1957 Chevy Nomad. I have owned this car for 10 yrs. Originally an Arizona car, brought to Michigan, owned by a previous owner for 30 years who semi restored it in 1974-76. 283 with a power glide. Supposed to be a powerpack 283. First year for the 283. This is a 57 dated motor. The 1957 283's were unique in that they had no side motor mount pad cast into the side of the block, thew mounted off of the front of the engine. This car was "restored" buy a fellow between 1974 and 1976. I have a series of 35 mm slides that came with the car showing it being painted and a fresh motor. The engine was rebiult at that time and he turned the odometer back to zero. To date there has been only 10,000 miles put on since 1976. I bought this car in Flint Michigan in 2003, and drove it home up the interstate 500 miles, 9 hrs ,65 mph, with no trouble. New dual exhaust put on in 2002 before I bought. Runs great and drives straight. The car was painted in 1976, as the slides show, and is starting to crack in places now. You can also see where a panel was painted at one time, top of L front fender and topof door, in the past do to a scratch repair, and was not a perfect match. When I bought the car it was stone stock. This is a near rust free car. Solid floors, solid rockers with one small area of rust as seen in pics, solid body mounts. The slides show there were a couple of places in the rear cargo area that were patched in 1976, the biggest being maybe 6" square. There is some body filler in the drivers door that can be seen. There are still traces of original red primer up under the drive shaft area. There is a spot of rust starting at the bottom of one of the fenders. I have $22,000 in reciepts that I spent starting in 2003. I had the car professionally lowered. Poisey drop rear springs, Hiedts 2" drop spindles with new coils, ball joints, tie rod ends, and power disc brakes. Polished American mags with BF Goodrich radials give it a nice look. I have added a complete new Painless modern wiring harness, Griffin cross flow radiator with fans, and air cond condenser, Rain Gear wiper system, power windows, Alternator, Edlebrock carb and manifold, front and rear bumpers completly rechromed along with the front hood and grill trim, complete new C.A.R.S. interior, I stripped the interior completely and replaced everything except the headliner which needed nothing, including all door and cargo panels and all garnish moldings repainted and new dash trim. Carpet in the cargo area is sun faded. This is a factory air condtioned car according to the firewall tag. So I re-plated the dash vents and heater control, which is special to a factory air car. I do not have any of the original air cond. parts for the engine compartment, there is also no heater parts in the engine compartment either. But air vents are working. New seat foam and covers. New tinted door window glass with completly rebuilt & rechromed window vent assemblys. The exterior stainless trim is as good as it gets for an original, with only a few dimples in a couple of pieces. New door gaskets and seals including the cargo doors. New Halogen headlights assemblies, new LED taillight assemblies including housings. New gas tank and sender. Pertronix ignition. 15" 1956 Bel air steering wheel. I have all reciepts, includes an assembly and service manual and a large book full of 57 Nomad magazine articles. Will ad more as I recall it.

I paid $22,000 for this Nomad in 2003, I have spent another $22,000 since purchase, total is $44,000. Have all reciepts. reserve is much lower.

On Sep-30-12 at 07:59:17 PDT, seller added the following information:

According to Hemmings or Old Cars grading scale, 1 to 6, 1 being perfect, 6 being a parts car, I would rate this a strong # 3, As I said, paint is 35 years old and has issues, underside is in original condtion not "restored" with the exception of the items I listed. Runs excellant and drives straight. Gets positive commets wherever I go, from little kids to little old ladies. There is no power steering. I see no reason you couldnt drive this anywhere. I am located near Iron Mountain Michigan, or 100 miles due north of Green Bay, Wisconsin

2016 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon recalled for opening console lids

