1954 Chevy 150 Sedan
Driveline: 70's 2 bolt 350, bored 0.040, flat top pistons, World cast iron S/R heads, Moroso performance distributor, QuickFuel HR 680 CFM carb, Summit dual plane intake, Howards hydraulic roller cam (225/231, 278/284, .500"/.510", 110+4 L/C), Holley 80gph fuel pump, TH350 trans rebuilt January 2010, steep rear end so it doesn't turn too high of RPMS going down the highway. Engine was rebuilt July of 2012. Very good oil pressure.
Chassis: TCI Mustang II IFS, powder coated A-arms and springs, non-power rack and pinion steering, 2" drop spindles up front, drop leafs in the rear, disc/drum power brakes, front sway bar, 15x7 wheels all around with American Classics wide whites (205/75/R15 radials), aluminum radiator keeps it running cool.
Interior: Custom black/grey, bucket seats from a 2006 Hyundai Tiburon, Custom Auto Sound AM/FM radio w/ 4 Kenwood 300w speakers and USB connection, VDO electronic gauge set (speedo, oil, temp, volt, fuel), IDIDIT stainless column, Lokar shifter, EZ wiring kit, Gemini remote door poppers, new window felts/gaskets and glass that is smoked (except for windshield), electric wipers, heat/defrost works. Interior was completed winter of 2012.
Body: shaved trim and door handles, one piece hood, blue pinstripe is hand painted, 4 extra grill teeth, power frenched antenna, smoothed firewall. The car was repainted Fall/Winter of 2010. Chrome is presentable but not perfect.
It's loud, it rides a little rough, and requires you to actually drive it -- I think that's the definition of a hot rod. It gets driven so don't expect perfection but this one is a good cruiser (been to Michigan and Minnesota in the last year). Items that are minor annoyances that I would fix over the winter if I were to keep the car: there is a oil seep from the oil pan gasket, the steering wheel isn't perfectly centered driving down the road (car is aligned - the steering column isn't however), and I don't like how the brake lines are ran under the car - I'd clean them up, I'm just fussy.

C7 Corvette turbo with 1,000 horsepower promised from Hennessey
Mon, 25 Feb 2013If you can't wait for the next-generation Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, Hennessey says they will have you covered. The Texas-based company has announced it will offer a spate of upgrades for the 2014 Corvette ranging from a range of bolt-on options all the way up to a 1,000-horsepower, twin-turbo system. Buyers can start with a cold air intake, cat-back exhaust or stainless steel long-tube headers, but Hennessey says it will also offer up three stages of forced induction mayhem should those bits and baubles not provide enough thrust.
Those choices start with a supercharger system good for up to 700 hp, though Hennessey will gladly ditch the blower in favor of two turbos. Doing so will spin the crank to the tune of 800 horsepower all the way up to a certifiably ludicrous 1,000 ponies. There's no word on how much these tricks will cost you - or when they will be available, as we're guessing they haven't gotten their hands on the car yet - but you can head over to the Hennessey site to drop them a line if you're curious.
2015 Chevy Tahoe gets Police Patrol Vehicle treatment
Thu, 07 Nov 2013That was fast. Mere days after showing a Police Concept based on the 2015 Tahoe at the SEMA Show, Chevrolet has announced that it will build a PPV model based on the SUV to do battle with the Ford Police Interceptor Utility (Explorer) and Dodge Durango Special Service.
You'll recall that the Tahoe has been police staple for several years, predating both the Explorer and Durango police variants, so the fact that the new model would spawn a police variant is hardly surprising. Like the civilian model, the 2015 PPV benefits from a more efficient 5.3-liter, direct-injection V8 that pumps out 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. It also features more high-strength steel, offering better crash protection, on top of optional safety items like lane departure warning, forward collision alert and a Safety Alert Seat.
The press release is rather light on police-specific items, aside from the auxiliary battery, which keeps the myriad of electronics in a modern police car running even when the engine isn't. Lightbars, 17-inch steel wheels on Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires and a push bar round out the mods for the Tahoe PPV. The cabin features a revised center console and room for laptop and other equipment mounts.
Junkyard Gem: 1986 Chevrolet Sprint Plus
Fri, Jun 16 2023General Motors sold second- and third-generation Suzuki Cultuses with Geo or Chevrolet Metro badging in the United States from 1989 through 2001 model years, and we've all seen plenty of those cars on the street over the years. The first-generation Cultus was sold here as well, with Chevrolet Sprint badges, and I've found a rare example of the Sprint five-door hatchback in a Northern California car graveyard. The Chevy Sprint first appeared on the West Coast as a 1985 model, then became available everywhere in the United States for the 1986 through 1988 model years (in Canada, it was sold as the Pontiac Firefly). It was available here as a hatchback with three or five doors; for 1986 only, the five-door was badged as the Sprint Plus. Soon enough, The General would be selling many more Asian-built cars with Detroit badges here. Isuzu I-Marks were sold as Chevrolet/Geo Spectrums starting in the 1986 model year, while Daewoo provided the Pontiac LeMans two years later. Under the hood, a 1.0-liter three-cylinder rated at 48 horsepower. The five-door Sprint cost $5,580 in 1986, which was $200 more than the three-door (those prices would be $15,445 and $14,891 in 2023 dollars). I've documented seven discarded Sprints prior to this one (including an extremely rare Turbo Sprint), and all of them were three-doors; we can assume that price was the most important factor for Sprint buyers. Gasoline prices were crashing hard during the middle 1980s, but memories of gas lines and odd-even-day fuel rationing from 1979 remained strong. What cars competed with the '86 Sprint on sticker price? Well, there was no way to undercut the hilariously affordable (and terrible) Yugo GV, which cost $3,990. The much bigger (but still pretty bad) Hyundai Excel listed at $4,995, while Toyota would sell you a sturdy (but zero-fun) Tercel starting at $5,448. Even the wretched Chevy Chevette — yes, it was still available in 1986 — cost $5,645. The original buyer of this car was willing to shell out an extra $395 to get an automatic instead of the base five-speed manual. That's about $1,093 in today's money. This car must have been slow. By the end, the doors were held shut with duct tape, but it still stayed alive until age 37. 53 miles per gallon on the highway! It does everything. The camels of the highway.
