For your buying pleasure is a beautiful 54 Chevy Bel Aire that was originally sold in Tennessee, later discovered in  Dallas, and restored (on frame) in 2002. The car was rated as a #2 car by an independent appraiser  after restoration in 2002.  The appraiser said the car had excellent black paint and good to excellent chrome. Currently, the paint has minor chips from being driven (but is still a 5 footer. This is not a trailer queen.) The interior was restored with original style gray vinyl with patterned inserts on the seats.  The door panels and headliner are in good condition, carpet is in good condition but needs some refitting. All dash gauges work except the clock. The restored trunk area is clean and in the original style.  Original radio has been replaced with AM/FM radio (original radio included with car).

The engine is a 235 cu in 6 cylinder that has been converted to 12 volt with a new chrome alternator and battery.  The engine runs well with no known defects   A new glass pack muffler gives a deep throaty sound (but splitting the manifold would help it sound really great!.) A new clutch, pressure plate and throw-out bearing were changed at restoration. The " three on a tree" manual transmission shifts well. Brakes and steering are also in good condition. (Would handle easier with power steering.) Air shocks were added to the rear to improve the ride. The car is well optioned with a rare factory spotlight, fog lights, fender emblems, grille and trunk guards, sun visor, exhaust tip, fender skirts and window vent shades. It has Firestone wide whitewalls and full hubcaps.

The car has done well at local car shows taking trophies, including mayor's choice, two peoples choice, top 10 & 25 among those received.  The car needs a little TLC but it looks great as is. Seller will assist in getting car transported at buyers expense. Vehicle may be examined prior to down payment.

Winning bidder must provide a non-refundable deposit of $250 within 48 hours of sale (prefer Pay Pal) and balance within 10  business days.  Remaining balance funds will be cash or certified check. Funds must clear sellers bank before car or title is released. The car  is for sale locally and may be removed from auction without notice. Thank you for looking!

Buick takes top spot in 2022 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

Tue, Jun 28 2022

People, economies, and supply chains weren't the only things continuing to get sick over the past year. The 2022 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS) is out, showing the average rate of problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the first 90 days of ownership increased overall. The average figure for the 32 ranked manufacturers in 2020 was about 166 problems per 100 vehicles. In the 2021 IQS, that dropped to an average of 162. This year, the average jumps to 180 problems. J.D. Power says that figure is a record high over the 36-year history of the study. Buick leapt to the top of the rankings this year with the fewest issues, at 139 problems per 100 vehicles in the first 100 days of ownership. After Dodge became the first American automaker to lead the IQS in 2020, followed by Ram in 2021, this year marks a three-peat for U.S. carmakers. Dodge took second this year at 143 PP100, Chevrolet third with 147 PP100, Genesis the first luxury maker on the chart in fourth with 156 PP100. Between February and May, this year's study gathered responses to 223 questions from more than 84,000 new 2022-model-year car owners and lessees. The questions are designed to zero in on real-world problems new owners encounter with nine categories of vehicle features: Infotainment; features, controls and displays; exterior; driving assistance; interior; powertrain; seats; driving experience; and climate. As has been the case in the past few year, infotainment has proved to be the most problematic bugbear making scores worse. Considering features individually, six of 10 of the worst problem areas dealt with infotainment, causing infotainment's score of 45 PP100 to be 19.5 PP100 worse than the second-placed feature. Consumers ranked getting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to connect reliably as the most troublesome.  GM didn't just score with Buick, which was one of only nine of the 33 ranked brands to show improvement this year. The conglomerate earned first place with the fewest PP100 among all the automaker groups, and scored the most model-level awards with nine, ahead of BMW with eight and Hyundai Group with three.  This year's study again showed a gap between luxury and mass-market makers, thought to be down to the amount of tech in luxury vehicles that consumers aren't properly informed about or that doesn't act as expected — that latter issue exacerbated by the chip shortage.

General Motors Recalls Nearly 780,000 Cars To Fix Deadly Problem

Thu, Feb 13 2014

General Motors is recalling nearly 780,000 compact cars in North America because the engines can shut down unexpectedly and cause crashes. The company says six people have been killed in crashes related to the problem. The recall affects Chevrolet Cobalts and Pontiac G5s from the 2005 through 2007 model years. U.S. safety regulators say the weight of the key ring and rough roads can move the ignition switch out of the run position, cutting the engine and electricity. If that happens, air bags may not work. GM says there have been 22 crashes from the problem. All happened at high speeds. Dealers will replace the ignition switch for free. GM says owners should remove nonessential items from key rings until the problem is fixed. '84 MotorWeek Cherokee, Bronco and Blazer comparison indulges your SUV nostalgia

Fri, Jan 16 2015

These days, truck-based, full-frame SUVs are somewhat of a rarity on the auto landscape due to the rapid rise in popularity of easier-driving, car-based crossovers. Although, without the gradually building popularity of these chunky, high-riding vehicles decades ago, it's unlikely that America's roads would be filled with so many CUVs today. In its latest dig into the archives, MotorWeek has found a 1984 comparison test of a trio of these early Sport Utility Wagons, as long-time host John Davis called them, that helped get acceptance of this segment going. This is a red, white and blue test of the SUVs from American automakers at the time and pits the Chevrolet Blazer, Ford Bronco and Jeep Cherokee (specifically in Wagoneer guise) against each other. Driving manners and interior usability are considered in the evaluation, but Motorweek actually takes these vehicles off road, too. Among the bigger revelations is the improvement in on-road ability in the past 30 years. While specific 0-60 times aren't given, all three models take around 10 seconds just to get to around 50 miles per hour in the 500-feet on-ramp acceleration test. Check out this clip to see just how far this segment has progressed in the past three decades or just get a blast of nostalgia from these now vintage models.
