Barrett Jackson / Mecum quality restoration.  Runs and drives like a new one, engine and Powerglide transmission have a couple thousand miles on them.   It was built in Late May with the correct engine and transmission.  The engine has all upgraded hypereutectic pistons, hardened seats, stainless valves, etc. to run standard pump gas.  283 with 2 bbl, power steering, push button radio, electric wipers with washer.  Time for a new owner, I literally have too many trophies and too little time to enjoy this awesome car.  Very fair reserve, check out the 2014 Dallas Mecum auction, (two days ago), one without the original transmission sold for 60k on day one, anyone who knows these cars knows the value.

This is a nut and bolt, frame off restoration. This car was very solid to start with and disassembled, media blasted and epoxy primed.  It was then painted with Sikkens base and three coats of clear, with 45 hours of wet sanding and buffing, the car looks like a new lacquer job with the durability of base/clear.  The hood, doors and trunk open and close perfectly, with correct gaps. The undercarriage is correctly painted urethane based red oxide primer, with correct frame black.  Convertible top frame was disassembled, rebuilt, and painted the correct Highland Green. The car is correct down to the clutch head screws that hold the fuel sender in the tank.  It was restored to classic Chevy guidelines. Can send more detailed pictures if necessary.

I reserve the right to end this auction early as I have it listed locally.

Thanks for looking, please let me know if you have any question, thank you, Craig.

On Sep-11-14 at 06:04:04 PDT, seller added the following information:

To all who are watching/bidding on my vehicle.  It has come to my attention that some watchers, one in particular, believe that my description of 'Barrett Jackson/Mecum quality' tells of an average, at best restoration.  As I am not "a true insider, or a collector", as I was called by this E-bay member,  I was not aware that describing my car as Barrett Jackson/Mecum was an insult to my car!  I do know, however, that any auction has it's faults, and while I have never been to one of them, I have seen some very nice and high quality auction cars in person.   So, I am not evading, or coming to some odd conclusions about my car, so if you have any questions about my car, feel free to ask, and if you are the high bidder, fly here or have a private inspection done before completing the transaction.  As for all who have been stung by the actions of sellers in the past, remember that 'what comes around, goes around'.    Thanks, Craig.  E-mail me and I will give you my number, or I will call you..Thanks.

GM opens military discount to 21M veterans and their spouses

Thu, Apr 7 2016

May marks the start of National Military Appreciation Month, and General Motors is getting into the spirit by expanding its military discount program to, well, just about everyone. That includes a total of 21 million military veterans and their spouses, along with the current slate of active duty, reserve, and National Guard members. The discount can slash thousands of dollars off the price of a new Buick, Chevrolet, or GMC vehicles, with Automotive News listing an $1,100 discount on the top gas-powered version of the Malibu, the Premiere. Those that want a bit more spice can get $1,700 off the price of a last-generation 2015 Camaro SS, while truck buyers will enjoy $3,000 off the Chevy Silverado All Star. That's just a start, though, since the military discount can be paired with other GM incentives. The discount doesn't apply to everything, though. Some are understandable – none of Cadillac's vehicles are included in the deal, nor is the Corvette Z06. You'll also be unable to apply the discount to a range of base-level trims, like the Chevy Cruze or Equinox L, the base Colorado, or the entry level GMC Acadia, Canyon, and Terrain. A full list is available at GM's dedicated military discount website. GM's expanded discount plan runs from today through May 31. New Chevrolet Silverado to be revealed on Facebook on Thursday

Tue, 11 Dec 2012

There's not much to see here, but if you're one of those waiting for the reveal of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, above is the teaser image that Chevrolet posted on its Facebook page. We've seen the truck in form-fitting camo before, and even less can be made out here beyond those seriously punchy Silverado-esque fenders and the knowledge that the projector-beam headlamps teased previously do indeed work. We'll have to wait until Thursday for a full perusal of the "bold exterior design" and "careful attention given to every detail" we've been promised.
Gathering intel and rumors, magnesium and aluminum contribute to the Silverado's weight loss plan, the purported "High Country" top-tier trim will contribute to luxury pickup truck competition and profit margins and the next-generation small-block V8 will contribute to improved fuel economy. On the engine note, there have been rumors of available V6 engines, and when Facebook user John Jones asked "Where's your answer to that EcoBoost Chevy?", the Bowtie replied "stay tuned on the 13th. We think you'll be pleased...".
Along with the "Raise the Bar" tag, Chevrolet says of the Silverado, "You asked, we delivered." You can watch the reveal live on Chevrolet's Facebook page at 9:30 am EST, this Thursday, December 13. The GMC Sierra 1500 will also be there, and we'll see both in person at the Detroit Auto Show in January.

Junkyard Gem: 1986 Chevrolet Sprint Plus

Fri, Jun 16 2023

General Motors sold second- and third-generation Suzuki Cultuses with Geo or Chevrolet Metro badging in the United States from 1989 through 2001 model years, and we've all seen plenty of those cars on the street over the years. The first-generation Cultus was sold here as well, with Chevrolet Sprint badges, and I've found a rare example of the Sprint five-door hatchback in a Northern California car graveyard. The Chevy Sprint first appeared on the West Coast as a 1985 model, then became available everywhere in the United States for the 1986 through 1988 model years (in Canada, it was sold as the Pontiac Firefly). It was available here as a hatchback with three or five doors; for 1986 only, the five-door was badged as the Sprint Plus. Soon enough, The General would be selling many more Asian-built cars with Detroit badges here. Isuzu I-Marks were sold as Chevrolet/Geo Spectrums starting in the 1986 model year, while Daewoo provided the Pontiac LeMans two years later. Under the hood, a 1.0-liter three-cylinder rated at 48 horsepower. The five-door Sprint cost $5,580 in 1986, which was $200 more than the three-door (those prices would be $15,445 and $14,891 in 2023 dollars). I've documented seven discarded Sprints prior to this one (including an extremely rare Turbo Sprint), and all of them were three-doors; we can assume that price was the most important factor for Sprint buyers. Gasoline prices were crashing hard during the middle 1980s, but memories of gas lines and odd-even-day fuel rationing from 1979 remained strong. What cars competed with the '86 Sprint on sticker price? Well, there was no way to undercut the hilariously affordable (and terrible) Yugo GV, which cost $3,990. The much bigger (but still pretty bad) Hyundai Excel listed at $4,995, while Toyota would sell you a sturdy (but zero-fun) Tercel starting at $5,448. Even the wretched Chevy Chevette — yes, it was still available in 1986 — cost $5,645. The original buyer of this car was willing to shell out an extra $395 to get an automatic instead of the base five-speed manual. That's about $1,093 in today's money. This car must have been slow. By the end, the doors were held shut with duct tape, but it still stayed alive until age 37. 53 miles per gallon on the highway! It does everything. The camels of the highway.
