What we have here is a 1955 Chevy Gasser.  This car was chased down as it pulled into Good Guys Columbus car show around 2002ish by my father.  After what seemed like forever he finally caught up to the owner just as he was parked and getting out. My father offered to buy the car which wasn't for sale.  The man who's car it was had it since he was a kid, around 14 if I remember right.  He said it had been a gasser since he had it back in the day.  My dad fell in love with the beater old trifive right then and there and would not take no for an answer.  He continued jacking up the price until the eyes of the owner lit up and he finally said yes.  Upon bringing the car home Pops had a picture in his head of what he remembered as a young man and wanted to turn the car into the picture in his mind.

That winter it was sent to my uncles shop where he did a frame off period Gasser build to my fathers idea and specs.  This car started as a 1955 Chevy with an econoline front axle, big block under the hood and a TH350.  The big block was built by a local shop (Dave Middleton at Performance Clinic in Beavercreek Ohio) and there is a build sheet showing the work including the solid cam and specs.  We were told it was a 396 block out of a 1969 Chevelle as was the 12 bolt rear end and probably the trans as well.  The trans that's in it now is a built TH350 with a correct stall, guessing 2500.  The old trans was pulled because it leaked and the stall was all wrong for the car.  An old race car guy friend of the family put in the current trans and stall from one of his many race cars.  Works much better than the old trans (which I then took and built to the hilt and is sitting in a corner in the shop not included with the sale)  My uncle did everything right on this car.  There is no bondo and all rust was repaired with correct metal panels and expert professional welding.  He radiused the rear wheel wells and they are probably the best I've seen on any tri five.  The original front drum brakes where replaced with disc on and a booster for safer stopping soon after the build was finished.  The car was painted with PPG DP90 flat black primer and has since been lettered, as you see, by famous local artist Shane Syx.  Shane is one of the best Ed Roth guys in the country as you can see by the rat fink on the trunk lid.  The front is a glass tilt.  The trunk is glass "Two Lane Blacktop" style with hood pins.  The Faux Hilborn injection was made in New Zealand under the Don Garlits name and was very expensive and took a long time to get.  Under that lives a Holley double pumper.  Gas is fired by a GM HEI and fumes exit through fender well headers dumping into a giant pair of super loud side pipes.  This engine is kept cool with a Be Cool Radiator and dual electric fans.  A genuine Moon tank lives up front and is plumed as a vac tank for the brakes.  Car rolls on vintage slots with Mickey Thompson Rubber.  Pretty sure I have the rear bumper in the shed but don't quote me and I also have the original grille hanging in the shop.  Here is a video I made talking about the car..

Here is video of my uncle or my dad grandpa-ing it down the track during Geezer Days car show at Kil Kare Raceway in Xenia Ohio.  Keep in mind this was just a run it down the track, old school flag man, exibition race.  We were not really racing here.

Looking into the blue tinted windows you will see a nice interior with original dash featuring a rare radio delete plate.  Original intention was to use a metal flake wheel but a super cool original wheel was found and used.  Factory gauges aren't hooked up but vitals are monitored by a few Auto Meter's where needed.  Seats are "race" buckets covered in the same silver metal flake as the tuck and roll door and side panels made by my uncle (
2talltr3 is his ebay user name, he makes tri five, hot rod and Triumph seats and interiors, it's very good stuff for a great price, check him out).  Front has black carpet and rear is done in aluminum.  This car is a massive hit at all the local car shows.  It will bring attention by those who know whats cool.  It will also scare women and children and send normal people running for their lives.  As far as the cops go, here in Ohio they don't bother my old retired dad but I'm sure if I was in it doing burn outs all the time they would bust me.

Disclaimer: This is a gasser not a new Volkswagen.  It is dangerous and could get an average dumb ass hurt or in trouble with the law.  It's not made for taking the family to wally world.  Don't let your kid drive it ever.  It stops well but doesn't steer the best as anyone who has driven a lifted truck knows.  The flaming river box could probably us an adjustment.  If you want to piss of your neighbors and have peoples jaw drop as you pull into the gas station this car is for you.  We resisted putting a shop logo on the door and the car's name on the quarter.  I was thinking silver leaf would look great on the door and my father calls the car "Highly Suspect"  It's a blank canvas for you to do what you want.  Ideally you would come hand us the money and load the car on your trailer but we can discuss a legitimate payment upon winning auction if you are far away.  We are located in Dayton Ohio.  If you would like to see the car in person you can call me at 937 six zero three 87 one three.

Car is "as is where is" with no warranty or returns.  Buyer accepts all responsibility for shipping.  A 500 dollar non refundable deposit is required with in 48 hours of auction ending from winning bidder.  Only non refundable deposit can be payed via paypal.  Will not take full payment through paypal.  We will talk legit payment method.  Do not bid if you don't have the money.  No scammers.

