1966 Belair Solid Original Oklahoma 2dr Post Small Block/manual Transmission on 2040-cars

Year:1966 Mileage:67500 Color: has had a repaint years ago and has some fading and flaking
Location:

Cincinnati, Ohio, United States

Cincinnati, Ohio, United States

I hate to let this car go but I'm chasing something even better, so its up for auction.

This is a great 66 Bel Air 2 dr post. Excellent frame, floors, trunk...It has some rust in the lower rear quarters but otherwise is a great project car.

I was assembling parts to make it a 396/4 speed car but plans changed.

It started life as a 6 cylinder car in Oklahoma, and at some point the motor was replaced with a 307? (DO suffix code) 2bbl engine years ago. Motor runs great - starts easy and is super smooth. Carb needs an accelerator pump - hesitates on take off.   New exhaust just installed.  Trans is a column shifted Saginaw HD 3 speed.  Color is the original teal metallic with teal interior.

Runs and drives ok but I haven't put many miles on it lately. Manual drum brakes feel good, manual steering is tight. Lights work. Needs heater core and fuel sender.

Not sure if its ready to be a daily driver but its close.

Interior is fair - previous owner removed carpet and applied rustoleum to the front floors. Seats and door panels have wear as shown. Odometer shows 67k miles. Windshield was replaced a couple years ago.

Exterior has had a repaint years ago and has some fading and flaking. There are several dings on the hood and trunk. Hood has a rust pinhole on the front edge but otherwise is solid, trunk lid has some bubbling in one corner.  Core support is excellent except for some minor rust around one mount. Needs a battery tray. Rockers and floors are excellent. Nice trim, grille and bumpers.  Everything under the car is covered in Oklahoma dust and flaky factory undercoating.

Please see all 50+ photos for details.

Clear Oklahoma title in hand.  I have a pair of full quarter skins available to the buyer for an extra $200, and if the car sells I'll be listing the 402 and rebuilt muncie I had saved for this car, as well as '66 specific parts like oil pan, big block manifolds, shifter, etc.

The car comes with a set of dog dish hubcaps as shown below, and also a new set of brake/clutch pedal pads.

Located in the eastern side of Cincinnati, Ohio, zip 45206.

The car is seriously for sale and I welcome appointments to view it. Price is somewhat flexible but I have over $4000 in the car and don't want to lose my shirt.

International bids welcome. Thanks for looking!

Stolen '57 Chevy Returned To Owner After 30 Years

Fri, Feb 21 2014

Three decades after it was stolen, a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air has been returned to a Northern California man - in better shape than when he originally owned it. The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports Ian "Skip" Wilson was shocked to get a call from the California Highway Patrol informing him that his long-lost Chevy was taken off an Australia-bound cargo ship. The 65-year-old says the car has had a lot of work done on it since it disappeared from his Lake County home in 1984. It was returned with a monogrammed interior, 17-inch racing wheels, rack-and-pinion steering and a 350-horsepower V-8 engine. The retired mechanic says the two-door was in sorry shape when he bought it for $375 in 1975 with plans for fixing it up. GM 6.2L V8 claims most powerful light-duty truck engine title

Thu, 12 Sep 2013

General Motors has officially captured the horsepower crown for mainstream pickup trucks with its 6.2-liter V8. The big mill, available in both the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, comes to market with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, handily outdoing its two cross-town competitors, Ram (5.7-liter V8, 395 ponies and 407 lb-ft) and Ford (6.2-liter V8, 411 hp and 434 lb-ft).
The new GM 6.2 will take a bit of an investment, though. Those that want the extra thrust will need to go with either the LTZ or High Country trims from the Chevy, or the SLT and Denali trims from GMC, which are the two highest trim levels for the respective vehicles. Trim levels aside, if you're in the business of towing, GM has you covered. Optioned with the 6.2-liter V8 and the Max Trailering Package, owners will be able to pull 12,000 pounds, a hugely impressive figure.
We still aren't certain as to what sort of economy the new engine will get, but it'll probably be a bad bet for the fuel conscious. As for availability, expect to see the 6.2-liter trucks in showrooms later in the fall.

'84 MotorWeek Cherokee, Bronco and Blazer comparison indulges your SUV nostalgia

Fri, Jan 16 2015

These days, truck-based, full-frame SUVs are somewhat of a rarity on the auto landscape due to the rapid rise in popularity of easier-driving, car-based crossovers. Although, without the gradually building popularity of these chunky, high-riding vehicles decades ago, it's unlikely that America's roads would be filled with so many CUVs today. In its latest dig into the archives, MotorWeek has found a 1984 comparison test of a trio of these early Sport Utility Wagons, as long-time host John Davis called them, that helped get acceptance of this segment going. This is a red, white and blue test of the SUVs from American automakers at the time and pits the Chevrolet Blazer, Ford Bronco and Jeep Cherokee (specifically in Wagoneer guise) against each other. Driving manners and interior usability are considered in the evaluation, but Motorweek actually takes these vehicles off road, too. Among the bigger revelations is the improvement in on-road ability in the past 30 years. While specific 0-60 times aren't given, all three models take around 10 seconds just to get to around 50 miles per hour in the 500-feet on-ramp acceleration test. Check out this clip to see just how far this segment has progressed in the past three decades or just get a blast of nostalgia from these now vintage models.
