1957 Chevy Bel Air Convertible on 2040-cars
Sparta, Tennessee, United States
A true American Classic! For sale is a beautiful 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible. This car has had a complete frame off restoration. The restoration is about six years old. The car has new quarter and rocker panels, and the floor is solid. All of the upholstery is new as well. The power plant in this car is a completely rebuilt 283 V8, with a brand new CM600 4 barrel Edelbrock carb. The transmission in the car has been completely rebuilt as well. The color of the car is base coat clear coat GM Matador Red. The frame was bead blasted and professionally refinished in high gloss black. Everything on this car works great. This restoration was done very carefully and the car was gone through with a “fine tooth comb” so to speak. We have literally touched every piece on this car. The only problems with the car are on the convertible top there are two small tears were the top meets the body & the rear right bumper guard has a small amount of surface rust. We never re-chromed that piece. All in all this is a very solid, well done car, that with be sure to turn heads! The milage on the car is 68304, that is the original mileage, however there has been maybe 1000 miles put on the rebuilt motor. The reason for selling? The owner, my father, is getting older and does not have time for this hobby any more. Please email for additional pictures, and for any questions. Thank you. The fantastic thing about this car is that IT IS A NUMBERS MATCHING CAR! The motor, tranny, generator, radiator, distributor housing, exhaust manifold, manifold intake, power steering pump, starter & rear and front differential, match. The convertible top also has the factory electric motor. The convertible top frame is original, and has been refinished in high gloss black. We believe that even the glass is original. I do have the original radio but it is not working. We have replaced it with a reproduction Wonder Bar that is AM/FM with a digital tuner. I also have the original Rochester 4 barrel carb that has been re-built. The car does have the original padded dash as well. I also have the original jack. Now for a list of some of the new parts, New top Firestone Whitewall original style tires from Coker floor braces New rear wells on both sides Lots of great new sheet metal parts from Dan Chuck and Ecklers. Leaf springs Dual exhaust system Spare tire All weather stripping was replaced Body mounts Bushings and ball joints Brakes all the way around And much more |

Suzuki recalls 2 million cars globally
Wed, Apr 22 2015Suzuki is recalling two million vehicles across the globe, including a number of Chevrolet Cruze sedans that it builds for General Motors, because the ignition switches may begin to smoke. None of the Cruzes being recalled were sold in the US, though. This recall is limited to the Japanese, European and Australian markets. In Suzuki's home market, 1,873,000 vehicles are being recalled, including the Cruze and a number kei cars built for Mazda (the Carol and AZ-Wagon), as well as the automaker's own Alto, Wagon R and Swift. Affected vehicles were built between 1998 and 2009. The remaining 133,000 vehicles include Cruzes and other Suzuki products sold in Europe and Australia. There have been no reports of injuries or accidents due to the 67 reported incidents, all of which come from the Japanese market, a Suzuki spokesperson told Automotive News. Related Video:
Driving Granatelli's turbine-powered 1978 Chevy Corvette [w/video]
Thu, Jan 8 2015With its curvy snout and feminine haunches, the third-gen Chevrolet Corvette looks like a dreamy – if dated – exemplar of Sports Car Fantasy 101 when viewed through modern eyes. This particular specimen circa '78, clad in silver and black paint with red pinstripes, appears to be a well-preserved example from the era. Apart from its low-profile Pirellis, slightly raised and slotted hood, spacious stance and a certain hand-painted descriptor alongside its crossed flag logos, you'd never guess there's a Space-Age propulsion unit powering this Coke bottle-bodied ride. Climb inside, and you're presented with aircraft gauges and big, colorful square buttons in the center panel. It takes a push of the "Ignitor" button, a tap of the starter button, and a slide of a T-handle for this nearly 40-year-old sports car to start sounding like Gulfstream G650 ready for takeoff. Yep, you're sitting in an 880-horsepower, turbine-powered Corvette, the only one of its kind in the world. Welcome to the whoosh. What The...? Built by Vince Granatelli, son of Indy 500 guru Andy Granatelli, this curious Corvette came into being by cramming a Pratt & Whitney ST6N-74 gas turbine engine into the donor car's lengthy front end. The same type of Jet A-burning mill powered Granatelli Senior's STP-sponsored racecar at the 1967 Indianapolis 500, where it famously led most of the 198 of 200 laps until a $6 transmission bearing failed, knocking it out of the race. The idea of turbine power usurping internal combustion was so threatening that Indy's governing body restricted turbine performance into obsolescence thereafter. A turbine-powered Corvette sounds excessive because it is. But there are also things about this 880-horsepower, 1,161-pound-feet monster that might surprise you. While it smacks of futurist exoticism and cost a then-dizzying $37,000 in 1967, the Canadian-built powerplant uses 80 percent fewer parts than an internal combustion V8 and will run on virtually anything combustible – whiskey, diesel, even Chanel No. 5. Though it's triple the length of a V8, the Pratt & Whitney beast weighs only 285 pounds. It's also one hell of a robust workhorse, typically serving as an auxiliary power unit for commercial aircraft or a generator in oil fields, where it can run for tens of thousands of consecutive hours before needing an overhaul. To adapt the Chevrolet for jet duty, the nose section was gutted and a sub-frame was built to compensate for the loosey-goosey front end.
2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Convertible offers a few more views before reveal
Mon, 04 Mar 2013Over the weekend, Chevrolet released its first images of the new 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Now, ahead of the droptop's official introduction tomorrow at the Geneva Motor Show, the automaker has given us a few more shots of the softop C7 showing off the car's rump albeit from a high, strategically positioned angle.
From this angle, it's hard to get a sense for how long and flat the decklid really is, but we can easily see that, like the rest of the C7's design, the new convertible's decklid and tonneau cover are far more detailed than the current car. We also get a better look at the rear haunches sans brake vents, which have apparently been moved to underneath the car in order to accommodate the top's hard cover.
As for the overall styling of the C7 convertible, with the top erected, we get some idea of what a coupe design (as opposed to the Stingray's fastback shape) would look like on this car. The C5 Corvette most recently had a coupe model that did away with the large glass hatchback, and we recently reported on a low-cost "coupe" model potentially being added to the C7's repertoire.
