (as of this writing). The original goal was just $5,000, or about enough to replace the used Honda that died on Robertson back in 2005, and left him walking. So, newly flush with funds, what's the perfect car for Robertson to buy? Let's look at the specifics of his situation, and try to pick out the best options. Here's what we know: Robertson's commute is (famously) 21 miles; he lives in downtown Detroit (for now) and seems pretty humble, so something very flashy is probably out; former Honda aside, his ties to the city (and statements about being a Ford fan) seem to indicate a Detroit Three company product is best; he's a single guy with a girlfriend; he's got to deal with Michigan weather, and the sometimes fickle snow removal processes in The D. Here are some choices: Ford F-150 Robertson is on record as being a Taurus fan, and after a decade of walking I've no doubt that the big sedan would offer a cozy respite. Still, as a car guy and a student of the industry, I'd have a hard time recommending a sedan so clearly in need of replacement. Especially when The Blue Oval has such great stuff within the rest of its roster. The 2015 F-150 seems almost perfect for Robertson. Opting for either of the new EcoBoost V6 engines should help keep fuel bills in reasonable check, while healthy ride height and four-wheel drive will get him to work on time even during the snowiest of snow days. Better still, with a fat options sheet and car-like ride quality, Robertson can have just about every amenity he might want, in a package that won't disrespect his blue-collar roots. Chevrolet Colorado You guys saw this one coming, right? The smaller footprint of the midsize Chevy pickup, relative to some of the other options here, should be an advantage for urban parking and driving. And again, 4x4 is an option for the nasty weather, the running costs should stay pretty low and there aren't many tech/luxury features that can't be had in-cabin. I'd go ahead and splash out on the Crew Cab bodystyle, too, just in case Robertson feels like starting a carpool.

GM dealers unhappy about pickup prices

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

The backlash is beginning. Following General Motors' price hike of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra last week, dealers across the country are expressing their ire over increasing prices in the face of rebates and discounts on trucks from Ford and Ram.
Speaking to Automotive News, Sam Pilato, the general manager at Dimmitt Chevrolet in Clearwater, FL, Silverados are "selling very poorly." W. Carrol Smith, the president of Monument Chevrolet in the heart of truck country, Texas, said, "[GM's] position is that the vehicle stands on its own and it doesn't need a bigger rebate. That's not what the market is telling us."
According to AN, that's the general attitude amongst Chevy and GMC dealers across the country, where the twin pickups are getting butchered in sales by competitors offering up to $9,000 off their sticker prices. Part of the problem for GM is that its trucks are arriving on the market near the end of the current F-150's lifecycle, a fact that Ford has taken advantage of.
