THIS WAS A TRUE LABOR OF LOVE.  WE STARTED BY GUTTING THE K5.  WE STARTED THE REBUILD BY ADDING HEAT RESISTANT CARPET PAD.  THEN WE ADDED NEW CARPET FRONT AND REAR.  ALL THE SEATS WERE REDONE.  NEW SEAT BELTS WERE ADDED, NEW DASH PAD INSTALLED, NEW DOOR PANELS, NEW SUN VISORS, NEW BLUETOOTH STEREO, ALL NEW SPEAKERS, CENTER CONSOLE REDONE, NEW DASH LAMPS, NEW HEADLINER.  ALL THE POWER WINDOWS WORK.  WE HAD THE MOTORS REPLACED AND EVEN THE BACK WINDOW WORKS.  WE HAD THE AC COMPLETELY REDONE.  KEEPS YOU COLD EVEN DOWN HERE IN FLORIDA.  THE INSIDE LOOKS REALLY SHARP.

WE THEN MOVED ONTO THE ENGINE.  NEW MOTOR MOUNTS WERE INSTALLED, NEW FLOWMASTERS, THE FRONT END WAS GONE THROUGH AND NEW TIRE RODS, BRAKES, ROTORS AND HUBS WERE REPLACED.  THE ENGINE WAS GONE OVER BY A SPEED SHOP AND ANYTHING THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WAS.  THERE WAS A COMPLETE TUNE UP DONE.  THE ONLY NEGATIVE IT THE GAS GUAGE.  WHEN IT SAYS 1/4 OF A TANK IT MEANS EMPTY.

DOWN TO THE LOCAL TIRE SHOP FOR NEW RIMS AND GOODRICH TA TIRES  33/10.50/15 WERE INSTALLED.  ONTO PAINT.  HAD THE K5 PAINTED TO A SHARP LOOKING RED AND WHITE COMBINATION.  WE HAD THE INSIDE EVEN PAINTED.  WHEREVER YOU PARK YOU WILL DRAW A CROWD.  IT'S THAT SHARP!

AS YOU CAN GUESS FROM READING THE DESCRIPTION THERE WAS AN AWFUL LOT OF MONIES AND TIME PUT INTO OUR K5.  WE USUALLY JUST USE IT TO GO OUT TO EAT OR GO TO THE MOVIES.  I DROVE IT TO ORLANDO RECENTLY AND AT 70 YOU CAN LET GO OF THE WHEEL AND IT TRACKS DEAD ON.  WE ARE MOVING INTO THE CITY AND THE K5 NEEDS TO FIND A NEW HOME.  WE HAVE IT SERIOUSLY UNDERPRICED SO I WOULD CONSIDER THE LOW BUY IT NOW PRICE RATHER THAN TAKE A CHANCE ON A BIDDING WAR WITH SOMEBODY.   I WILL BE HAPPY TO ASSIST YOU IN THE SHIPPING PROCESS IF YOU WANT TO USE A MOVING COMPANY. I'M NOT LOOKING FOR ANY TRADES.   PLEASE ONLY BID IF YOU HAVE THE FINANCIAL ABILITY TO DO SO.  I WOULD HATE FOR SOMEBODY WHO REALLY HAS BEEN DREAMING ABOUT A REALLY NICE K5 TO LOSE OUT TO A BIDDER WHO DOES NOT HAVE THE MONIES.  GOOD LUCK AND PLEASE CALL WITH ANY QUESTIONS  CHUCK 386 547 7122

800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.

GM recalling nearly 4,000 vehicles over airbag concerns

Thu, 31 Jan 2013

Four different General Motors vehicles from the 2012 model year are being recalled over a potential airbag issue. The driver's side airbag shorting bar in the 2012 Buick Verano and 2012 Chevrolet Camaro, Cruze and Sonic might make contact with the airbag terminals, even during a crash. If so, the airbag won't deploy when it should, possibly increasing injury to the driver.
The recall is expected to begin on February 13 for the 3,896 units that might be affected. GM will notify owners who can then take their vehicles to dealers to have the airbag coil replaced. A bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration below has more info.

Here's why automakers roll out those Texas-themed pickup trucks

Thu, Sep 29 2016

Every year, automakers with a full-size truck link make a big show of the Texas State Fair, usually involving a reveal of a new model. Sometimes they show a whole new truck, and other times a special edition centered on the Lone Star state. While some people might write this off as a quirk of the industry, others might be wondering, "What's the big deal with Texas?" As it turns out, part of the big deal with Texas is big truck sales. According to Dave Sullivan, product analysis manager at AutoPacific, Texas buys more trucks than any other state in the country. It's not a small margin either. Edmunds.com, one in five trucks sold in the US are sold in Texas. The state also accounts for 15 percent of the country's large truck sales, which is more than twice that of California, the second largest truck market in America. Even when you break down sales only in Texas, trucks are a huge piece of the pie - Sullivan says that a quarter of new vehicle sales in Texas are trucks. One in five trucks sold in the US are sold in Texas. But it's not just sales that make truck builders give attention to Texas. As Sullivan explained, "Pickups are life in Texas." Both he and Hugh Milne, marketing and advertising manager for the Chevy Silverado line, said that trucks are key fixtures in Texas society, as both work trucks and luxury vehicles (or Texas Cadillacs as Milne called them). Milne said Texas is so important in the truck market that if you want to be successful in the rest of the country, "you've got to be successful in Texas." As for the State Fair, it has become a prime location for reveals in part because of the importance of the Texas market and because of how big the fair is. Milne also revealed that the State Fair also hosts its own auto show, so it's an ideal venue for a vehicle introduction. So there you have it. Why do truck builders obsess over Texas? It's because Texas obsesses over trucks. When you have one market that loves your product that much, you give it the attention it deserves.
