1959 Chevy Bel Air 4 door. 283 V-8 with a powerglide transmission. The car has under 40k original miles and was a 1 family owned car before I bought it. The Bel Air was purchased at a local Chevy Dealership and spent most of its life in a garage in Camano Island Wa. I found and rescued the car this past winter about 10 miles from my home where it sat untouched for 8 years. The story i was told by the owner and also the niece of the original owner was that the car was given to her son 14 years ago as her son worked at a body shop and repainted the car at that time. Once the car was repainted he drove the car very little and then parked it in moms driveway while in college, covering the car with a cover for many years. Although his intentions were good, covering the car was not good on the great paint work he had done, as it has blistered in many places on the car. The Bel Air is very straight and all the trim and body lines are nice and has never had any collision work done. It also has rare power steering which makes it very easy to drive! The engine runs great and purrs at an idle, the trans shifts great but does have a small leak from the front seal? The interior has had the seats recovered and the door panels done as well and look great even though not in the original upholstery. The headliner is original and discolored and could be replaced as well as the windlace around the doors. The trunk area has some surface rust but is pretty solid, as well as the spare tire area. I have not removed the carpet to see the floors but they feel solid and see no rust holes under the car. Only one small crack in small window on passenger side back door, even the windshield is good. Please keep in mind that this an old car and will need some tinkering but does drive great and looks awesome going down the road! There is a cd player mounted under the dash and sounds good. The heater and heat controls all function good as well as all the windows and vents. All the lights and wipers work but the fuel and temp gauges do not. This is an honest car and in my opinion can be driven and enjoyed the way it is! The only reason for selling this car is because i just purchased a 59 impala convertible that i have been trying to buy for many many years. I am sure i left some things out so please feel free to ask any and all questions or send your name and # and we can talk.

Personal testimonies show real-world effect of plugging in with Chevy Volt

Mon, Jan 13 2014

At this point, there are tens of thousands of individual stories about what it's like to live with a Chevrolet Volt. But it also remains informative to take a look at one of these in depth. For example, one Atlanta-area Volt owner says he's cut his cents-per-mile ownership costs by almost 40 percent compared to his previous car primarily because of his ability to drive almost all the time on electric power. Jeffrey Cohen told Clean Technica that he put about 14,000 miles on his Volt extended-range plug-in hybrid for the year that ended October 2013, and that more than 92 percent of those were on electrons. He estimates his "lifetime" miles per gallon rating at a whopping 384 mpg, a figure pushed upward by the fact that he installed a Level 2 charger at home while his employer added an external 110-volt charger at work. Cohen is spending 45 cents a mile for his car, compared to 73 cents in his Infiniti M35. As a result, he's spending 45 cents a mile for his car, compared to 73 cents a mile with his prior vehicle, an Infiniti M35. About two-thirds of those Volt costs are for the $349-a-month lease payments, while 15 percent is insurance, 11 percent is for the charger and seven percent for the gas and electricity that actually powers the car. Helping lower that last figure is an overnight electricity rate that's about 10 percent of Cohen's daytime rate. Chevy parent General Motors hopes such testimonies will re-trigger sales for the Volt in 2014. Last year, GM sold 23,094 Volts, down 1.6 percent from 2012. We expect our readers have similar stories they'd like to share in the Comments. Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]

Fri, 25 Jan 2013

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?
