I'm selling a very nice 1963 Chevy Bel Air 2-door sport coupe I received in trade for my 1972 Cutlass Supreme earlier this summer. It has been nothing but a pleasure to cruise in, but I'm selling it to put together a deal for a mint long wheelbase Mercedes-Benz 280SE 4.5 to go with the standard wheelbase one I have on the other side of the garage. The Bel Air starts, runs, shifts, stops and sounds great. It has a non-original 327 with 350 heads, a brand new interior and Foose Legend wheels. The previous owner rebuilt the transmission with a shift kit, replaced both rear quarter panels with rust-free sheet metal, replaced the Bel Air trunk with a genuine four-light Impala one, replaced the exhaust with a full steel dual system, added Impala trim to the interior and put in a new radio inside the glove compartment. He also repainted the car to what I would consider a driver-quality standard. All of the glass is in good condition, and the exterior chrome is presentable with some scratches and scuffs. The Foose wheels look and ride great, but they're pretty wide, and they rub on the inside of the wheel wells when you turn the steering to full lock. It doesn't hurt the way the car drives—it just makes you a little extra careful in parking lots.

Included with the sale is a brand new replacement chrome dash facing (surrounds the radio and knobs), and an original Bel Air trunk. It needs to be painted, but it's complete with trim and wiring.

As I said, the car runs very well. For work it needs, If I kept the car, I'd replace the carpet and shocks, bring back an original style steering wheel, repaint or replace the valve covers and drive it to my next cruise night a couple of days later with a smile on my face. It's a wonderful car to drive as is, or a great start toward a complete Bel Air restoration or lowered, big block Biscayne-style sleeper.

The price guides put this car at anywhere between $10,000 and $21,000 in average condition. This auction is no reserve and starts well below that. The first bidder will have a chance to buy the car. Connecticut doesn't issue titles for cars built before 1981, so this one will come with a full CT bill of sale. Standard deal terms apply—no keys until all funds have cleared, and while I'm happy to work with a shipper the buyer is responsible for shipping costs. I can store the car until mid-October if necessary.

I'm happy to send any additional pictures, or arrange for a test drive/mechanical inspection. The car is located in my garage in Bridgeport, CT, near I-95 and within an easy drive of New York, Philadelphia and Boston. Fly or train in and I'll be happy to pick you up. You could easily drive it home.

2015 Chevy Spark will have lighter, smaller battery

Thu, May 15 2014

As General Motors gets ready to release the 2015 Chevy Spark EV, it is retooling the Brownstown Battery Assembly to build a new battery system for the chirpy little electric car. The new Spark will lose a few pounds and kWh from its lithium-ion pack, but it will keep all of it's performance specs. The current Spark EV uses a 21-kWh lithium-ion battery pack with bits made by A123 Systems (known as B456 Systems during bankruptcy). For the 2015 model, GM is going to build a 19-kWh battery system in-house that will use 192 LG Chem cells. Losing a bit of energy capacity means that the battery system for the 2015 Spark EV will be 86 pounds lighter but it will keep the EPA-rated 82-mile range and 119 MPGe. The 2015 Spark EV also keeps its $26,685 (plus destination) starting price from the 2014 model. The car will once again qualify for a federal tax credit of up to $7,500. LG Chem also supplies the cells for GM's other plug-in vehicles from its facility in Western Michigan. The Brownstown production line currently builds the battery packs for the Chevy Volt, the Opel Ampera and the Cadillac ELR. You can read our first drive of the 2014 Chevy Spark here. Brownstown Battery Assembly Expands Capabilities Will build battery system for 2015 Chevrolet Spark EV 2014-05-14 DETROIT – General Motors will bring all its electric vehicle battery building capabilities in-house with production of battery systems for the 2015 Chevrolet Spark EV at its battery assembly plant in Brownstown, Mich. "Using our in-house engineering and manufacturing expertise enabled us to deliver a battery system that is more efficient and lighter than the 2014 Spark EV without sacrificing range," said Larry Nitz, executive director of GM global transmission and electrification engineering. "Our successful working relationship with LG Chem has allowed us to deliver a new battery system for the Spark EV that helps us to better leverage our economies of scale." A newly designed battery system features an overall storage capacity of 19 kWh and uses 192 lithium ion cells. The cells are produced at LG Chem's plant in Holland, Mich. The battery system weight of 474 lbs. is 86 pounds lighter than the system in the 2014 Spark EV. The Spark EV battery is built on a dedicated production line at Brownstown, which also manufactures complete battery packs for the Chevrolet Volt, Opel Ampera and Cadillac ELR.

Chevy Camaro is a good sport, wishes Ford Mustang Happy 50th

Tue, 15 Apr 2014

It was 1966 when Chevrolet launched its challenger to the wildly successful Ford Mustang, the Camaro. While the competition between the two brands was already healthy, the arrival of the Camaro set off one of the most intense, model-to-model rivalries in the industry.
That competitive spirit hasn't stopped Chevy and the Camaro from wishing Ford's iconic muscle car a Happy 50th Birthday as the Ford's April 17 anniversary rolls around. These two cars have been linked over the years, and while the rivalry took a break for a few years in the 2000s, today's competition between the Camaro and Mustang is as fierce as it's ever been.
You might recall that this friendliness when it comes to major milestones isn't too rare. Ford put on quite a display for General Motors' hundredth anniversary back in 2008. As the Camaro's fiftieth birthday approaches in 2016, we wouldn't be surprised to see the Mustang sending its best wishes to its Bowtie rival.

First privately owned Corvette Stingray blitzes 1/4 mile in 12.23 at 114.88 mph

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

Chevrolet's latest road rocket, the Corvette Stingray, is a very quick car. If one needs further proof of that, we recommend they take a look at this video from Hennessey of what is claimed to be the first privately owned C7 Corvette to make a pass down the quarter mile. Not just any quarter mile, mind, this black C7 blitzed its way down the tuner's primary testing dragstrip. The Chevrolet ran the quarter in just 12.23 seconds at 114.88 miles per hour. That is a very quick time for a stock car.
Equipped with the Z51 package and a six-speed automatic transmission, not only does the C7 run a solid time, but it does so with little to no drama. That won't last though, as Hennessey will likely return it to its owner with far more power - we just hope they show a drag run of the completed product. Take a look below to watch the C7's 12.23-second run on video.
