I am listing this car for a friend.

1955 Chevy Bel-Air 2 door, no post, frame off restoration with a high attention to detail.
Where to start?  About 5 years ago, the body was taken off the frame, sand blasted to metal.   All body work and paint was done off the frame and it is very nice.  Base coat clear.

Motor & Trans:
2004 GTO LS1 with only 48,000 miles on it.  4L60E automatic transmission out of the same car.  It has the factory belt set up with a Vintage A/C bracket & compressor.
4" polished cold air intake set up with a nice filter.
Sanderson coated headers out to true dual flow-masters 40 series out the back.  Sounds awesome.
Custom made stand alone wire harness and re-flashed ECM.  Everything works and has a functioning check engine light.  Any shop can scan the car, watch data & codes.
2013 Custom camaro engine cover.  Trimmed and fits very nice.

Cooling system:
Custom made aluminum radiator with dual electric fans controlled by the computer. You can drive this car with the a/c in 100 deg. all day long and she runs cool.
It is mounted to a custom Billet radiator support and a/c condenser.  Very expensive and polished for show.

Rear End:
Custom ford 9" with 4 link, coil over set up.  It is connected to the transmission with a custom made drive shaft that was also chromed.
It has 3:89 Posi set up.

Suspension:
Besides the motor & trans and maybe the paint & body, this is the best part of the car.  It handles like or better then a new Corvette.
Front :
Heidts upper & lower tubular control arms.  Chromed and polished for show.  Heidts 1 1/8 sway bar.  QA1 coil over with chromed springs.  Close ratio power steering box with all new steering components.
Rear:
Heidts rear 4 link set up.  All powder coated black.  Coil overs as well, polished for show.

Brakes:
4-wheel, power disc brakes.   Stops on a dime.
Front:
CPP 13" drilled and slotted rotor with Zinc plated hardware.  Chromed 2 piston calipers with braided lines.
Rear:
CPP 12.5" drilled and slotted rotors with a built in e-brake set up.

Frame:
Frame was removed from body, welds cleaned up and sand blasted and powder coated gloss black and look amazing.  All new polyurethane body bushing and hardware were installed.

Fuel system:
Custom made stainless gas tank with a baffle system, installed in the factory spot.  Has a in line electric fuel pump controlled by the computer.  Nice stainless steel lines & fittings.

Interior:
All new interior.  Factory front bench seat with new custom made covers and foam.
Factory rear seat done to match.  Very nice door panels covered to match.  New headliner and polished bows.

Wheels & tires:
Boyd Coddington 18" wheels.
Tires: BFG G-force
Front: 18x8 with 245-45-18
Rear 18x9 with 275-40-18

Extras:
Flaming river tilt steering column.
Billet and leather wrapped steering wheel.
Custom White faced gauges and working clock.  All in the factory spot.
USA made stereo in the factory spot.  Has I-pod hook up.
American Auto wire updated wiring harness from bumper to bumper.
Vintage heat & A/C.
Optima Red top battery re-located in the trunk with a master shut off.
Every nut & bolt is new.  Either painted or stainless.

There is way to much detail to see in pictures.   This is one car that looks better in person then in pictures.  If you can beleave that.

The only thing not working as of right now is the E-brake.   I will try to have it done before auction ends.
This car has been in a couple car shows and has won builders choice.
This car was built to show and drive.  Fly in and drive it home.    It has about 850 trouble free miles on her since completion.

Any question please contact Joe @ 925-786-1139

I have over 200 pictures I can email you if needed.

Consumer Reports criticizes small turbo engines for misleading performance, fuel economy claims [w/video]

Tue, 05 Feb 2013

Consumer Reports has taken aim at at small-displacement, forced-induction engines, saying the powerplants don't manage to deliver on automaker fuel economy claims. Manufacturers have long held that smaller, turbocharged engines pack all power of their larger displacement cousins with significantly better fuel economy, but the research organization says that despite scoring high EPA economy numbers, the engines are no better than conventional drivetrains in both categories. Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, says the forced induction options "are often slower and less fuel efficient than larger four and six-cylinder engines."
Specifically, CR calls out the new Ford Fusion equipped with the automaker's Ecoboost 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The institute's researchers found the engine, which is a $795 option over the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, fails to match competitors in acceleration and served up 25 miles per gallon in testing, putting the sedan dead last among other midsize options.
The Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Sonata Turbo and Ford Escape 2.0T all got dinged for the same troubles, though Consumer Reports has found the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the BMW 328i does deliver on its promises. You can check out the full press release below. You can also read the full study on the Consumer Reports site, or scroll down for a short video recap.

Watch NASCAR racer Jeff Gordon put one over on a used car dealer... sorta

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Full Disclosure: in my younger days, I loved nothing more than tormenting passengers with my behind-the-wheel hijinks. Once, after a particularly artful handbrake turn on a two-lane at around 50 miles per hour, I left one backseat occupant crying in their own lap. This isn't necessarily something to be proud of, but it gives you a glimpse into why it is that I find this ad from Pepsi so damn disappointing. The premise is beautiful. Take NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon, give him a disguise and set him loose upon some unsuspecting used car dealer. Hilarity ensues.
Except that this Pepsi Max commercial is so obviously staged, it can't help but feel like some ham-fisted marketing fail. From the strategically placed aftermarket cupholder mounted mid-dash for the hidden camera to the fact that the supposed dealer Camaro is displayed as a 2009 model (Hint: Chevrolet didn't make any), this clip is about as organic as a Twinkie. Still, we would never turn down a chance to watch Gordon thrash on a rental-spec coupe - only problem is, he probably didn't even do the driving himself. Check it out below.

Question of the Day: What's the most irritating car name?

Wed, Mar 9 2016

You hear a lot about how the Chevrolet Nova was a sales flop in Mexico because "No va" means "it doesn't go" in Spanish; in fact, the Nova sold pretty well south of the border, and in any case most Spanish-speakers know that "Nova" means "new" in Latin and Portuguese. However, General Motors doesn't deserve to be let off the hook for bad car names, because the Oldsmobile Achieva— no doubt inspired by the excruciating "coffee achievers" ads of the 1980s— scrapes the biggest fingernails down the screechiest chalkboard in the US-market car-name world. That is, unless you think Daihatsu's incomprehensible choice of Charade was worse. Meanwhile, Japanese car buyers could get machines with cool names like Mazda Bongo Friendee or Honda Life Dunk. It's just not fair! So, what car name drives you the craziest? Related Video: Auto News Design/Style Chevrolet Honda Mazda Daihatsu Automotive History questions car names
