NOTE: The Experian report indicates a title problem, and I just noticed this. Looking back to 2008, New Mexico DMV left off the mileage on the title transfer paperwork. I am going to battle with DMV on 9/9/13, and expect this to be a major headache. The odometer is accurate, and has never had a problem.
Up for bid is my '92 Blazer K1500, mostly original condition, and yes, I am the original owner. This is a smoke free, pet free vehicle. The '92 was Peterson's 4-Wheel & Off- road magazines' 4x4 of the year, and I am including the original February 1992 edition of that magazine. Of course, I also have the window sticker, all receipts for 21 years, and a spreadsheet where I logged all maintenance and repairs. Even the GM-UAW "Made in the U.S.A." gloves that came with the spare are near mint (for you aficionados). This is really a nice running, superb off-road vehicle and reliable as any from this era. It starts in a few milleseconds, even after sitting unused for a few weeks. I've used it seldom in the past several years, and my average mileage per year is < 7500.
I have never had any problems with the engine, transmission or drivetrain, including the 4x4 system. It runs and drives mostly like it did 21 years ago. The transmission has been serviced regularly. When I recently replaced the spark plugs, all 8 had consistent and normal wear (picture available on request). The problems I've had have been typical: water pump, radiator, heater core, warped rotors, starter, PS pump/hoses, etc. It does not leak oil or fluids, however, like most old 350's, oil seeps out the gaskets and seals.
Cosmetically, there are a few issues. From a hailstorm in 2009, it got dinged up on the hood and top, mostly. The original paint was flaking and fading on these surfaces, so I replaced the hood and painted it, along with the top and luggage rack. The paint, Rustoleum Pro, is now showing spider web cracks, so it really needs to be repainted eventually. I should have listened to the pros advice. Still, it looks better than before. There are only a few small dings as a result of the hail, most are on the roof and out of sight. Basically, it is ready for a fresh paint job, if you are seeking a cosmetically perfect car.
I purchased it from Watson Chevy in Tucson, AZ and it has been with me in the Southwest the whole time, except for 1 year in Idaho. No accidents - no rust, except on the surface of frame and some under-carriage parts. I've taken it on jeep roads and it excels, plus it is very comfortable.
So, here is list of the good, bad, and ugly.
- The good: 4x4 used but never abused, no accidents, engine & drivetrain are outstanding, very clean interior, last year of NO airbags, 1st year of new body style, maintenance log available upon request, < 14k miles on the BFGs, tows RVs no problem, beautiful dash (always covered it), replaced ext. trim moulding with factory GM, carpet and seats are 9.8 out of 10 (no stains, no rips, just some normal snow melt aging). The A/C is ice cold, but noisy at idle. No rattles or squeaks. Aftermarket muffler has a moderate throaty sound, and this is the 3rd muffler.
- The Bad: cruise control recently quit, suffered some hail damage in 2009 as stated above, a few tears in the headliner that can be repaired, original wheels have fogged clearcoat, rear electric hatch release needs adjustment. That's about it.
- The Ugly: peeling chrome on the front grill, and this was a replacement 19 years ago, some warping on interior plastic,
Also, the car didn't come with rear defrost in the back glass, and I shattered the glass backing out of my garage with the lid up. The replacement was the defrost style, so I bought the switch for the dash with the intention to hook it all up. Never got around to that.
What does it need? The wheels haven't been aligned for a long time, (does not pull) so it might be a good idea just for the sake of tire wear. I believe the noise from the A/C means air in the system, so it might need servicing if the noise bugs you. Doors have normal sag and I have new hinge pins, just haven't got around to it. C/C malfunction is likely the stalk - I think. There may be some other minor things that I just can't think of at this time.
I'm not presenting this car as a trophy, like-new condition vehicle. It is not perfect, but if you are looking for an original owner, well cared for and documented car, there might not be many '92 Blazers that run this well with low mileage like this one. This year of Blazer seems to be highly sought after. I know everything about the car, and I'll tell you everything I know. No mysterious history. I will be listing locally, so I reserve the right to end this auction upon local sale. Local pickup preferred, and you will have to arrange for delivery if desired. Thanks for checking.

