1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible VIN No. VC560079714
The best-equipped of the Chevrolet line, the Bel Air featured improved trim and greater amenities. To many enthusiasts, the 1956 model embodies the perfect balance between the two distinctive styles of the 1955 and 1957. The subtle changes to the Chevy's body design in 1956 gave it a fresh, new, lighter appearance. Inside, the dash retained the dual cowl look, but now the mesh matched that of the front grille with plenty of chrome around. By setting new speed records and winning races, Chevy also proved to the world that their full-size cars were not just rolling sculptures but also great performing machines! A prized California "Black Plate" car, this desirable Bel Air Convertible comes nicely equipped with Powerglide automatic transmission, white power top, power brakes, heater, electric windshield wipers, Retorsound radio, bumper guards, continental kit, electric seats and automatic headlight dimmer. The convertible was restored to period finish in two-tone Onyx Black and White paint with correct Charcoal Black and White vinyl. Beautifully prepared, the chrome and bright work compliment the appearance. The engine compartment is similarly detailed, housing a 265 cubic inch, 2 barrel V8, new wiring and restored auxiliaries - all of which appear as new. The current motor fitted is a 1956 truck block, and it should be noted that the original 265 block accompanies the car (mounted in crate). Mechanically the car is overall in very good condition; all of the lights, switches, gauges, and horn are in good working order. We do want to note a small leak which looks like it’s coming from the transmission drain plug, other than this flaw the undercarriage presents nicely, dry and very original. *BUY ME!!! A beautiful example, well-optioned and ready for cruising, this 1956 Bel Air makes an easy driver for any enthusiast to enjoy, while capable of delighting the most discerning collector. *MAKE AN OFFER!!! *I come from a good California home, I have a black CA plate, my top goes down, my paint is a beautiful black and on the inside I am nicely detailed and equipped. GM cutting production at two plants
Thu, Feb 26 2015General Motors is continuing to adjust to excess supply of some of its brands' models. To get production more in line with the vehicles' actual demand, the automotive giant is idling two of its factories in North America in the coming months. The Orion Assembly plant is going to be down from March 9-13, according to an anonymous plant worker and another insider speaking to Automotive News. The factory builds the Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Verano, but there are plenty of both models sitting on dealer lots, including 216 days worth of Sonics, according to AN. The factory already had two idle periods announced to reduce the excess. In addition, downtime is scheduled at GM's "Flex" line at the Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, plant from April 13-17. This affects supply of the Chevrolet Camaro, Impala, Buick Regal and Cadillac XTS. Among them, the automotive giant has the largest supply of Regals ready for dealers with 213 days worth of them, according to AN. The future for the whole Oshawa factory is cloudy in general, though. There are rumors that it could close entirely in the future because the Camaro is leaving and the Regal and XTS might not last much longer than 2017. The Canadian government and the labor union there intend to put up a fight, though. Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
MotorWeek looks back at 1995 Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon
Sat, Jun 20 2015MotorWeek's Retro Review series gives us a nostalgic look back at some of the best sports cars and luxury sedans available in the 1980s and '90s. For its latest clip, the show shifts gears to remember the 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon. Similar to the success of crossovers today, SUVs were tallying big sales and making big money for automakers in the mid-'90s. The Tahoe and Yukon filled slots in the market as steps down from the larger Suburban. These twins weren't wanting for space, though, with plenty of room to haul around a family. MotorWeek came away generally impressed too, and called the models some "of the better riding sport utilities we've ever experienced." This review comes with some jazzy, electric guitar licks to enjoy in the background.
