SELLER REMARKS |

The backbone of the old car hobby is nostalgia, and the driving force behind this gorgeous 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible is a man re-creating his first new car. It's something we've all longed to do, and the result is a very attractive and very road-worthy ragtop that hits all the right buttons.
The car's original colors were changed to Gypsy Red and India Ivory because that's how the restorer's first car was clothed. It was purchased specifically for this build and fully restored in 2001 using parts from a donor car to make sure that as many parts as possible were OEM. Finish quality is extremely good, probably better than new, and thanks to hours and hours spent blocking, sanding, and aligning the sheetmetal, it looks ready to show. This was definitely not some home restoration project, but rather an expensive undertaking using professional shops, and it shows in the brilliant final finish. The surface is glossy and smooth, and despite being almost 15 years old, the car looks amazingly fresh. Most of the chrome and stainless trim was replaced when the car was reassembled, but things like the door handles and fender spears were borrowed from that donor car to keep it looking authentic. This is a seriously nice car.
The two tone red and white interior was also restored to match that mythical car from decade ago and like the exterior, the workmanship is impressive. Correct seat covers, reproduction door panels, new carpets, and just about everything else remains in first-class condition. The beautifully restored steering wheel highlights a very high-quality interior, and details like the bright metal instrument panel and restored gauge cluster make it a delight to sit in the driver's seat. A/C was added during the restoration and uses subtle outlets under the dash, but interestingly enough, there is no radio and it uses a factory block-off plate to retain a clean look. There's a white power convertible top overhead and it stows beneath a matching white boot to give the car a clean look, top up or top down. The trunk was also nicely detailed with a correct rubber mat and a matching fifth wheel with correct jack assembly.
The engine is a correct early 265 cubic inch V8 that was taken from the parts car that came with the convertible. Interestingly enough, that donor vehicle was an air-conditioned station wagon, so while the compressor is modern, experts will note that this car has the correct oil filter in the proper location for an air conditioned car. A modern alternator is probably a smart upgrade, too, and it was all detailed to a very high standard before being reassembled. Chevy Orange paint, a correct oil bath air cleaner, and even stock exhaust manifolds make it look authentic. The transmission is a 2-speed PowerGlide automatic from that same donor car, and it, too, was completely rebuilt before going into the ragtop's powdercoated chassis. It does show a few signs of use underneath, but you can't blame a guy for driving his dream, and all of the mechanical work was done by an ASE certified mechanic, who also happened to be his son. Proper wheels and hubcaps are protected by a set of bright 205/75/15 whitewall radials, which ride great and look right.
This is a very high-quality 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible that's in exactly the right condition to drive and enjoy, and perhaps even relive your youth a little bit. Call today!

These days, truck-based, full-frame SUVs are somewhat of a rarity on the auto landscape due to the rapid rise in popularity of easier-driving, car-based crossovers. Although, without the gradually building popularity of these chunky, high-riding vehicles decades ago, it's unlikely that America's roads would be filled with so many CUVs today. In its latest dig into the archives, MotorWeek has found a 1984 comparison test of a trio of these early Sport Utility Wagons, as long-time host John Davis called them, that helped get acceptance of this segment going. This is a red, white and blue test of the SUVs from American automakers at the time and pits the Chevrolet Blazer, Ford Bronco and Jeep Cherokee (specifically in Wagoneer guise) against each other. Driving manners and interior usability are considered in the evaluation, but Motorweek actually takes these vehicles off road, too. Among the bigger revelations is the improvement in on-road ability in the past 30 years. While specific 0-60 times aren't given, all three models take around 10 seconds just to get to around 50 miles per hour in the 500-feet on-ramp acceleration test. Check out this clip to see just how far this segment has progressed in the past three decades or just get a blast of nostalgia from these now vintage models. The Performance Data Recorder with Valet Mode available on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray seems like a fantastic tool for many owners. Whether they are taking 720p video while lapping the track in their new 'Vette, or just want to protect their purchase from inconsiderate joyriders, the system offers a lot of functionality in one package. However, one of the PDR's features might get buyers in trouble with the law, and it has nothing to do with recording some illicit high-speed driving on a favorite back road. The problem hinges on the various state laws concerning a person's right to privacy.
According to a letter posted by Jalopnik, Chevy dealers are asking 2015 Corvette owners not to use the Valet Mode portion of the PDR because it records audio in the cabin, in addition to performance specs. That's a problem because privacy laws vary from state to state with some requiring just one side's consent to tape sound and others requiring all parties to agree. According Jalopnik, 15 states mandate everyone's permission beforehand, but it's not clear whether these numbers are up to date. (Actually, the report varies, saying 13 states in some places and 15 in a list.)
According to the letter, Chevy is already working on a software update for the near future to rectify the issue. It's possible that simply adding a warning to drivers and the ability to turn off the audio recording function in Valet Mode might solve the problem. Obviously, this doesn't preclude Corvette drivers from using the performance aspect of the PDR, and owners are free tape lap after lap at the track.

If you want a closer look at what went into designing and building the interior for the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, we've got just the thing. General Motors has released a new video detailing the cabin's evolution from conception to execution, complete with commentary from Ryan Vaughn, performance car interior design manager with Chevrolet. The quick clip details how manufacturing, engineering and design within General Motors worked together from the first sketches to ensure no compromises had to be made later down the line. How novel.
With plenty of hides traced with contrast stitching and available real carbon fiber trim, the cabin looks to be a few hundred miles ahead of the C6. Given how readily critics derided the previous generation for its cabin, the C7 should make writers work a little harder to find something to complain about. Check out the video below for yourself.
