OK folks, here ya go.......this is the story:  I purchased this car back in 1989 from a guy who wanted to restore it, but lost interest and sold to me.  I spent the next several years restoring it to its current condition.  This was a frame-off resto.....the frame was media-blasted & painted, the chassis was rebuilt, the springs, shocks, mounts, bushings, bolts, brake lines, etc. were all replaced (FYI, the floor pans were all solid).  The gas tank was drained, boiled & new support straps & rubber were installed.  The exterior was media-blasted, and some minor metal work was done.....all panels are original to the vehicle.  The car was professionally prepped and painted......today it has a few very minor flaws, but are easily touched-up......its a gorgeous exterior!  Now when it came to the chrome, I went all out......all original pieces were re-chromed old school: heavy 3-stage.....nickel, copper, chromium. The stainless was all hand-polished, and new clips were used throughout.  I installed all new window channel, and the only piece of glass thats not original is the drivers window, and it has a crack.  The drivetrain:  the engine is a small block chevy 350.....bored to 355 & professionally built buy a local engine shop....I don't have all the specifics anymore, but it was done right, and when it runs, this baby screams!  The rear-end was rebuilt, & a 4-speed Muncie was installed (it was originally 3-on-the-tree).  So, after four years of resto work, this is where I stopped......the drivetrain & exterior were complete, it was street legal, and I just wanted to enjoy driving it.  So the unfinished items are as follows:  I never completed the interior....I painted the dash, and installed the components, I had the original rear seat professionally reupholstered, and installed bucket seats in the front.  The door panels were recovered, but never completely trimmed.....the headliner was purchased, but never installed.....and a basic new carpet was installed.
The engine compartment was never beautified either.....just basic black, and nothing else.  The car has been in storage in my garage for the last 10 yrs, and has only been driven a few times since then (never seen snow or salt).  I haven't run it in approx 5 yrs, so it will need some new fuel, battery and a tune-up.  I don't know the exact mileage since restoration, but I'd estimate it at approx 5k.

If you have always wanted a 1957 Chevy, but couldn't find one in this condition for the right price, this is your opportunity!  I can't begin to tell you how much blood, sweat & tears (and money) went into this car over the years.....it was truly a labor of love.  But its time for me to move on to other projects. This car is ready for your finishing touches, and will turn heads anywhere you go.  Its a beautiful car, and its an amazing feeling to drive it down the street!
The winning bidder of this vehicle will also get all my spare parts.....several original radios, stainless trim, and many misc. parts & pieces.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at (630)417-3044. Thank you, and happy bidding!

Please be prepared to remit payment in full within 3 days of auction end by PayPal, bank wire transfer, cash, or major bank cashier's check (must wait for verification/clearance with ANY check).  Transport is the full responsibility of the buyer.  This is for local pick-up only, but I will make myself available for loading.  While every effort is being made to describe the vehicle accurately, it is a 56-year-old classic and therefore being sold as-is, without warranty written, expressed, or implied.

GM, UAW poaching Nissan workers in Tennessee

Tue, Sep 8 2015

General Motors and the United Auto Workers are going on a recruitment drive at the Spring Hill factory in Tennessee, and they're hoping to poach some skilled workers from Nissan's nearby plant in Smyrna, TN. The General and the union even bought a billboard advertising for industrial electricians near the Japanese automaker's facility, according to the Daily News Journal. The reason for the billboard was simple. "GM was short of electricians," said Tim Stannard, the president of the UAW local at Spring Hill, to the Daily News Journal. The factory currently builds the Chevrolet Equinox but has a contract to assemble the next generation of Ecotec engines and the Cadillac XT5, which replaces the SRX. Thanks to the $185-million deal, employment there is expected to double by May 2016, according to Stannard, with roughly 1,800 additional union jobs. Beyond just several billboards, GM has job postings online for the Spring Hill plant looking for workers with specific skills. There has already been some interest in the positions among Nissan employees, Stannard indicated. According to a recent study by the Center for Automotive Research, the average GM worker currently makes $58 an hour, including benefits. Comparatively, Nissan pays an average of $42 an hour with benefits. The General's number could change in the coming weeks because its contract with the UAW is about to expire, and higher wages are among the major negotiating points.

General Motors CEO Provides Few Details In Appearance Before Congress

Wed, Apr 2 2014

It was only two months ago that Mary Barra, freshly crowned as the new General Motors chief executive officer, visited Washington DC as an esteemed guest of First Lady Michelle Obama for the State of the Union address. On Tuesday, Barra returned to the Capitol under more strained circumstances. For more than two contentious hours, she took questions from members of a House of Representatives subcommittee investigating General Motors years-long delay in initiating a recall of millions of vehicles that contained a defect that has killed at least 13 people. Why did GM accept faulty ignition switches that were below the company's set specfications? Why did GM learn about the problem in 2001 yet take no action until 2014? Will GM compensate victims' families even though the company's bankruptcy may limit its liability? Those were a few of the questions members of the House Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee asked. Few concrete answers were forthcoming. For her part, Barra sidestepped most of the questions, saying she wouldn't have information needed to answer them until an internal review is completed. David Friedman, the administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, testified after Barra. The biggest news that emerged from the hearing was that General Motors has retained attorney Kenneth Feinberg to advise the company on its civil and legal responsibilities. He has made a career of resolving disputes and serving in a 'fixer' role, serving as the chief of the federal government's September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, as an administrator of compensation fund for victims of the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster and a similar fund for victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. Barra, who has been GM's CEO since January but been with the company since 1980, expects to meet with Feinberg on Friday, and have a concrete plan within the next 30-60 days. Yet Barra would not say for certain Tuesday that GM would compensate the victims at all. Despite repeated questions from Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), Barra did not outline the company's intentions. "I assume GM is hiring (Feinberg) to help identify the size of claims and then compensate the victims? Is that right," DeGette asked. "Is GM willing to put together some kind of a compensation fund for these victims that Mr. Feinberg will then administer?" "We've hired him to help assess the situation," Barra replied. "So really, there's no money involved at this point," DeGette asked.

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.