These are 2014's best-selling cars and trucks
Tue, Jan 6 2015Now that 2014 is no more than a set of numbers on spreadsheets, at last, the grist mill gets its first real load to chew on. The number one selling vehicle in America last year was the Ford F-Series, a fact that should surprise you only if your family name is Van Winkle and your naps tend to last 38 years, which is how long the Ford pickup has ruled our buying landscape. Even though series sales were down 1.3 percent, it still racked up 753,851 units. That's 2,065.3 sales per day, every day, all year. The Chevrolet Silverado, up 10.3 percent for the year, was still a daylight second at 529,755 units. The cab-and-bed love continued into third place with the Ram 1500-3500 trucks, gaining 23.6-percent year-on-year to clock 439,789 units. The robust turnout at The Bighorn and Jeep helped Fiat-Chrysler increase its sales by 16 percent, past the two-million mark. Our number one car? The Toyota Camry, staying in first place with a 4.9-percent sales boost to 428,606 sales, trailed again by the Honda Accord at number five with 388,374 sales. Accord sales rose six percent, and if it's any consolation to Honda for coming in second - not that it needs one - it is the only manufacturer to have three vehicles in the top ten. The rest of the list: the Nissan Altima with 335,644 sales (+4.7%), the Honda CR-V with 355,019 (+10.2%), the Toyota Corolla/Matrix combo with 339,498 (+5.9%), the Honda Civic with 325,981 (-3.1%), and the Ford Fusion with 306,860 sales (+2.9%). Total sales for the year were up six percent to 16.5 million vehicles, a volume not seen since 2006, aided by a strong December that was up by 11 percent year-on-year. Ford was the top selling brand overall but sales didn't really budge from 2013, while Subaru rocketed up 21 percent to finish with 513,693 sales. At the precious end, BMW, Audi, Porsche and Land Rover all had record years, and Kelley Blue Book thinks we could be looking at 17 million sales for the next two or three years. Looks like it's time to start making hay again... Watch the live reveal of the 2014 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra [UPDATE]
Thu, 13 Dec 2012UPDATE: The trucks have been revealed. Click here for all of the official details.
As promised, Chevrolet and GMC are offering a live webcast of the world premiere for the all-new 2014 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500. After being teased with spy shots and blurry images like the one above for ages, now is the time to see the trucks in the metal, for real (well, as 'real' as it gets on a webcast, at any rate).
Shift your eyes down just below to see the reveal as it happens, starting at 9:30 AM EST. We anticipate having loads of images full technical information to share after the webcast, too, so truck aficionados should stay tuned. We'll also be bringing you live images of both trucks too, when we see them on the show floor at next month's Detroit Auto Show.
Surprise! GM putting aluminum in next-gen pickups
Wed, Aug 5 2015Last month, General Motors launched a series of ads touting the benefits of steel over aluminum – specifically, with regard to the Chevy Silverado versus the Ford F-150. (Kind of. We're not sure what a grizzly bear has to do with anything.) We took issue with the ads, with editor in chief Mike Austin saying they "reek of insecurity, and distract from the Silverado's strengths that could be used for positive advertising." But what bothers us more, is that yet another report surfaced claiming anti-aluminum GM will indeed use the weight-saving material in its next-generation fullsize trucks. On Tuesday, GM announced a $877-million investment for its truck plant in Flint, MI. But Reuters says that huge overhaul is because the trucks will use "substantially different equipment than the tools GM uses today." The report specifically states, "People familiar with the company's plans say GM's next-generation pickups and SUVs will make use of various materials, including aluminum and lightweight steel, to shed weight and gain fuel efficiency to meet tougher federal standards." The Silverado already uses a few aluminum components in the engine and hood, and if more widespread use will help GM build its best fullsize trucks ever, then that's great. Honestly, we have no reason to doubt that aluminum will be used in the next Silverado and GMC Sierra. We just hope GM remembers that nothing is ever truly deleted from the bowels of the Internet when it launches the subsequent "look how great aluminum is!" campaign.