New Bright creating exclusive 1:8 scale radio-controlled C7 Corvette

Mon, 04 Feb 2013

If you want a new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette but can't quite save up enough pennies for the monthly payment, we have good news for you. Toymaker New Bright has pulled the covers off of its 1:8 scale remote-controlled version of the American sports car. Complete with a very detailed interior and LED headlights, this large-scale R/C is as close as most of us will ever come to having one of the menacing Chevrolet models to call our very own. New Bright still hasn't released pricing or availability, but word has it the coupe should hit the market soon.
Right now, it appears as if the C7 will hit shelves in Torch Red, though we don't know if other colors are planned as well. The good news is that New Bright isn't exactly turning its back on the old C6 - representatives say the company will continue to make its popular C6R racecar for those who prefer round taillights.

Here are all the EVs with 800V charging available in 2024

Fri, May 31 2024

As technology advances, electric cars are improving their fast-charging times. That means less time spent waiting at a DC public charger when you’re out on the road. While Level 3 chargers used to provide a maximum of 150 kilowatts of power, 350-kW chargers are become more common, making for super-fast charging Â… if your car is capable of taking advantage of it. So how do automakers improve the charging speed of their EV batteries? Some are turning to higher voltage, specifically 800V charging. What's the difference between 800-volt charging and 400-volt charging? So how does 800V charging improve upon the more common 400V EVs? Put simply, the higher the voltage, the less amperage (current) it requires to charge. In other words, with more voltage, you get more wattage (power, aka charge rate) from the same amperage (current). 800V architecture is also more efficient, with less electrical resistance, so it can use thinner cables and smaller, lighter components while needing less cooling. The tradeoff is that it is more costly, and guess who that cost gets passed on to. While automakers don't break down their pricing to show how much more you're paying for that 800V system, you'll just have to evaluate any potential purchases as a whole, and make your decision based on overall pricing of the vehicle. Thankfully, the 800V EVs on sale now are generally ones we like. Now, 800V charging capability doesn't necessarily mean an EV has 800V vehicle architecture. For instance, the GMC Hummer EV and Chevy Silverado EV operate at 400V, but with their dual battery packs, can switch to 800V when charging by temporarily connecting those packs in series. Currently, there are only a handful of EVs available with 800V charging. But if you are going to find yourself taking longer trips in your EV and using DC fast chargers more often, you might want to consider choosing one with this faster charging capability. With that in mind, these are the EVs available with 800V charging, either on sale now or coming in 2024. 800-volt EVs available in 2024 Audi E-Tron GT Chevrolet Silverado EV Genesis GV60 Genesis Electrified G80 Genesis Electrified GV70 GMC Hummer EV Pickup GMC Hummer EV SUV GMC Sierra EV* Hyundai Ioniq 5 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Kia EV6 Kia EV9 Lotus Eletre* Lotus Emeya* Lucid Air Lucid Gravity* Porsche Macan Electric* Porsche Taycan Ram 1500 REV* Tesla Cybertruck *Coming later in 2024 Green Audi Chevrolet Genesis GMC Hyundai Kia Lotus Porsche Tesla Electric Lucid EV charging

Junkyard Gem: 2005 Chevrolet Aveo LS Sedan

Sun, Jun 14 2020

The story of Daewoo in North America took some interesting plot turns over the decades. First we had the 1988-1993 Pontiac LeMans, a rebadged Daewoo LeMans. A bit later, Daewoo began selling cars under its own nameplate here, with the Lanos, Nubira, and Leganza available for the 1999-2002 model years. Then Daewoo fled the continent and left warranty service of those cars in the hands of Manny, Moe, and Jack. With GM taking over Daewoo Motors after Daewoo's bankruptcy, we got some Daewoos with Suzuki badges here— the Verona and the Reno— while Chevrolet began selling the South Korean-built Daewoo Kalos as the Aveo for the 2004 model year. This car may not be a gem in the sense that you would want to own one, but it's a gem of automotive history and thus deserves its place in this series (especially because it's one of the rare 5-speed cars sold here). Many (maybe even most) of these cars ended up in the hands of rental-car companies and other fleet users, but we can tell from the three-pedal setup that this car went to a non-fleet buyer. We've had a couple of these cars compete in the 24 Hours of Lemons, where I work as a dignified and respected race official, and they've been amazingly quick on a road course in the hands of good drivers. Power came from this 103-horsepower Opel-designed four displacing 1.6 liters. The Nubira and Lanos got versions of this engine on these shores, too. The LS was the top trim level for the Aveo in 2004, so this car got air conditioning and a halfway decent audio system (by 2004 standards). The seat fabric is industrial-grade stuff, which would have held up well under the steady drip and/or torrents of bodily fluids coating the interiors of rental cars. The 2004 Aveo LS started at $12,045, which comes to about $16,675 in 2020 dollars, so it was a lot of commuter-appliance for the price. The following generation of this car became the Chevrolet Sonic, beginning with the 2012 model year. You can still buy a new Sonic, and the inflation-adjusted price is nearly identical to that of the original AveoÂ… though you might want to move fast if you really want one, because Daewoo stopped selling the Kalos in South Korea not long ago. If you want the rarest member of the Aveo family available in North America, find yourself a hen's-teeth Pontiac G3, the short-lived Pontiac-badged version. Speaking of the G3, here's the way it broke the hearts of gas pumps around the world.