Mon, Dec 28 2015

The Basics: General Motors is recalling 9,200 examples of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado with build dates between August 25, 2015 and September 24, 2015, and the 2016 GMC Canyon manufactured from August 28, 2015 to September 24, 2015. In total, 8,763 of these pickups are in the US, and the rest are in Canada or Mexico. The Problem: The console compartment lid could open in a crash, and the items inside the storage compartment might hit occupants during the accident. This fault puts the pickups out of compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The fix: Dealers will replace the console compartment door latch assembly with an improved part. If you own one: GM has not yet told NHTSA when the repairs for these pickups begin. Related Video: RECALL Subject : Console Door may not Fully Latch/FMVSS 201 Report Receipt Date: DEC 01, 2015 NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V807000 Component(s): LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES Potential Number of Units Affected: 8,763 All Products Associated with this Recall Vehicle MakeModelModel Year(s) CHEVROLET COLORADO 2016 GMC CANYON 2016 Details Manufacturer: General Motors LLC SUMMARY: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2016 Chevrolet Colorado trucks manufactured August 25, 2015 to September 24, 2015, and GMC Canyon trucks manufactured August 28, 2015 to September 24, 2015. The affected vehicles have a console compartment lid latch assembly that may fail to keep the compartment door closed in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 201, "Occupant Protection in Interior Impact." CONSEQUENCE: If the console compartment door does not remain closed in a crash, the contents stored in the console may strike the vehicle occupants, increasing their risk of injury. REMEDY: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the console compartment door latch assembly, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 16370. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Chevy confirms Corvette Stingray Convertible for Geneva

Thu, 07 Feb 2013

Want proof that General Motors has increased global ambitions for its 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray? It's staging the world premiere of the model's convertible variant at the Geneva Motor Show early next month.
As previously rumored, the droptop rendered above will debut at the Swiss show, making its first appearance anywhere on March 5. According to Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet, the location makes sense because Corvette "...is an icon that has long been recognized and admired even in countries where it's never officially been offered."
While neither Chevrolet nor the Corvette has a major sales presence in Switzerland, the Bowtie's European headquarters is located in Zurich (about three hours to the northeast of Geneva) and GM has made it clear that it wants to build the Chevrolet brand up across Europe.

The USPS needs 180,000 new delivery vehicles, automakers gearing up to bid

Wed, Feb 18 2015

Winning the New York City Taxi of Tomorrow tender was a huge prize for Nissan, even though the company is still working through the process of claiming its prize. The United States Postal Service has begun the process to take bids for a new delivery vehicle to replace the all-too-familiar Grumman Long Life Vehicle, and that will be a much larger plum for the automaker who wins it, perhaps worth more than six billion dollars. The Grumman LLV is an aluminum body covering a Chevrolet S-10 pickup chassis and General Motors' Iron Duke four-cylinder engine. The USPS bought them from 1987 to 1994, and the 163,000 of them still in service are a monumental drain on postal resources: they get roughly ten miles to the gallon instead of the quoted 16 mpg, drink up more than $530 million in fuel each year, and their constant repair needs like the balky sliding door and leaky windshields have led the service to increase the annual maintenance budget from $100 million to $500 million. A seat belt is about as modern as it gets for safety technology, and the USPS says that assuming things stay the same, it can't afford to run them beyond 2017. Last year it put out two triage requests for proposals seeking 10,000 new chassis and drivetrains for the Grumman and 10,000 new vehicles. The LLV is also too small for the modern mail system in which package delivery is growing and letter delivery is declining. The service says it doesn't have a fixed idea of the ideal "next-generation delivery vehicles," but it listed a number of requirements in its initial request and is open to any proposal. Carriers have some suggestions, though, saying they want better cupholders, sun visors that they can stuff letters behind, a driver's compartment free of slits that can swallow mail, and a backup camera. The request for information sent to automakers pegs the tender at 180,000 vehicles that would cost between $25,000 and $35,000 apiece, and it will hold a conference on February 18 to answer questions about the contract. GM is the only domestic maker to avow an interest, while Ford and Fiat-Chrysler have remained cagey. Yet with a possible $6.3 billion up for grabs and some new vans for sale that would be advertised on every block in the country, we have a feeling everyone will be listening closely come February 18. We also have a feeling the LeMons series is going to be flooded with Grummans come 2017. News Source: Wall Street Journal, Automotive News - sub.
